Rockit Reports was launched at the end of 2012. I created the site to chronicle what I had discovered in the sex industry around the world. Although sex work is covered in all sorts of media the reporting is usually incomplete and sensationalized. There was and is little on the ground reporting on the real life workings of the commercial sex industry including places like blowjob bars that are as common as specialty coffee shops in some parts of the world yet unknown by the vast majority of the population.

When I started reporting on things like the widespread availability of sex in Hong Kong and red light districts like Seoul’s Hooker Hill back in 2012 I had no idea how far this site would develop. I thought that it might attract a few thousand visitors with an interest in the subject. It didn’t take long for me to realize the huge potential of the site however and within six months it was drawing tens of thousand of views.

At this point the site draws nearly a million views per month. People find their way here through all sort of avenues but search engines remain the main avenue. Along with the thousands of regular repeat readers hundreds of thousands more search for information on things like blowjob barbershops and the thoughts of porn stars and come up with this site.

Most of the people who visit Rockit Reports never leave a comment. Since many of those who do take the time out to leave their thoughts have positive and interesting things to say this is not really an issue. Some commenters have been leaving remarks for years and will hopefully continue to do so moving forward. At some point a few of them may even start creating content for this site. Only time will tell where this site will go but a few things are already in the works that should improve Rockit Reports in the coming weeks and months.

A new increased publishing schedule went into effect in December that will continue into the new year. The frequency of posts, reports and reviews has doubled and should stay that way for the foreseeable future. Although it can be tough to crank out such a high number of reviews when the goal is to keep the writing high quality and interesting this increased schedule is necessary to accommodate the large amount of information I have accumulated on places I have already reported on and allow for posts on thus far uncovered parts of the world to be made.

Some places have not been reported on here simply because I have not had the time to write about them. It can be difficult prioritize and work out a schedule when news keeps pouring in. The oily massage parlors of Bangkok alone could fuel an entire website! As time goes on things can change. The information I had on some other places was out of date. At the moment this isn’t a problem and it shouldn’t be one anytime soon now that posts are being made more frequently. Any new information I pick up in the meantime should also find its way to the pages of Rockit Reports to prevent a backlog from building up again.

Some annual traditions have already emerged in the short time since Rockit Reports first went online back in 2012. Today I report on interesting porn websites that are still worth shelling out money for in my view. This will be the third time I have compiled such a list. 1. Fantasy Massage – This website is in the same network as Massage-Parlor.com which appeared on my original list of porn worth paying for. As the name would suggest Fantasy Massage is a little more creative than that site and most other massage themed sites on the internet. Everything from lesbian nuru massage to pool side rub downs are covered and they’re always coming up with new stuff. A scene called “Mom’s Day Job” that was added to the site last month that is absolutely incredible. Best of all members can submit their own fantasies to the site. When selected these stories are be turned into actual scenes for all to enjoy.

Truth be told there is probably enough massage parlor content floating around on free tube websites to last a lifetime. Still a membership at Fantasy Massage is worth the money for the quality and amount of content produced along with the amount of imagination that goes into it. For a nominal fee members at Wow Girls get access to a regularly updated library that is expertly curated.

4. I Jerk Off 100 Strangers – The Clips4Sale site appeared on the first list of porn worth paying for published on this site. At the time I mentioned that it was full of interesting studios. The Mark’s Head Bobbers studio appeared on last year’s list. This studio is another standout that has gained some well deserved notoriety. Each episode on the site starts with two fighters brawling to see who will win the chance to have sex with a porn star. Both the combat and the sex takes place in the ring. Some say porn is dead. It could explain attempts to reach out into other more profitable industries but who knows. At the very least this site points to the innovative nature of porn producers in the United States. They’re not quite up to the level of their Japanese counterparts but if sites like Battlebang are any indication they could get there one day.

7. Bambulax – This site is similar to Toticos which appeared on my first list. Whereas Toticos is filmed by a guy living in the Dominican Republic, Bambulax is filmed by a guy in Africa. It is pretty rare to come across commercially filmed porn from Africa. The guy behind Bambulax operates and films on the same level as many amateurs but has put his work on a website in order to make some money. A 30 day subscription is only 3 Euros so I’m not sure how much he brings in. African Fuck Tour has more content but also charges a higher fee for membership.

8. Czech Streets – The theme of this website is real street pick ups in the Czech Republic that lead to sex. The sex is always filmed and often takes place in public places. Obviously women have to sign model releases and show ID to appear on a website like this so it is up to the viewer to decide how authentic Czech Streets is but in any event it does offer a good view of the Czech Republic which can be tough to find in adult film. On top of that membership at Czech Streets includes memberships for other interesting sites like Czech Experiment and Czech Harem.

Honorable mention goes to R18.com which is home to the largest and best organized library of Japanese porn on the internet. With countless new content being released in Japan every day it is great to finally have a site like R18 around to stay in the loop. I have also spent significant time viewing Legs Japan this year. The material on that site is uncensored and so expertly shot that it is hard to stay away.

Zenra is another site I discovered this year that I keep checking back on. It hosts heaps of high quality Japanese porn with subtitles in English to help viewers keep up with some of the interesting and at times nearly insane stuff that goes on.

Finally I should mention my one and only DVD purchase of the year which was a Japanese Soft on Demand release staring Mana Sakura with a title that translates to something like “High End Lingerie.” Although I rarely purchase or view discs of any kind anymore I simply couldn’t resist picking this up when I came across it in an adult store in Japan. I wasn’t disappointed and I have to admit it was almost fun to open up a package like this after years of being mostly digital. I have done a lot of interviews of people in the sex industry since Rockit Reports first went online several years ago. Although the interviews don’t draw the most comments they tend to be some of the most viewed posts on the website. In any event I enjoy doing interviews and some people at least enjoy reading them. It seems that many readers are interested to see what these people have to say even if they don’t have anything to say about the subjects discussed themselves.

I published several interviews last year including some with high profile porn stars in the United States and other countries. This year I hope to do many more interviews covering even more aspects of the industry. I may focus more on sex workers who deal directly with the general public though I will continue to publish conversations with people who work with cameras and screens.

Today I publish the first question and answer session of the new year. I was able to sit down with a woman on staff at Tokyo Style in Japan and ask her about her work and some aspects of her life. For reasons most people should be able to understand I won’t indicate exactly who it is I interviewed but I don’t think that takes away from this piece at all.

When I do an interview I always start off by asking for age and origin. So where are you from and how old are you?

I am twenty-seven. I’m from northern Japan.

Are you really twenty-seven? You look so much younger. People often say that to Asian women but I actually mean it. I would have guessed you were in your early twenties.

How did you get into this line of work?

Well… I wanted to gain real massage skills but I also wanted to make good money.

And how did you find your current job?

Google.

Wow! I guess you really can find anything with Google nowadays.

Yes. It was easy.

Why did you choose Tokyo Style over other companies?

They offered the best money and they work with foreigners. Personally I prefer foreigners to Japanese guys for customers. I also get to practice speaking English.

Do you have a boyfriend?

No. Because of my work. I don’t think guys would understand it or accept it.

It is interesting to hear you say that you prefer foreigners when so many adult shops in Japan forbid them. Would you date a Japanese guy?

Sure.

Would you date a foreigner?

I would date a foreigner too. I don’t care about that so much when it comes to dating. I worked a regular job abroad in an English-speaking country and I met a lot of great guys. I hope to go back some day.

Is this your first time working in the adult entertainment industry?

Yes it is.

So did you have to do any kind of training before you started?

Yes. I got a lesson in massage from one of the other women who has been working for a while. She showed me how to give massages and explained how the sessions should go.

Did she just explain things or did she show you?

She showed me. She massaged another one of the ladies like a customer. I watched and learned a lot. Now I have my own style.

Were you nervous the first time you had an appointment with a customer?

No not really. As I said I have known foreigners before. It was exciting. Not scary.

Does your family know about your work?

What is the best thing about doing this kind of work?

When customers say thank you after a session. I really feel like I did a good job and made them happy.

Years ago when Rockit Reports was still in its infancy I wrote a post on the ease of finding sex in Hong Kong. Although it was hardly my best work that post went on to become one of the most popular on the site.

I haven’t posted any additional reports on Hong Kong in the years since that post went online. Readers are clearly interested in the Special Administrative Region but my time and energy was sapped by all of the other things I had to write about. This year I plan to remedy the oversight by writing about various venues in Hong Kong along with posts on several other parts of the world.

In my view there is no better way to kick things off than to report on what is as far as I know the only blowjob bar in Hong Kong. While the place uses blowjob previews as a way to get customers excited and encourage them to take a lady out of the bar I think it can still accurately be described as a bj bar since pretty much any guy can walk in off the street and get oral service from a lady right on premises.

Dragon Club is one of several bars in the Wan Chai area of Hong Kong. With a long history of adult entertainment and generally questionable activities Wan Chai continues to be a hot spot mainly for cashed up foreigners. Although located in the heart of Hong Kong there are few if any Hong Kong women to be found. Filipinas make up the bulk of the staff at most bars and Dragon is no exception.

Dragon Club is situated on the edge of the main entertainment area but it is still easy to find. Located right next to Insiders Bar on Fenwick Street the bar is marked by a very large pink neon sign that displays the name of the place along with a picture of an actual dragon.

There is usually at least one guy posted outside of the entrance acting as some sort of security. They are generally amiable and welcoming to guys who decide to pass through the curtains and into the bar.

Once inside customers are confronted with a rather large stage that looks like it came right out of a strip club or Thai go go bar though things are a lot less lively at first glance. Customers seem to be few and far between most times though the place clearly generates money. It is highly unlikely that it would have been around for so long if it didn’t.

Most nights there are four or more Filipina dancers on staff dressed in a sexy set of lingerie. Generally speaking they tend to be quite attractive ladies in their early twenties who haven’t given birth to children. Although the staff rotates regularly it isn’t strange for at least half of the women working to be much better looking than the average gal dancing a go go bar in ” target=”_blank”>Angeles City or Manila.

The women don’t actually dance unless there are customers in the bar. This makes sense to me and apparently even to the rather rough Chinese mamasan who runs the place. There are bars in Angeles City where the women are required to dance even when there are no customers in the bar for hours on end. This has always seemed frankly ridiculous to me and I’m sure to the dancers too.

