This will come as no surprise to readers of Rockit Reports, but sex is on sale all over the world. Even in some of the most far flung and unlikely places. I have previously reviewed a full service titty bar located in a Transylvanian village of 1,000 people, as well as a brothel in the Swiss Alps, right across the border from Italy. My third, and until now last, review on this site was about a naughty KTV in a part of Manila that few foreigners visit, where I got a girl to spray milk all over my face from her tits, and to suck on my very own “microphone”, for the price of a few beers and some chicken wings.

I have a penchant for going off the beaten track. That is why today I’m writing this fourth piece in a hotel room overlooking the Black Sea, reporting from the city of Batumi, in the former Soviet republic of Georgia. As you are about to find out, even here in the Caucasus region — a part of the world that was never heralded as a libertine’s paradise, and for good reason — a little money can go a long way when it comes to finding intimacy. Or as I like to phrase it, where there is a bill, there is a lay.

Georgia is booming

Unbeknownst to many Westerners, the country of Georgia is currently booming, and nowhere is that more apparent than here in Batumi. Over the last few years several casinos, nightclubs, apartment complexes and luxury hotels (including household names like Sheraton, Hilton, Marriott and Meridien) have sprung up all over the city, which was once a sleepy outpost that nobody would visit. But the world keeps changing, and Batumi has become a favorite holiday destination for cashed up Turks and Russians, and to a lesser extent Iranians, Israelis, Ukranians and Chinese. Take it from me, some of the buildings in Batumi wouldn’t look out of place in Las Vegas or Macau. The overall vibe is that of a new “sin city” in the making.

Wherever there is gambling there tends to be prostitution. Batumi is no exception. As of 2019 there isn’t much information about the latter on the internet, at least not in the English language (which, by the way, is not widely spoken in Georgia). But I was able to confirm the presence of more than a few working girls in Batumi, hailing from neighboring countries and even from Thailand. Amid seedy night clubs that take advantage of tourists with inflated bills, and underground places that are prone to being raided and shut down by the police, it can be difficult for a Western punter to navigate this city. Fear not though, as I have done a bit of legwork, and I’m able to point you in the right direction.

Thai massage in Little Istanbul

Said direction is that of the Turkish neighborhood, located at the northern end of the New Boulevard along the sea (it’s literally named just that, “New Boulevard”), in an area roughly delimited by Gogebashvili Street on one side and Baratashvili Street on the opposite side. Smack in the middle of this “Little Istanbul” of sorts you will find a dozen or more Thai massage parlors, not unlike the ones you may have seen in Thailand. They are mostly concentrated on and near two parallel streets named Gamsakhurdia Street and Kutaisi Street. With evocative names such as “Phuket Massage”, and with authentic Thai ladies waving in male passersby, it’s not difficult to imagine what goes on inside those venues… but if you are still clueless, read on.

The various massage parlors are very similar to one another, almost to the point of blending into a single entity. That is why I won’t review any joint in particular, but rather I will provide you with an overview of them. They all operate pretty much in the same way. That is to say, after a lengthy and surprisingly thorough massage, you are likely to be offered some sort of “happy ending”.

I have visited five different parlors, and in all but one of them I was offered extras. The first time it was a handjob; the second time a blowjob; and the other two times it was full service. Both of the ladies who did full service were also available for takeout, and in one instance I was led to a short time hotel across the street, where the Georgian staff seemed well aware of what was going on (and couldn’t care less, going so far as greeting the Thai woman with a knowing smile). The lady paid for the room out of her own pocket.

In the other instance, the woman was willing to either have sex right in the massage booth, or follow me to my own hotel under payment of a 100 GEL barfine to the shop (a little over $30 USD at the current exchange rate). Both women quoted 150 GEL for their services ($50 USD), so I’m inclined to believe that’s the going rate for sex. The blowjob lady wanted 80 GEL ($37 USD) and sucked me off right than and there; while that handjob finish cost me 50 GEL ($17 USD). I didn’t waste any time haggling, but I’m confident that these rates are somewhat negotiable.

Prostitution in Georgia

As you can see there are no hard and fast rules. Based on my limited sample size, you have an 80% chance of being offered some kind of extra, and a 40 percent chance of it being full service. Take these figures with a pinch of salt though, and remember that your mileage may vary. If you want to make sure that you are not wasting your time, you can simply ask the ladies upfront whether or not they will perform any extras. I have seen some Turkish customers bluntly discuss the subject right at the front door, and the masseuses (while a bit taken aback) were less than shy about informing them of who did what, and for how much.

It seems a direct approach works best. Or you risk ending up like me at the second parlor I visited, where I got nothing but a cup of tea at the end, despite the lady making me go full nude from the start, and “accidentally” touching my junk several times (to which I acted unfazed and kept a gentlemanly silence, which may have been a mistake in hindsight).

Whatever you do, remember that first and foremost you’ll have to pay for the massage itself. Payment is rendered in advance at the front desk. The pricing is slightly different at each parlor, but a thirty minute oily massage goes for around 40 GEL (~ $13 USD), while an hour-long session is around 70 GEL (~ $23 USD). There’s no reason to opt for the pricier option unless you actually want a lengthy massage. If anything, that may discourage some women from offering extras, since you already made it worth her while; but that’s just a theory of mine.

The ladies

Speaking of the women, most of them are in their late thirties, and quite a few in their forties. Many are rotund or plain overweight, but there are also some thin and fit ones in the mix. Few if any of them would qualify for a beauty pageant; then again, that can be said of the average woman anywhere. The constant influx of men into these shops, at all hours of the day and night, tells me that there is no shortage of eager customers. If you don’t like what you see in the window, simply keep walking around the block until you see a lady whom you know you could get it up for (or better yet, poke your head in and ask to see who is available).

What some women lack in youthfulness and looks, they make up for with warmth and friendliness. Their uniquely Thai charm is in refreshing contrast to the general grumpiness of Georgian people. If you can speak the Thai language (even a few basic words), the girls are sure to giggle and loosen up. I have learned that most of them are in Georgia on a temporary basis, taking advantage of the country’s lax visa regimen to earn some money abroad; but all of them miss Thailand and can’t wait to go home, which is hardly surprising if you know anything about Thais. Also