When customers enter the Dragon Club they are quickly greeted by the aforementioned mamasan who will ask them to order a drink. Rather than sit at one of the many stools surrounding the bar and stage however she directs customers to sit in one of two booths situated on either side of the entrance. The reason for this soon becomes apparent.

The wall is mirrored so that customers can see the stage even though are seated with their back facing the show. This allows them to view the dancers on stage while still being generally sheltered from the view of any people who happen to come into the bar making intimate action more easy to deliver.

After a customer takes a seat at one of the booths they are soon joined by one of the dancers. The dancers quickly get comfortable with the customers in the booths by cuddling up against them while the mamasan hoovers in the background asking if they’ll purchase a lady drink. The lady drinks are priced at an expensive 250 Hong Kong Dollars ($32.25 USD) each but the rates don’t seem so unreasonable considering what they include.

After a customer agrees to purchase a lady drink the dancer accompanying him will show her gratitude by giving him some oral action right in the booth. When dealing with new and unknown customers dancers may ask first ask if it is okay to touch then take out their units. When regulars visit the ladies usually get right down to business.

While none of can give the best deep throaters of the Bangkok blowjob bars a run for their money the dancers at Dragon are relatively skilled at sucking. This makes sense considering their line of work. Repetition is after all a major method of learning for most people.

The dancers are perhaps most skilled at keeping guys interested without taking them over the edge and sending them scurrying out the door with a sense of sudden guilt. Their usual method is to go back and forth between bobbing up and down and asking the usual questions like “where are you from?” With each drink purchased they perform for five or ten minutes. If they spend too much time asking questions and not enough polishing the pickle the mamasan can often be heard directing them to get back to work from another part of the room. This can be off putting though different people have their own views on the woman in charge. The dancers all seem to privately agree that “mam” is tough though they do seem interested in the work or at least the money that it provides.

When a lady drink starts to empty the mamasan returns almost magically with no shame at all. Sitting right down next to the blowing babe she asks customers to buy additional drinks or take a lady out of the bar for more intimate fun.

After a customer shells out for a second drink the offers for take out become stronger and are often joined by the sucker herself asking for the same. Rates can vary depending on the time and what the mama thinks she can get out of a guy but the average charge for a short time session in a nearby hotel seems to be 1500 Hong Kong Dollars ($193.50 USD). Good negotiators can get this down to 1000 Hong Kong Dollars ($129 USD) when the bar is not busy.

If these prices seem to be on the high side that is because they are. The same kinds of gals would likely go with customers for a lot less in the Philippines though Hong Kong is a different and more expensive place. There are often lots of places including the infamous Fuji Building nearby where guys can get a short time session for as little as 500 Hong Kong Dollars ($ USD) though that is a different sort of service.

Ultimately the rates are dictated by the market and what people will pay. Apparently there are enough people in Hong Kong willing to shell out close to two hundred American dollars for a few hours with a hot Filipina to keep the prices at that level. Considering how much money some foreign workers in Hong Kong make it isn’t that surprising.

Although the Dragon Club is basically a suck shop the women who work there usually do not finish customers off in the booths. Instead they use it as a way to score short time sessions outside of the bar. If and when a guy is allowed to finish in the bar it is only after an agreement is made with the mamasan for either a set fee or a certain amount of lady drinks.

Dragon Club is a rather interesting place. It is almost like the imaginary blowjob and strip club combo I wrote about in a previous post on ideal sex shops though of course reality doesn’t come close to the fantasy in this case. Things could be done a lot better though there may be unseen circumstances and regulations at play that prevent that from happening. On the other hand it could simply be an issue of management.

The mamasan at Dragon acts a lot like the stereotypical Chinese “dragon lady” and is not afraid to come right out and ask for what she wants. She does seem to be more bark than bite however and customers who are able to firmly assert themselves are able to deal with her even when her approach is on the abrasive side. On the bright side a call to pay the bill and leave is generally respected which is a step up from places where staff and management beg guys to stay for “just one more drink.”

Dragon Club is hardly the best place in the world or even in Hong Kong but it does stand out against a background of mostly boring bars nearby. It is unsurprising that many men put it on their short list of places to visit when visiting the area. I give it an average score of two-and-a-half stars.

There is no shortage of women at Universe Club but they’re not all a sure bet for a roll in the sack.

I continue to enjoy the Universe Club in Tokyo even though it doesn’t always lead to the kind of action that I like most. As I have mentioned in previous reports on Universe Club the company is set up to make matches between men and women about as easy and straight forward as possible.

Once guys go through the relatively painless interview procedure they have access to a vast database of women they can search through. They can narrow down the ladies by physical characteristics, interests and more. They can even avoid meeting up with a woman on her period thanks to precautions in place. Japan is famous for its innovations of convenience and that extends all the way to dating clubs like Universe.

All sorts of women sign up for the Universe Club. Every day office ladies are joined by amateur models and others. The interests and desires of the women are as varied as their backgrounds. Some are only looking for dinner dates while others are looking for a lot more. The Universe Club grades the female members to give men an idea of what the women are after.

I recently went on a date with a nice Japanese gal in her twenties who had a “C” grade on the Universe Club website. This means that she is up for getting more intimate after a date if the conditions are right. I knew I would be in Tokyo so I contacted the club to book the date. It was incredibly easy. The club contacted the gal and she agreed to the date and time I was looking for. They then helped me find a conveniently located restaurant near my hotel that was very well reviewed and they even made a reservation for me. This sort of service is more than worth the moderate fees the club charges in my opinion.

I arrived at the restaurant on time and my date was waiting for me in the booth. She looked above average in her photographs and very similar in person. While she might not turn heads on the busy street of Tokyo she was certainly attractive. The vast majority of guys would undoubtedly be more than happy to spend an evening in her company.

If I wanted to be picky I could say that her teeth had some slight damage and repair work that wasn’t visible in her otherwise accurate club photographs though this is rather common in Japan and frankly not that big of an issue for me. I note this only to help paint a picture. It certainly didn’t put me off of her at all.

The food was as great as can be expected in a town like Tokyo and the conversation moved along nicely even though the lady’s English skills weren’t much better than my poor Japanese skills. The language barrier wasn’t much of a barrier at all however especially since we both had smartphones with translation applications that made short work of any misunderstandings.

After making our way through the meal we spent quite a bit of time talking over drinks. Our time together went well over the three or four hours that a typical dinner date lasts which proves that the sort of general guidelines that exist in setups like these are never strict rules.

Since the gal had a C grade and we seemed to be getting along quite well I assumed that we would move on to a hotel to get a lot more intimate especially after she asked where my hotel was. As it turns out she had to leave so that she could catch a train home and get some rest before going to work in the morning.

In Japan most people don’t like to offend or confront anyone else so it is common to make up innocent excuses rather than rejecting anyone outright. An invitation for a date is more likely to be rejected with a “maybe” or “sorry but I am busy” than a flat out “no.” I realize that it is quite possible that my date may have made up a story to get out of going to the hotel with me though I actually believe her story. She is an office worker and she came straight from work to meet me. She also told me where she lives and it was quite far from the place we met. Finally she asked me to walk her to the train and we exchanged information so that we can meet again in the future.

The kind of wondering that a date like this presents can actually be fun. I know better than anyone that the straight forward point and shoot adult entertainment options have their place but there is also value in things like flirting and getting to know someone.

Setting up a date through Universe Club isn’t all that expensive considering what and where it is. Other than a setting fee and the price of the meal itself one only has to part with a gift of around 5,000 Yen ($43 USD) to cover the gal’s time and transportation when things go no further than a meal.

In this case I was introduced to a really great restaurant I would probably never have found on my own and I was able to enjoy my meal with a lovely Japanese lass who made it all more enjoyable. I would have liked to have gone further with her but I can honestly say that I wasn’t incredibly disappointed that things ended when they did. I had a good time and that’s what matters.

Although guys from around the world can meet women in Japan going at it alone is certainly tougher than working with a company like Universe Club especially if one lacks fluency in the local language. That and the rest of what I said above should explain why I continue to like the outfit even though as this write up shows scoring is not always a sure thing.

I plan to go on a date with a “D” graded woman in the near future. That indicates that she is very open to getting intimate after a dinner date and this should present better odds than meeting up with the lady mentioned above. Whatever happens I will report back here.

A lot of people say porn is dead though I think there is still plenty of porn worth paying for. What do you think? Have you seen any major changes since you entered the industry?

It’s hard to say as I’ve only been in the industry two years. But porn is definitely not dead. I think there is still a lot of money to be made in porn. I feel that if performers, producers, and fans united, they can keep this industry growing.

What kind of work did you dream of doing as a child?

Being an actress has always been my dream. That’s one reason I’ve been okay with being an adult actress. We all start somewhere. I still want to cross over and fulfill my dream.

What are your thoughts on Caitlyn Jenner‘s public transformation?

I think it was the perfect time to do it. It gave the transsexual community a new platform to be noticed. I also think she proved that you are never too old to live your dream and that no matter how much you try to suppress your true feelings, sooner or latter the truth will come out, and when it does, you will be much happier. Just look at old pictures of Caitlyn before her transition and look at her now. She was always meant to be this beautiful woman

What do you think about prostitution?

That’s a hard question to answer. I would for sure not want my daughter or my sister to resort to it for many reasons, but if they did, I would understand and wouldn’t judge them because I know from personal experience how hard life can get sometimes. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do to survive. I also believe a person is free to do what they please with their body. We all prostitute ourselves in some degree. We use our looks or flirt to get something in return. It happens in the office, restaurants, schools. People thinking “Maybe if I flirt with the manager and fuck him, he’ll give me a raise, a better position, or just some extra cash.”

What advice would you have for someone who wanted to get into porn?

Be 110 percent sure of your decision. Porn will change your life. Think about the good, the bad, and the maybes. Keep in mind if it’s hard for you to have a relation outside porn, it’ll be much harder if you do porn. Porn also can help you to love yourself more. It can teach you to be comfortable in your own skin. Also, get the crazy fantasies of leading a porno lifestyle out of your head: parties, drugs, unprotected sex… At least if you actually want to make it somewhere in this industry. Those things will just keep you distracted, and you’ll spend money instead of making it. Focus on making good content. Show up on time to your shoots, tell yourself you are not a diva, at least not yet, so don’t behave like one. You have to be professional just like in any business. Be nice to whoever you work with. And if there is something you don’t like, it’s okay to speak up and let the company, producer, actor etc. know what’s going on.

What advice would you have for a guy who is interested in transgender women?

If you think about it dating a TS could be like dating your feminine buddy.

In a recent post I wrote “there’s only so much that can be said about Pattaya Thailand’s infamous Soi 6.” Apparently the limit has not been reached. As long as I have interesting or notable things to write about I will keep on keeping on. Hopefully the readers will come along for the ride.

Red Point is probably one of the most well known bars on Soi 6 and there’s are good reasons for that. One is that it’s bigger than a lot of other bars. Another reason is that there are always rows of women sitting outside. You might say all bars on Soi 6 have women seated outside and you’d be right, but the women at Red Point tend to be a little more attractive on average.

Notice I write average. There are all sorts of women on staff and one man’s beauty is another man’s no thank you mam. In general most of the women that work at Red Point are fit and in their early to mid twenties. Quite a few have children but even many of those who do show no obvious signs of motherhood.

The women at Red Point Bar aren’t necessarily the friendliest bunch on the block but neither are they all cold and distant. It’s always tough to characterize an entire staff and even if it could be done precisely it wouldn’t tell the whole story. Surely the women working Soi 6 are generally all about their money. That goes for any job in the world. There are always gems to be found and genuine intimate moments can be fished out at times by those who desire them.

Soi 6 is known most for its straight shooting atmosphere. Everyone knows what’s going down and there are no need for lies about love and relationships. If a guy has the money he can get some honey. The women who work at Red Point Bar epitomize what the place is all about. Some may find this to their liking while others will not. There’s a place and time for everything I guess.

The large bar area on the ground floor of Red Point is dark but well kept. It’s usually empty except for one or two punters there to share a drink with a gal before or after a session. One could certainly show up to have a drink and nothing more but that would be missing the point.

Customers can select one of the women sitting outside to join them inside or they can take whoever is next in line. Then they can purchase a drink for themselves and if they’d like a 100 Baht (around $3 US) lady drink for their new partner. If they’d like to go a little further they can indicate this to their gal of the hour and then move on to one of the rooms upstairs. Guys who don’t want to stop for a drink before moving upstairs are under no obligation to do so. They can simply find one of the women downstairs and ask them if they would join them upstairs.

There was a time when the fees on Soi 6 were basically set. In recent years 1000 Baht ($31 US) got a guy a barfine, a room for an hour and and hour of a service provider’s time. The barfine remains the same at most places but Red Point has raised it to 350 Baht. Women on Soi 6 are now asking for various prices depending on any number of factors. At some of the older establishments the 1000 Baht all inclusive price is still standard. At places like Red Point it’s not.

At Red Point and a few other nearby venues women now often ask for 1000 Baht. Added to the 350 Baht given to the bar this brings the grand total to 1350 Baht ($42 USD). This rise is prices is unavoidable and it’s obviously still within reason but it is worth noting. Regular customers, guys who go way back and those willing to haggle may be able to get the prices down a bit. Whether or not that’s something that should be done is a debate for another time. The barfine is not up for discussion.

Payment for drinks and barfine at Red Point is usually asked for up front but regular or trusted customers can pay on the way out. The women are typically given their money after the fun is over.

Possibly the best thing about Red Point bar is that their rooms are very nice for the area. This doesn’t mean that they are 5 star suites suitable for dignitaries but they are a huge step above most other short time quarters on the street. The rooms are large, clean, well decorated and well kept. The bathrooms could fit in any quality hotel without anyone blinking an eye.

Service provided at Red Point is typically good. There will always be exceptions but most of the gals know how to get the job done. It’s not the kind of place where a “girlfriend experience” is common but it’s not a hole in the wall pump and dump either. Like I said, the women know their job and are willing to work it. Rumor has it that a higher than normal number of women at working at Red Point also provide A level service though this may come at a premium.

Once the deed is done things can go where they will. In most cases this means the punter heads back out the door and the gal heads back to the front to rejoin the line up and find another customer. This is the world of Soi 6.

With a nice bar area, large and skilled staff, and large clean rooms, Red Point Bar is a cut above the average Soi 6 short time shack. Because of that I give it an above average score of three stars. If they stuck to the 300 Baht barfine I would probably have given them another half star but maybe I’m just living in the past.

Agentur Liberty is a discreet bordello operating in the heart of Berlin. Since brothels are legal in Germany the businesses has no need to hide from law enforcement but it most likely chose its home out of a combination of practicality and respect for people in the area.

Liberty is tucked away inside a residential type of building but isn’t too difficult to find since it is located on a major road. Customers pass a store selling porn movies and related items before coming to the discrete entrance marked with the street number 14. There they ring a bell marked “Liberty.” After they are buzzed in they head up a flight of stairs and ring another bell next to a golden plague that is also marked “Liberty.”

A rotund and jovial middle aged German woman seems to be in charge of things most times. She typically opens the doors and invites customers inside. Her standard language is German but she can switch to passable English on request. First time customers receive a brief rundown when they enter Liberty before being led to a selection room. Repeat customers are led directly there without any need for explanation.

The selection room looks a lot like what one might imagine if they picture a high end brothel from the prewar period. The room is nicely decorated with classy furniture including a seat where customers sit and wait for a lineup of the available women to form. There are even crystal bowls full of candy.

When the women are ready the manager starts the introductory sessions. Through this process each woman on staff opens the door, introduces herself and then leaves. Things are fast paced and as many as a dozen scantily clad gals can come into the room and then go back out again in a matter of a minute or two so customers need to stay sharp if they want to remember the name of any ladies that strikes their fancy.

All sorts of different women work at Liberty. Most come from Europe. A good number hail from Germany. Ladies from other parts of the world also appear though appearances can be deceiving. At least one woman who works at Liberty was born and raised in Germany to Thai parents. All can speak at least basic English. Many are fluent or nearly fluent in the language.

The ages of the gals at Liberty range from twenty up to over thirty though most seem to be in their twenties. Most are fit and at least of average attractiveness. There are also a few real classical beauties along with some rather large ladies. While a few are permanent professionals the place sees its share of part timers trying to make extra money before or after other jobs or university studies. The lineup changes from one day to the next with some ladies on staff working as little as once a week.

Introductions are basically displays where nothing but superficial looks can be seen. The only way for customers to find out anything about the women on staff beyond the fake names they use is to go through the model profiles on the Liberty website or spend time with the women in a private room.

At the conclusion of introductory sessions customers are rejoined by the manager. At this point they can give the name of whichever lady they would like to spend private time with. Unlike the lineups at Macau saunas women at Liberty wait outside of sight and sound of the customers so there is no pressure for clients to select a particular person or indeed anyone an all.

Once customers select a lady from the line they chose an amount of time for their session. The most common session lasts thirty minutes and costs 60 Euros ($66 USD) but other sessions are available at the similar pricing scheme. Twenty minute sessions cost 40 Euros, sixty minute sessions cost 120 Euros and so on. Payment is made to the manager up front though customers who want to extend sessions after they are in the room give extra payment to their service providers who in turn hand it over to the management.

After payment is made customers are led to private rooms. The standard rooms are large and luxurious. Although they have an antique look they are well preserved and include modern conveniences like climate control. A slightly more expensive pool suite which is available by the hour is even nicer.

Customers don’t need to wait long in the private rooms before their selected service providers arrive and start the clock. In any place with a large number of women performance will vary greatly but most of the gals at Liberty seem to know what they are doing. Most are also open to suggestion.

A session typically includes oral sex and intercourse. Most women use condoms for the oral sex. A few do not. Customers who want to participate in additional activities like kissing or finishing on a woman’s body or in her mouth normally have to pay more. Some providers offer services like anal and even things approaching BDSM. Rates are generally very reasonable and customers can discuss them with service providers beforehand.

Agentur Liberty is a well run business located in a large private space. The interior looks great and kept clean. The manager is friendly and accommodating. Several skilled women of different ages and backgrounds are on staff at all times and willing to work to make some money. Because of all these factors it is hard to find fault with the place.

Things do need to be taken into consideration though. If a legal brothel like this was located in some sexual desert like the middle of Idaho it would certainly stand out like a shining star. In a place like Germany where sex work is legal and abundant is but one of many similar businesses. Still it is a good model of what private brothels can be like. I give it three-and-a-half stars.

A place of prayer with a side of prostitution.

De Wallen is without a doubt the best known red light district in Amsterdam and probably even the world. When people talk about legalized prostitution in the Netherlands they are often referring to the numerous glass window rooms located in De Wallen that have become ingrained in the public consciousness. Many don’t even know that much more exists in the country in the way of sex work and services. I have been meaning to report on De Wallen for some time but the rest of the world got in the way. Better late than never.

Although the red light district is right out in the open in the heart of Holland’s capital city, De Wallen is probably not the easiest place for a person unfamiliar with the area to find. The area that makes up the De Wallen red light district surrounds the famous De Oude Kerk (the old church) and is bordered by Warmoestraat to the West and Geldersekade and Klobeniersburgwal to the East. This area is located inside of a ring of canals and isn’t really marked off in any way. Unlike well known go go bar areas like Walking Street in Pattaya or Fields Avenue in Angeles City, there is no large gate welcoming visitors to De Wallen. This makes sense since the district isn’t an isolated area. Sex workers work out of rooms that are intertwined with all sorts of other businesses as well as family homes. Things can be so tightly grouped together than some private residences have taken to putting up signs outside that say things like “private home” and “please don’t vomit or urinate here.” Some of those signs are professionally made which always makes me wonder where such things can be purchased but that’s something to be researched another time. This interactive map of De Wallen red light district is probably the best available.

Through word of mouth and local and international tourist campaigns De Wallen has become a major tourist attraction in Amsterdam. In fact it may be the largest in the city if the throngs of people walking around every day are any indication. Couples stroll hand in hand down alleys lined with illuminated windows filled with half naked women offering sex for money. Somehow this feels natural in Amsterdam even though organized tours of Chinese and Korean people gawking at scantly clad dancers on Pattaya’s Walking Street does not. Perhaps the level of public acceptance and mix houses, sex museums and marijuana selling “coffee shops” in De Wallen has something to do with that. Perhaps the rules against people taking pictures of the women in De Wallen windows does too. In any events crowds are never really alluring when one is shopping for sex even if they do seem like they belong there.

Large numbers of tourists often attract unscrupulous people. That is true in De Wallen as much as it is anywhere else in the world. While the streets that make up the area aren’t nearly as off the wall as New York’s Times Square in the 1970’s there are some people around trying to rip off unsuspecting people who don’t know to avoid them. Those who are aware enough to avoid those kinds of creeps generally have no problems but even they have to deal with unruly groups of drunken people from time to time.

Tourism also brings changes. Although the red light district is the area’s claim to fame moves have been made to dismantle or at least limit it. A few years ago over fifty windows were closed. The city purchased them and many ended up being transformed into high fashion clothing shops and things of that nature. “Come for the hookers stay for the hot trends” may pop up tourist brochures at some point but for now there are still close to 300 windows in operation.

The history of the area is quite interesting. In the past things worked as they do today in some parts of Asia with sex workers plying their trade out of hair salons, massage parlors and gambling centers. Brothels and pimps were outlawed at one point but the sale of sex was not. At some point a health check system was enacted that required working women to produce a card showing they were free of disease. Eventually it all led to the current situation in which women work individually out of small rooms with large windows facing the street where they can advertise.

The Museum of Prostitution in De Wallen does a good job of telling the story. Because of that it is nice for a single visit but it doesn’t have much repeat value. The numerous clubs advertising sex shows and the like aren’t even worth a first look. Prices tend toward the outrageous and the shows are never what they are cracked up to be. Adventurous people will probably always continue to enter these places though and that will keep them in business. The clubs have so much new blood to feed on every day that don’t need to worry about forming a regular customer base and that is reflected in the quality of their offerings.

Although there is so much around the women in the windows are still the center of attraction. Some ladies start working in the afternoon but the area really comes alive at night. EU citizenship or residency is required to work in De Wallen but women from all over the world ply their trade there. The last estimate I read said that at least sixty percent of the women working the window came from outside of the Netherlands. That seems to be true. Most of the women working in De Wallen hail from Eastern Europe. Ladies from other parts of Europe along with Asia, Africa and Latin America are also represented along with a fairly large number of transsexual women.

Customers who see a woman they like approach the window she works in. The woman will then open the door to allow for negotiations. Sex in De Wallen is purely a business transaction and most of the women who work there want to get the most money they can for the least amount of effort. If a customer negotiates twenty minutes of sex for 50 Euros ($55 USD) he will most likely get exactly what they said which is quick sex in one position and nothing more. Customers who want to change positions or receive oral sex normally need to say it up front. If they ask for it when in the room they may be asked for more money. Things like kissing are considered extras and usually require more money as well. Every activity is covered. Condoms are used for intercourse and oral sex as one might expect but they are also used in ways which could surprise unwitting customers. An example of that would be a sex worker rolling a condom over a customer’s finger if he shells out money for the privilege of manipulating her vagina by hand.

Sexual services are provided in small rooms attached to the window displays. Curtains are drawn so that no one on the street can see what is going on inside. The rooms are usually comfortable enough considering the environment though they are certainly nothing like a five or even three star hotel.

In any place with independent working women prices can vary. Each lady is free to set her prices as she sees fit and depending on looks, negotiation skills or anything else one guy can be charged more or less than another guy even by the same woman. The average price for a quick sex session with oral in De Wallen is around 50 Euros but anything is possible. For whatever reason black workers often charge less than their counterparts.

More than a few punters have complained that the women that work in De Wallen windows are hardened. I don’t see how it could be otherwise in the conditions. While I am obviously for the decriminalization of prostitution I think there are much better models than window districts that double as tourist attractions and drug selling districts. At least people in the Netherlands have the ability to argue for different arrangements if they so please. In much of the world the sale of sex is unfortunately still illegal which creates some truly disastrous results.

Thien Phu is a barber shop set up offering special massages in the capital city of Vietnam. Thien Phu is located on Nguyen Phi Khanh street in District 1 and would be easy to miss for anyone not knowing what to look for. The street itself looks almost empty and the doors to many places are actually pushed back from the street so that customers have to walk in from the street before they even get to the front. Thien Phu is the first hot toc on the left when entering the street from the intersection with Dinh Tien Hoang.

There is some signage out front that indicates that the place is a barbershop and also includes the name though it doesn’t necessarily stand out. There is also usually a security guard either sitting out front or further in near the door who opens the way for any customers coming in.

Once inside customers are confronted with a rather large space containing a desk and a series of couches and chairs. The women on staff spend their time in their chairs chatting and playing with their phones as they wait for customers to arrive. There are anywhere from a dozen to two dozen women working at any time and they range in looks though most would probably be described as attractive by most men. The uniform is a nice looking red dress that accents the women nicely without being too revealing.

There may be some sort of menu of services available but most customers will probably never see it. That’s especially true if they cannot speak the local language. Instead they’ll be escorted by one of the available women up the stair case in the middle of the place and into a more private area upstairs. Customers are free to chose a lady of their liking or a regular but they if they don’t they will simply get whoever is next in line.

Neither the women on staff, the security guard or the front desk worker can speak much English if indeed they can speak any at all. There may be some individual exceptions but it is certainly not the norm. Luckily there isn’t much conversation needed at a barbershop when one isn’t getting their hair cut into the latest look.

The booths upstairs are large and open. They are bigger than most others one would find at a similar place in Vietnam or anywhere else. The booths are relatively private even though the walls don’t go all the way up and it’s quite easy to hear noise from the surrounding areas. On one side of each booth there is a massage table with a hair washing sink located at the head of it which is a little similar to the set up at Dr BJ’s in Bangkok though truth be told this place may be nicer even if that isn’t saying too much. The sinks are used to wash up as one might expect along with the usual wet wipes that are perhaps a little more common elsewhere.

As I often say places with numerous women on staff can vary greatly in their level of expertise. It’s difficult to rate the services of a group of women that can even change from time to time or hour to hour. What I can say is that the women working generally know what they are doing. While there are some that may be a bit lackadaisical there are others who go out of their way to make sure the customer leaves satisfied. Of course full service is never provided as those familiar with the scene would know but the normal mouth services can at times get creative.

As far as I know there is no set time limit at this place or any of the places like it but everything has to be done in a reasonable period. That is probably no problem for experts who put in time to practice their craft. After things are all done customers are led back down the stairs by their new friend and to the front desk where they can pay for services rendered.

I remember a time only a few years ago when services at these sorts of places went for a total of 200,000 Dong (at the time around $10.50 USD) with half going to the house and the other half going to the staff. Around 2011 or so many places started to up the total to 400,000. Even more recently the asking rate seems to have been upped to 500,000 ($23 USD) though this makes sense to some degree since the dollar continues to strengthen against the local currency. Of course there are still many places around that charge less such as the many places where locals pay as little as 220,000 total though they are more difficult for visitors to find. Natives to the city and people otherwise able to speak the language well can still get services for much less even in the places that ask new faces for 500,000 all in. At this point the prices only matter so much as even at the high end they are well within reason.

As a decent place with a good staff that in general knows how to do their work their isn’t much negative to say about Thien Phu. Taking everything into consideration I think it would be fair to give the place a solid three-and-a-half stars.

Since Rockit Reports went online years ago reporting on the commercial sex scene in China has been limited to the Special Administrative Regions of Macau and Hong Kong. In both of those place prostitution is legal at least to some degree.

While I have had some information on mainland China for years I have not reported on it here. One reason was that things can change from one day to the next and I am not well informed on the happenings there.

The main reason though was a fear that any reporting done on this website could contribute to repression against the women working in the industry since the sale of sex and related services remain illegal in China.

It’s difficult to know whether or not my fears were reasonable but the fact that the once vibrant and extensive sauna scene in southern China was decimated by raids not long ago shows what is possible. I don’t know know if the powers that be would be more likely to come down on a place reported on in the English language but it seems like a real possibility.

Another thing to consider is the possibility of a block being put on Rockit Reports from certain areas if someone with power doesn’t like what’s written here. Although the Rockit Reports site has been censored in South Korea it remains accessible in mainland China even though the world’s largest search engine is not.

In any event there are plenty of English language sources reporting on adult entertainment venues in China today. The most popular seem to be discussion forums including some based in places like Singapore and Hong Kong but there are even some full websites that not only list

Since these websites have been around for a while with plenty of interaction it seems that it would be okay to at least report on some of the more public places that openly advertise their services. Today I begin my reporting on China with a review of the Red House Sauna in Shanghai.

Showing that even large establishments with solid history must deal with the threat of repression customers are supposed to contact the manager of the place through the popular WeChat smartphone application to get directions to the place and instructions to enter.

The manager replies to requests over WeChat with information in English along with accompanying photographs though the information is also available online for those who care to search it out.

Red House Sauna is located inside of a large commercial building at 333 Zhaojiabing Road which is at the intersection with Xiaomuqiao Road. A small blue sign on the exterior wall marks the building which contains a bank on the side of Xiaomuqiao Road and a main entrance on the Zhaojiabing Road side.

The management at Red House seems to prefer that foreigners send a message before coming to schedule a loose appointment time though they do accept people who just show up as well. Asking for advance notice may seem strange but it makes sense for all parties involved as the club operates in the margins. In December it closed for a few days apparently after receiving a warning through the grapevine that it might receive a visit from some unwanted guests.

Whether or not customers send a message before showing up they must still seek out entrance when they arrive at the building. For foreigners this means approaching the plainly clothed security guard who hangs around in the lobby and saying “sauna” or “Jimmy” which is supposedly the name of an English speaking manager but more likely a sort of code word that all staff members understand.

Once the security guard is notified he will call to the management on a walkie talkie and say “Jimmy” along with some other things in Chinese. He will also point out the door which leads to the entrance of Red House Sauna.

Customers who pass through these doors are confronted with a white stairway that looks like something out of a horror movie with walls marked with what one hopes is smeared red paint. This stairway leads to a grey metal door with a very small sign. Next to the door is a bell but the management usually has the door open before the customer even arrives thanks to the notification given by the security guard in the lobby.

Foreign customers who enter are greeted by a manager who asks if the can speak Chinese. If the answer is no the managers rely on a translation application in their phone to communicate.

Entering the actual facilities requires following the manager through some halls into a locker room that looks a lot like a run down version of the changing rooms at Macau saunas. Customers put their clothes and other possessions other than a phone into a locker and given a pair of short shorts and a big shirt to wear that in my opinion is better than the robes given at better places since it doesn’t have to be tied. Customers are also given a pair of blue slippers and a wrist band that holds the key to their lockers and numbers that allow the sauna to track their purchases.

After putting on the sauna gear customers are asked if they have booked a specific lady before visiting. Red House maintains pictures and lists of women on staff so that customers can book appointments ahead. Some women are apparently so busy that customers who do not book them in advance will never even know they exist.

Customers who book ahead are taken to a private room where their lady of the hour will meet them. Other are led by a manager through a series of elaborately twisting hallways past countless young Chinese guys in black Adidas training jackets to a main display room where the various women working at the place assemble to great customers. Most customers at Red House are Chinese but surprisingly they seem to pay little attention to foreign customers. Additionally the hallway traffic is well managed so that customers rarely cross paths.

The display room at Red House Sauna looks like a miniature disco. The long room is lined with mirrors and has a slightly elevated floor. The women form a “U” shape around the walls of the room with very large signs pinned to their clothes indicating their identification numbers and classification.

The number of women working at Red House at any given time is pretty amazing even considering that Shanghai is such a large city. The line up usually consists of at least three dozen women and sometimes even more. The women who hail from all over China and in some cases the world are mostly attractive with a few extreme beauties and some who would be on the lower end of most scales. They wear sexy dresses or lingerie depending on their classification and all have their hair and makeup done up.

During any line up a few of the women will smile and a few will look indifferent but all seem open and willing even for foreign customers. Ultimately the name of the game is making money and all the ladies who work at Red House appear to be totally up for it.

The line up is so long that it can be difficult to customers to get a good look at all the women. While there are no binoculars on hand as is the case at Darling 1 in Macau customers are invited to enter the room and inspect the women up close though it’s easy to see how that could be a little awkward or uncomfortable even for a hardened veteran of the sex industry.

After a customer selects a lady by approaching her and asking for her hand she will lead him to one of many private rooms that look like worn down versions of the quarters at Emperor in Macau. Each room has a small bed covered in red pleather and a shower room with a similar bed. There are also small televisions in each room but these are rarely put to use.

Because the beds in the shower rooms have gathered some black mold spots with use they are covered with clear plastic sheeting which shows some concern for customer well being even though replacing the beds would obviously be a better choice.

The routines in the private rooms are pretty much as they are in any similar establishment in Asia though there is always some level of variation between individual providers. Typically the customer disrobes and relaxes on the bed while the lady prepares the room and shower. The customer then lays on the shower bed where he is washed from and back. That is followed by a body to body nuru style* massage with the woman sliding her soaped up nude body against the customer’s front and back. All parts of the body are cleaned including the most intimate of areas including the anus which is understandable considering the activities that follow.

After showering and sliding around the customer is rinsed and dried then sent to the bed again to wait while the provider cleans herself off. When the provider comes to the bed she performs a perfunctory massage on the customer then puts him on all fours and licks his crack before turning him over for some bare oral action followed by a covered full service finish.

While all women are different there do seem to be some trends at Red House that differ from other places. One example is that providers at the sauna tend to clean intimate areas of customers with a mix of soap and minty toothpaste. Another practice is to spray down the most intimate areas of customers with some sort of cleaner that is hopefully not Windex before giving them a little tongue service. Most also do the hot and cold water oral routine though that can also be found in other Chinese saunas throughout Asia.

There is always some degree of mechanical performance in any place where women see multiple customers and go through the same routine each time though the gals on staff at Red House seem to put in real effort. Some put on performances that could please the pickiest of guys. None seem to be miserable or unhappy with their work and most have a positive attitude and see their work as a stepping stone toward something else.

After finishing with full service customers can spend the remainder of their time hanging around with their provider. Lounging around or chatting at normal practices during that down time. Those who hope to rely on translation applications on their phones to facilitate communication may be out of luck since wireless reception is poor in the depths of the sauna where the real action takes place.

After the time period for a full service session is up a phone on the wall rings. The provider answers it and then hands the phone to the customer who will be asked if everything is okay. If he says yes the session will end and the provider will lead the customer by then hand back through the labyrinth of halls and back into the changing room.

Theoretically customers could stop off for other services like food or perhaps “real” massages but it might be tough for someone with no Chinese skills to navigate. Unlike the Macau and German sex saunas the atmosphere isn’t lounge-like at all.

A manager waits in the changing room and helps open lockers which require a customer key and a manager key to open. After customers get dressed they are led to a slightly disheveled lobby where they can settle their tab with cash or credit. All major currencies are accepted for cash payments though Chinese money gives the most value. UnionPay is the only credit card the establishment accepts.

The prices at Red House are reasonable considering the city and the circumstances the place operates under. Customers who contact the place by WeChat and ask for Jimmy are also given discounts.

Customers who arrange their sessions by getting in tough with Jimmy pay 750¥ ($114 USD) for a 70 minute session with a “normal” B girl. This includes multiple pops but no shower service. Shower service with a B girl is an additional 100¥.

The charge for an 80 minute session with a “model” A lady costs 998¥ ($152 USD) and includes shower service. For some reason customers are sometimes only charged 950¥ for this service. Any woman who has had plastic surgery and a small backside seems to be classified as an “A” model at Red House.

A 80 minute session including shower service with a “medium” M lady costs 1398¥ ($213 USD) and a 60 minute session with a “top model” T woman that includes two pops runs 1598¥ ($243 USD).

Sixty minute one shot no shower sessions with western “W” women are most expensive of all at 1698¥ ($259 USD) though western women are either rare at Red House or booked so often that they almost never appear in the display room.

As a medium range sauna with worn facilities but a large staff a place like Red House sauna wouldn’t stand out in a place like Macau or even Kuala Lumpur. But in Shanghai it does especially since it goes out of its way to accommodate foreigners even when they don’t know a single word in the local language. I give it an above average score of three-and-a-half stars.

Thai Leisurely Life (泰悠活) is a Thai themed massage parlor in Taipei. I call it Thai themed rather than a Thai massage parlor because no Thai women work there and as far as I know no genuine Thai massage is offered either. This seems to be a popular model in Taiwan as there are several similar shops including the previously reviewed Thai Happiness nearby.

The Thai Leisurely Life parlor is easy to find. It is located on Minquan East Road which is a main thoroughfare. It has clear signs on the exterior and it stays open well into the night. Since most of the shops around it close earlier the illuminated store front can stand out against the backdrop.

The shop is nice and clean inside. The lobby on the ground floor is open and spacious considering the location and there is a main desk where a cashier sits at all times. While the cashier may only be able to manage a little in the way of English conversation she is perfectly able to point out the price of massages on a printed sheet. As with most massage parlors there are several options available but the most common would probably be a one hour oil massage for 1000 New Taiwan Dollars ($31 USD) which is standard for the area. Two hour oil massages are also available at the discounted rate of 1500 New Taiwan Dollars ($47 USD).

After customers pay the fee for the service of their choosing they take off their shoes and slide on a provided pair of slippers that are quite small. With their tiny indoor footwear adorned they then head up the stairs and into one of several massage rooms that line the hall. The rooms are nice enough. They are of average size and kept clean. Professional massage tables sit in the middle of each room and all the standards like a hook to hang clothes are also there. The doors have small windows in them with one way glass. This seems to be a safety feature more than anything else. The walls around each massage room go all the way up to the ceiling but a lack of music and the way the building was put together mean that customers can sometimes hear noise from other massage rooms especially when a particular customer has a loud voices or laughs a lot.

There are several women working as masseuses at Thai Leisurely Life. They all seem to hail from the Chinese mainland. Most are in their thirties and of average looks. Most are also unable to speak much of any English. It’s clear by their ability to do rub downs that they all either went through some sort of massage training or gained a lot of experience through practical work.

Customers are assigned whichever woman on the roster is next in line though I’m sure repeat clients could request a favorite masseuse by name. Once in the room each customer is given the option of showering in a shower stall down the hall. If they want to take up this offer they must strip down in the massage room then wrap themselves in a provided towel and head down the hall. After they finish and dry off they can head back to the room where they will put on a tiny pair of disposable black paper panties and wait to be rejoined by their masseuse.

Oil massages are pretty much the same everywhere in the world. There is always some variation between individual masseuses but the general process involves the customer laying down and receiving a massage from oil covered hands. If there is anything different at Thai Leisurely Life is would be that things tend a little more toward the healing hands style of massage than a cheap place staffed by underpaid disinterested women working around some tourist trap in Southeast Asia. The women working at this place actually want their clients to feel better when they leave.

People may have various ideas of what being made to feel better requires. In the minds of many people a massage can’t leave a man fully refreshed unless it involves the entire body. Many Chinese masseuses throughout Asia understand this and thus put in the extra to effort to make sure the massage ends happy. The women at Thai Leisurely Life seem to fit into that category.

About half way through oil massage services customers are asked to turn over so that the masseuse can work on the front side of their bodies. It is at or around this point that offers for hand service are usually extended to male clients who seem to be up for it. Those who accept are treated to expert service by experienced fingers and palms. This is followed by a quick clean up and then a more thorough hot towel rub down. After the massage finishes customers can shower again or simply put their clothes back on and head downstairs.

Tips aren’t normally discussed at Thai Leisurely Life. Satisfied customers are free to give their masseuses whatever they think is appropriate after they receive their service but a gift of around 1000 New Taiwanese Dollars seems to be about average and generally goes over very well.

Thai Leisurely Life is a lot like Thai Happiness which I reviewed here several months ago. Both offer nice massages that end on happy notes in the middle of Taiwan’s capital city. Both are clean and staff but cheerful ladies who know how to do a rub down and aim to make their customers feel good. While a person may prefer one shop over the other the objective observer would probably consider them about equal. It is only fair then that Thai Leisurely Life receive the same average two-and-a-half star score as Thai Happiness.

About a year-and-a-half ago I published a report on the sale of sex in Manila’s P Burgos Street. Things can change quickly especially when the atmosphere takes a hostile tone. Room has to be made for new reports and coverage of new areas but in my view there is value to updated reports that are rooted in real life. The following is presented with that in mind.

Since there haven’t been any major crackdowns that I know of in some time the action on P Burgos Street continues to keep pace as it has for years. There was apparently a quick raid on street workers in late 2014 but things got back to normal soon after.

Countless dozens of women and ladyboys continue work the street from the Oxford Suites Best Western Hotel down to the corner with Makati Avenue near the Jollibee restaurant. While some of these women are properly trained masseuses who want to attract clients to their shops nearby more are basically street walkers in uniform. The latter ladies travel to customer’s quarters and perform perfunctory massages for 500 Pesos ($11 USD) though they are looking for more. Many provide extra services to clients who request up to and including full service. Quoted prices for these services may start as high as several thousand pesos but the usual going rate in the area is around 1000 Pesos ($22 USD). Most of the real rub down girls are happy to perform similar acts for extra money in customer hotel rooms though action is limited or not allowed at all in the massage parlors they work in.

The bars that line P Burgos Street still function as they always have and remain the main draw in the area. While there are a few restaurants like the American diner themed Filling Station and some hookah bars that bring in their share of people it is hard to imagine that the street would get any real foot traffic if the go gos went the way of the dodos.

Rouges continues to be one of the cheapest bars on the street. Drink prices are among the best on the strip and the ladies who work the bar don’t expect huge sums of money to spend time with customers. Bar fines are probably the lowest on P Burgos at 1,600 Pesos ($35 USD). On the other hand the place is dark inside and illuminated with ultraviolet lights that make it hard for people to see each other. Since so many moms work the place I imagine the conditions lead to a lot of surprises outside. The low drink prices and free flowing atmosphere also attract a lot of people which can quickly crowd the place out and the bar seems to be a magnet for guys who get drunk and act like utter maniacs.

Plan B continues to have a large staff of women that includes some of the better looking lasses on the street. It has been that way since it opened a few years ago. The bar has a good layout but it opens late and has some of the highest rates around. A can of Coca Cola runs a whopping 200 Pesos ($4.50 USD) and lady drinks are of course much more. Bar fines run into the thousands of pesos and the women who work the place expect a payment at least equal to that to spend time with a customer outside of the place. There are also a large number of older less attractive bar hustlers roaming around the bar in full dresses trying to bilk guys out of their cash through games like Connect Four or simple passive aggressive pressure.

Kojax around on Badajos Street is owned by the same people. It is also a newer bar with an interesting layout that is staffed by plenty of attractive dancing girls. Prices are just as high at Kojax as they are at Plan B. There are no aged bar hustlers around but waitresses take up their task and push customers to buy drinks for ladies at the bar. Signs saying the place is in a three month soft opening phase have been up for over a year and are now joined by other signs warning people of 1000 Pesos “consumption taxes” for breaking house rules.

High Heels further up the street is still in business though it never seems to attract to many customers. The place staffs a decent number of twenty-something dancing girls who wear bikinis along with several mostly older gals in full dress who work the floor. Drink prices are normal for the area but bar fines are 3,600 Pesos ($77 USD). Women of course expect several thousand more pesos to be given to them by any guy they join outside of the bar. Bar fines can be negotiated with the management by customers who purchase lots of drinks or take more than one lady out of the place. A VIP room in the back requires customers to pay a bar fine too though it allows action to take place right on premises which most women working the place seem willing to provide for a tip of around 2000 Pesos ($43 USD).

Tickles is a small bar that usually has a two or three women working at any given time. It has been open for years and continues to maintain the same level of service. There are few to no unattractive or overweight women on staff. There are usually several good looking ladies on the stage at any given time and most if not all are keen to see customers outside. Drink prices are normal. Lady drinks cost a little more but are still priced within reason although a roaming mamasan likes to take walk around and take gulps of various glasses to keep the transactions coming. Customers must pay an early work release rate of 3,500 Pesos ($75 USD) if they want to leave with a woman on staff. The women expect an additional gift of 2,500 to 4,000 Pesos from customers who take them back to a room or the short time hotel next door.

Wow Wow Wow has been around for ages and has kept prices pretty reasonable though the place seems like it may have gone through a little shakeup recently. The staff is small and mainly made up of average looking women. The only thing that sets the bar apart is that the ladies wear fishnet shirts that don’t leave much to the imagination. Unfortunately the place is managed by a guy who rules with an iron hand and that seems to put a damper on the mood most times. To their credit most of the women who work the bar remain cheerful even in the face of an overbearing boss.

Bottoms is probably one of the most popular bars on the street. Even though it is big and long with plenty of seats it does fill up on busy nights. The main draw is a staff of several dozen women including some super busty babes who dance with things like suspenders on that cover almost nothing up top. Prices are average and the place is otherwise not really notable.

There are plenty of other bars around and they continue to operate as they always have. There hasn’t been much in the way of openings and closing on the street in some time. Apparently the places make money even with rates that are much higher than most of the Philippines and even much of the world. At least some of the areas success must be due to the more aggressive women working some of the bars but supply and demand, presentation and big spenders who like to make it rain probably have an equal part to play.

There are so many stories floating around about guys getting into bad experiences when trying to purchase sex that the subject has almost become a running narrative akin to warning people against dropping the soap. Mainstream comedians even joke about getting into bad situations with sex workers but the guys who get ripped off probably don’t find it so funny.

While punters of all kind can get taken it seems that a lot of problems occur for guys who get drunk and follow strangers. Many accounts of people getting swindled by bars in Kabukicho, Prague and Patpong involve drunk foreigners following street touts into unknown places.

Experience tells me that those who keep stay alert and keep their wits about them usually avoid problems but any adventure in the adult entertainment industry does have at least some potential to end poorly. Obviously this is a real problem that exists and probably will continue unless prostitution is decriminalized.

Tokyo is one of the largest cities on earth but also one of the safest. While some locals say they are afraid of visiting places like the aforementioned Kabukicho at night it is all relative. The same can be said of Singaporeans who fear Geylang. Those who go their entire lives without either being a victim of crime or knowing anyone else who has tend to be more sensitive. For someone who spent their youth in Capetown, Kabul or even the South Side of Chicago, places like Kabukicho and Geylang might seem like something out of a utopian novel.

Although I have explored around every naughty area I could find no one has ever even attempted to scam or scheme me in my countless visits to Tokyo. Even things that people in some areas find harmless or “a part of life” like Manila taxi drivers refusing to run the meter and instead making up their own prices is totally absent. I have seen reports online of people being ripped off in Japan’s capital city but until recently it all seemed pretty distant.

Not long ago a Japanese acquaintance who just moved back home after an extensive period in the United States told me he was taken for a ride at a Tokyo sex shop. And not in a good way. Although he is obviously a native speaker of the language he ended up with a terrible experience and a bill much higher than he expected. His younger age and lack of experience may have contributed to the events but that is no excuse for shady business practices. Even though the Japanese guy in question has no idea that I write for this website I decided to investigate the place he had such an issue with.

Club Kunoichi is something like an involved pinsaro in the Ueno section of Tokyo. Located in an area with many other adult shops around, Kunoichi stations a tout in the street to convince passersby to enter. The touts makes all sorts of promises that are often broken. The shop itself is rather large and has a ninja theme in keeping with its name.

A display board just inside the curtain that serves as an outer door displays pictures of the same kind of attractive women that are seen on the shop’s website. At least some of these women do seem to exist but they are either reserved for regular customers or so busy that they must be nominated to be seen by customers. Of course that is not known until the initial money is already shelled out. There are many options but an average one forty minute session costs 6000 Yen ($50 USD).

Once customers agree pay the upfront fee they are led to a small room inside which is blocked from the rest of the shop with a curtain. There are magazines spread out for customers to read an a glass of clear liquor is provided free of charge. It wouldn’t surprise me if the booze was a calculated move to make punters more susceptible to being talked out their money soon after.

After spending time in the waiting room watching high heels scurry back and forth until the curtain customers are taken to one of several booths. These booths are similar to those in any Japanese blowjob bar but there are curtains that go around them to give some privacy. Curtains aren’t usually seen in Tokyo blowjob bars. The reason often given for this is that they would allow service providers to have full sex with clients which is against the rules and supposedly the law.

Next the customer is greeted in the booth by their assigned service provider. For foreigners and the uninitiated at least there is a good chance this woman will be in her late 40’s or 50’s and looking nothing like any of the women in the shop’s pictures. A cute or young style of dress doesn’t hide this. Nor does the dark lighting. Surprisingly some of these elder statesmen of suck shops can speak English better than almost anyone else in the local industry.

The provider may be coy at first and ask if the customer wants a massage. This time is used to ask for additional services. It is also a time to ask for a lady drink which costs 1000 Yen ($8.25 USD). Any of this can be politely refused but it is easy to see how some people could be pressured into accepting. Although the customers pay to enter they will be asked if they want a “special massage” which comes in various price increments. All sorts of odd extras are also available.

Those who go all in and take up everything offered end up with poor service in any event. The “middle” level of special service appears to be a few minutes of unskilled oral provided through a thick condom while the provider inserts a vibrator into the client’s backside. This runs an additional 2500 Yen. There is a “top” level of service available for more though its anyone’s guess what that involves. For me even gathering intelligence on the place was a painful experience. Although I don’t like to be too negative about any service provider I think it’s fair to make an honest assessment in a place that pushes people into departing from more money than they bargained for. Simply put many men wouldn’t have sexual relations with some of the women assigned to them in this place even if it came with a cash reward.

In my view the only redeemable feature of this place lies in the humor value of its location next to several family dining establishments. Surely the people eating their noodles have no idea that some grandma is pegging a twenty year old client in exchange for extra money next door. I give Club Kunoichi a half-star and that’s only because the system this website uses can’t go any lower.

What a view!

The coverage I’ve done on South Korea has been some of the most popular in the history of this site. That’s true even though this website is blocked in South Korea. The block and popularity of South Korean coverage on this site prompted the creation of another site that focuses on Korea but I continue to report on the country here.

As mentioned in the bulletin I posted two months ago there are quite a few places in Pattaya that I aim to report on this year even as the coverage on this site continues to expand into new and exciting parts of the world. Unlike some of the newer places on that list M Club has been around for a while. Perhaps due to its location it remains off the radar of many people even though it operates on an interesting model.

M Club is a rather large bar located next to the Maxx Central Condotel on Third Road Soi 14. Although it is a little out of the way it is not far from Bliss Bar which sees its share of customers. The secluded location could even be considered a desirable feature of a place like this especially for those who live locally and prefer a little more privacy than an area like Soi 6 can provide.

The front of M Club is made up of a large outdoor seating area that looks quite nice but doesn’t seem to get much use except from neighborhood cats. The inside of the bar is even bigger than the patio area and it is easy to see that some money was spent trying to make the place look nice. The unique designs involving contorted metal and colored canvas surely set this bar apart from others around town. That’s not an easy feat.

Like most gentlemen’s clubs M Club opens early in the day and allows punters to have a little fun before most of Pattaya’s infamous nightlife scene really gets going. There are women on staff as soon as the doors open. While they can seem a little shy to newcomers they are friendly people who quickly warm up with a bit of conversation.

Things can and do change quite a bit in the bar scene. Not long ago there were as many as ten women on hand during the day shift at M Club. During the last low season the number of women working during daylight hours was as low as three. With the high season now going again the number of women on staff could easily increase once again.

Whatever the number of women working at any given time they tend to be quite warm even if they are average in looks. Some are even quite attractive. A few may be a few years or pounds past bodacious but at least there are no really terrible looking women at the club. At times the lineup at this place can look better than a shift at some of the smaller go go bars around Pattaya which probably isn’t what most people would expect.

Drinks at Club M are very reasonably priced. At times they can go for as low as 50 Baht ($1.40 USD). The slightly more expensive lady drinks also come with a fair price. Although the women at Club M are happy to sit and talk with customers they don’t push hard for lady drinks. Even though said drinks are not overly expensive this is generally good practice and it helps creates a certain level of comfort that is absent from some other venues. The low level music does the same and is a nice alternative from Walking Street go go bars with gigantic speakers playing music so loud that any kind of conversation is made impossible. At the same tie the laid back atmosphere at Club M makes it perfectly possible to vegetate as well. Regulars can sometimes be seen sipping on a cold drink in silence while staring off into space.

A lot of gentlemen’s clubs in Pattaya have gained reputations as places for guys with local wives to go during the day to escape their domestic situations. I think that may be more true of the places on “the dark side” further east but it could be just as possible at a place like M Club.

Most of the women working the bar seem happy to join customers in the private booths at the back of Club M when asked. The booths have large couches and comfortable pillows and come complete with curtains that can pulled shut to make things a little more intimate. I imagine that many of the ladies on staff would also be glad to spend time with customers outside of the bar. Women at Club M work to make a living like anyone else but the amount of money they look to make for their time is always within reason and in tune with the rest of the local economy.

On top of the large pool and front patio Club M also has a back patio with a swimming pool where customers and the women on staff alike can cool off. There used to be regular pool parties held at Club M. I’m not sure if they still occur on a weekly basis. Apparently the bar was raided in early 2015 during a pool party though I have no way to know if the act of swimming had anything to do with prompting that. I don’t have any idea was caused it in fact but I do know that the bar reopened soon after and things now look to be back to normal.

To sum up Club M is a large nicely built bar. The location offers almost as much privacy as the nice big booths in the back many might consider to be a great thing even if the bar itself could probably go for a few more customers some days. Club M is a unique place staffed by kind women who aim to please. I give it an above average score of three stars.

I have been interviewing people in the sex industry for years. I have interviewed numerous sex workers from around the world but until recently I haven’t published any question and answer pieces with American prostitutes.

The biggest reason for that would probably be that prostitution is illegal in most of the country. Any interview I could publish would likely have to remain anonymous. I have thought about doing something like that but for a number of reasons never went through with it.

Instead I have tried to interview women working at legal brothels in the state of Nevada. I have reached out to a handful of sex workers in that state with public personas and social media profiles. Many have said that would like to do an interview but none have actually gone through with it.

The lovely Norma Jean not only agreed to do an interview for the readers of this site but also kept her promise. The results which I think you will find quite interesting follow.

Where are you from and if I may ask how old are you?

I am 36 years old. I was born in Great Falls, MT. But grew up as a teenager and spent most of my adult years in Seattle, WA.

Considering the nature of this site and your work there’s no sense beating around the bush. How old were you the first time you had sex?

Haha. I was 14 years old. I was early at everything I guess sex too.

Where do you work and what kind of work do you do?

I am a legal working girl “prostitute”. I work for the one and only “Dennis Hof”. I float around from the World famous Bunny Ranch, to the Love Ranch Vegas, and to the Alien Cathouse. I do appointments at all 3 of the houses.

How did you get into that line of work and how long have you been doing it?

I started in the sex industry as a stripper at 19 and realized stripping wasn’t my hustle, to cut throat and too much work for the return. So I found a path thru a friend in escorting at 20 years old. I found brothels in the early 2000’s and been working ever since. I’ve taken this career by the horns and fell I’m not a for now working girl, rather I am a career prostitute like so many successful others like Airforce Amy, Caressa Kisses, and Candy McKarthy.

You are obviously an attractive lady. How much of a role do looks play in the kind of work you do?

Looks is fifty percent of my business. Attitude and confidence is the other fifty percent. Don’t get me wrong looks get me a call back faster when applying at a brothel, haha. I remember when I applied at the Bunny Ranch, I sent pictures in and within 48 hours I got a call to come in. I was hired as long as I could pass medical. “No problem” and get a sheriff’s card and pass the background check “again, no problem.” When I arrived to the Bunny Ranch talking to other bunnies I learned some waited 3 months or so to get hired and put on the schedule. So the point of my story is yes! Looks are a plus in this business. But I have seen Beautiful woman fail in this business over an entitled crappy attitude.

Have you ever refused a client for any reason?

I have refused a client or two in my time for having a dirty D.C. A D.C is what’s known in brothel lingo as a dick check. Which is performed before any money can be expected. We are trained to look for legions, bumps, redness, discoloration, and common STDs. A diaper wipe soaked in alcohol is rubbed gently from the bottom of the scrotum to the tip of the head. If there is any legions the gentleman will squirm and we have the judgement and right to say no or refuse service.

Do you ever refuse requests for things out of the normal?

I have never refused a request. I love sex and I feel I am a strong representation being in the business. I consider myself a try-sexual, I’ll try it once. Safe, Sane, and Fun! Everything’s on the table with me!

Why do you think prostitution is illegal in most of the United States? Why are strip clubs approved while brothels are not?

Prostitution is nothing new. I guarantee in all of our generations back we all have had a prostitute in the family, perhaps a few. It’s the oldest profession in the book along with fishing for woman. I feel a deep connection within this business and a soul pull. I see the problems lying in the laps of networks that when showing a prostitute in a sitcom or a movie it shows the lowest forms of prostitution. Instead of showing the upper higher end of it. Greedy, in thinking that wouldn’t bring viewers in. But I think HBO had it right when they brought Cathouse to a series. Unfortunately, not everybody gets HBO. But surely even with an antenna you get Fox, CBS, NBC, and ABC. Which is a no brainer but surely a Big Brother or a Bachelor or Bachelorette or any of the other real live house series speaks for it. Haha.

Until education is wanted on a fair level of our business, a good majority of people will always have the image of the worst in this business. And of course the hypocrites who show two faces are the ones that have hidden wants and desires, but are afraid of what people might say or think I know who I am and what I do and why I choose to do it. Strip clubs being legal and prostitution not is a no brainer to me. Strip clubs will never require a weekly medical test. There are higher risks in running brothels compared to strip clubs that only require an entertainer’s license easily obtained, fingerprints in some counties, a couple poles and a stage with seating, a DJ booth and proper insurance and boom! A strip club is born. A brothel requires oversight from local, state, and federal government. The background checks are extensive. The weekly medical is anywhere from $60.00 to $80.00 a week. Which the results are then faxed to the sheriff’s department who are the ones that clear us through the house. The steps involved in the weekly maintenance of a brothel is busy and by the books. If strippers do give head or a sex act in the club my first question would be did you pass medical this week? Sex is fun, but not worth dying over.

What do you think about the large legal commercial sex scenes in countries like Germany?

Honestly I am for woman’s sex rights. Anytime any government wants to pull their head out and realize legalizing prostitution lowers crime, brings in revenue and promotes safe sex. I’m in!

What’s the best thing about the Bunny Ranch in your view?

The best thing about working for Dennis Hof is the respect and understanding he gives all his ladies. We all come from different walks of life, and he has a way of uniting us not only as a team but as a dysfunctional family as many one. It doesn’t matter how harsh opinions are I and others are always made to feel acceptance and a part of something much bigger than someone’s opinion.

What can guys do to make their experience at the Ranch as good as possible?

I get asked the question often how does a woman or man coming into a ranch prepare. I say look online to the ranch you’re interested in, read the ladies biography, watch videos of the ladies and figure out what you’re looking for by pre-shopping before you come in. Email the ladies and tell them the experience and type of party you are looking for. So when you come in you’re not feeling rushed and shy to pick someone in the lineup. Romania is a country in Eastern Europe much praised for the beauty of its women. Today’s review will cover a little known but outstanding strip club with extras located in the region of Transylvania, way off the beaten track. Hopefully readers will find it just as entertaining as the numerous write ups on mainstream locations such as Bangkok and Tokyo.

Orgasmo is located in the mountain resort of Băile Tușnad, a small town of about 1,500 permanent residents that thrives on its growing tourism industry. While plenty could be said about its family spa or the beauty of the scenery, readers of this site are undoubtedly more interested in the adult entertainment available. As the only adult themed venue in the entire town, Orgasmo would stand out even if the services provided were of poor quality. Luckily it also has some merits of its own.

Visitors unable to speak Romanian don’t need to worry since Orgasmo is nearly impossible to miss. Băile Tușnad is so small that it can literally be walked from one end to the other and Orgasmo happens to be right on the main street, advertised by a large sign. Nothing happens around there during the day but the club comes alive at night when its lights are turned on to signal that the place is open for business.

Much like the town itself, Orgasmo is a tiny and cozy affair. It doesn’t appear to attract more than a handful of customers on any given night. On some nights there may not be any customers at all. This doesn’t seem to affect the business though as Orgasmo has been in operation for years and it seems unlikely that it will go away anytime soon.

First time visitors can expect to be jovially greeted by the owner, who doubles as a bartender, and escorted to a couch on the opposite side of the room. The couch is right in front of a small round platform with a single pole where a few dancers take turns showing off their skills. Some of them can pull quite a stunt. The couch is positioned so close to the platform that there is barely any legroom, but any discomfort to the lower limbs is mitigated by the up close view of the action. There is also the option of sitting on a stool next to the bar, which is located near the entrance and offers a view from afar. In either case the customer will be handed a menu consisting of drinks and some services such as the classic option of a private lap dance.

To say that the lineup of girls is limited would be a major understatement. At last check, there were only three women working at Orgasmo. Some nights only one or two will actually show up. Thankfully what it lacks in quantity is more than made up for in quality. None of the dancers at Orgasmo could be called unattractive and at least one of them meets all the requirements to be considered a stunner.

At any point the customer can ask a gal to join him on the couch or at the bar. The ensuing interaction will be punctuated by the purchase of lady drinks that sell for 50 RON ($12 USD) each. While not every girl can speak enough English to sustain a prolonged conversation, they are usually less than shy about taking their bra off. If a customer and a gal hit it off some mild foreplay can take place out in the open. The women are very flirtatious and drinking with them can be a lot of fun. Punters looking for some real action can easily take things to the next step by pointing at the last page of the menu.

A quick glance past the beers and spirits will reveal two mysterious items highlighted with a text marker. Their names roughly translate to Small Champagne and Big Champagne. While anyone would be forgiven for assuming that these refer to actual drinks, they are in fact code names for sexual services. Small Champagne stands for a blowjob while Big Champagne stands for sex, the services being priced at 200 RON ($48 USD) and 400 RON ($96 USD) respectively.

The sale of sex is officially illegal in Romania. Any venue or individual engaging in the trade is forced to operate under the radar. Plenty of guys have visited Bucharest or other major cities in the country only to be frustrated by the apparent lack of venues offering full service, which for many ends up taking the form of a private negotiation with a masseuse in a massage parlor. That’s not the case at Orgasmo. Here full service is available as a standard service and the process is very straightforward.

After making his intentions known to the girl, the customer will follow her into a small room behind the dancing platform. The room comes with a bed, a vertical mirror and a corner table. Here they will proceed to undress and she will perform the service of choice within the time allotted, which is 30 minutes for oral action and 60 minutes for full service. Both services are covered and the condom is provided by the girl. There is no clock watching and all of the women are experienced at what they do. As always, your mileage may vary depending on a number of factors such as chemistry and perhaps the phase of the moon, but most customers should leave satisfied.

The titular bottle of champagne is actually available for consumption even though it doesn’t taste very good in my opinion. The customer and his girl can wrap things up by sharing a drink or two in the privacy of the room. Smoking is also allowed. Once the session has come to a close the punter will either head back to his seat in the main lounge or walk straight toward the exit, where he will make a stop at the counter to settle his tab.

As a well run gentlemen’s club offering a varied range of services, provided by enthusiastic women at reasonable rates, Orgasmo deserves praise for effectively catering to different needs under the same roof. It manages to be at once strip club, blowjob bar and something more. Unfortunately it’s a small and understaffed venue in a somewhat secluded geographical location. It is difficult to access unless one is willing to travel across Romania by train or bus. Then again it delivers unmatched value to people who should already find themselves in the area for leisure or business. Taking all of the above into consideration, I believe it deserves a solid three stars.

Japan is home to a very large commercial sex scene that at times can boggle the mind in its scope and style. Although I have covered dozens of sex shops in Japan over the years I haven’t really even scratched the surface yet.

Kirari Community Cafe or “Date Cafe Kirari” as it also called in English is a place where guys can go to meet eager women looking for fun and a bit of money. The company has multiple locations. The place under review today is a branch in the Ikebukuro section of Tokyo but the other locations operate in the same manner.

Kirari Community Cafe is located right out in the open on a main street. It is easy to find even for those with a poor sense of direction and marked by a giant flashing neon sign out front that displays the name of the place in Japanese (出会い). Inside the entrance there is a very small lobby that looks more like a hallway. Male employees wait here to help customers.

First time customers have to pay an initial fee of 2,000 Yen ($16.50 USD) sign up for a membership card to visit Kirari date cafe. It takes some time and effort to get the card but once a person has it they can visit whenever they would like without issue. Perspective customers fill out a short informational sheet that asks for a name, age and phone number.

Phone numbers have to be confirmed so perspective customers are called immediately by the staff to check that the digits are correct. This is a safety measure aimed at making sure guys who leave the place with women can be tracked down if something happens. The rule is certainly understandable from that perspective but still fairly meaningless as it is incredibly easy for people to get anonymous numbers and otherwise manipulate their information. More than a few posters on online message boards say they have signed up with fake names and numbers. There is no reason to doubt the but if the system is heavily abused and it leads to problems it is easy to imagine how the sign up process could become more tedious in the future.

Foreigners are accepted at Kirari date cafe though it would be a hard place to manage with no Japanese skills at all since the men on staff and the women who show up at the place are mainly unable or unwilling to speak English. An effort does seem to be made to accommodate foreigners who make the effort to visit the place however so a gaijin capable of speaking even a few words of the Japanese language may be able to manage.

Once customers have a membership card they can visit any time they want for an additional 2,000 Yen. After they pay this one time fee for the day they can head downstairs to the display room. This room is divided into different parts. All are small and at times can get crowded. To the left there is a lounge area the size of a closet that contains a soft drink machine and some cups. To the right there is a hallway and large glass windows.

The windows are made of two way glass so that the men in the hallway can see inside of the room on the other side but the women in that room cannot see the men in the hallway. Women come in to the cafe and hang out in the room waiting to be picked by a guy. They don’t work for the cafe. They are totally independent and free to come and go as they would like. All sorts of Japanese women show up at Kirari but most are in their twenties with a few slightly older. Some office ladies visit after work. Some college students do too. There are also plenty of freeters and a fair share of professional and semi-pro prostitutes.

While the women wait in the room they do things like read comics, play with their phones or even eat. Most look totally uninterested in the situation even though they went out of their way to visit the place. There is a small card on the window in front of each woman that gives a bit of info and a name that is almost certainly fake. Club members can look at these cards along with the women on the other side of the glass to try to find someone that interests them.

Small papers are provided around the room for members to write their name, type of employment and interests. They can also indicate if they are looking for someone to drink with, someone to eat with or someone to spend “free time” with which in this context usually means getting intimate. When a member finds a woman he would like to talk to he takes her card off of the window and hands it along with a completed profile paper to one of the male staff members.

The male staff member then goes to give the paper to the woman in question. If she agrees she will be brought to a one of several curtained off cubicles upstairs to meet the man who selected her. Most women seem to agree to most advances and there is no real loss for anyone who is rejected anyway since they are never even seen.

Members are given ten minutes to chat with the women they select in the cubicle spaces. Being in a confined space with a strange can lead to a strange situation but it doesn’t have to. Many times things flow freely. Everyone knows they are at the cafe to meet and mutual interest is indicated by agreement to meet in the cubicle to begin with so there is really no need for the kind of strange feelings that a guy might feel when approaching a stranger in a public place.

Chat time in the cubicle is used more to arrange a date outside of the cafe than to get to know people. Names and cute stories can be traded anytime but guidelines have to be set before things can go further. Conversation considered too direct or rude is avoided but people can figure things out in a polite way.

Some of the women who go to Kirari Community Cafe are looking for nothing more than a drinking partner. Some have specific goals in mind like seeing a particular movie or trying a specific restaurant. At times dates like these can lead to more afterwards. Many other times the date ends without so much as a kiss. The men are expected to pay for everything and give a tip directly to the ladies they spend time with. There is no set compensation for a regular date but the usual suggestion is 5,000 Yen ($42 USD).

Many women at Kirari cafe are there specifically to sell sex. Some are more obvious than others and a few will be selective but there is usually no shortage of ladies looking to trade a quick romp for some money. Members looking for these kinds of ladies usually write that they are looking for “free play.” During conversations in the private cubicles they usually ask what the woman would think about going to a love hotel or say something like “warikiri dou desu ka?” For whatever reason “warikiri” is date cafe slang for sex.

If a woman agrees to spend intimate time with a member they may negotiate a price right then and there. On the other hand the woman may simply expect the guy to give her an average payment later. There are no rules since each woman at the club is independent but 10,000 Yen ($83 USD) to 30,000 Yen ($248 USD) is the usual range. Members who take women out are also expected to pay for a short stay at one of the many local love hotels which usually costs a few thousand yen.

There are stories of scams and rip offs from women at date cafes flying around but most boil down to guys agreeing to go on drinking dates and being unable to turn it into more later. I don’t think that’s a rip off. I think it is compensated dating. The women who are willing to go straight to bed are usually straightforward about it. From there reneging on the deal is almost unheard of as are things like theft. The women who visit the date cafes have to register just like the men. Many are regulars and don’t want to spoil a place they rely on to make money.

In any place where women work independently there will be a huge variation in sexual experiences. Nearly all women will do oral sex and full intercourse if they agree to go to a love hotel but performance can vary greatly. Some women may be experts in bed while others may be totally passive. Women with mainstream jobs just looking for a little money or fun may hang around for hours and behave in a romantic manner. Others may get right down to business. The more hardened and professional women will sometimes set time limits of as little as one hour. Many of these women often ask for more money than their more amateur counterparts as well. Some women look for long term friends with benefits and sugar daddy situations that can help them earn more money and waste less time waiting for guys to pick them out of a room.

Japanese date cafes operate on an interesting model. They were likely started to get around laws that make things like brothels and pimping illegal. As with places like Showpark DaVinci in Prague and Mainhattan in Frankfurt the business makes money by charging people to enter the facilities. They don’t employee sex workers or take a cut of their income. They simply provide a meeting service in a safe environment.

Although date cafes were created as a response to rules handed down from above the methods they developed are some of the most fair and equitable that can be found in any country. In a place where people had equal standing and were free to sell or purchase sex as they pleased meeting places like these could play a valuable role. As it stands they are businesses in it for the money but helping lots of people come together in the process.

Kirari Community Cafe is one of the better examples of a Japanese date cafe. On top of that they are open and accommodating to foreigners which unfortunately is not the norm in Japan. The only real problem with the place is the cramped space it operates in but that is an issue faced by every outfit in Tokyo.

Kirari offers a lot of service for a little money. The constant flow of male members and female freelancers proves that they do good by their customers. I admit that I may have a soft spot for this particular date cafe since it helped me score my first adult encounter with a Japanese gyaru, but I think my review is pretty objective. Whatever the case I give the place four stars.
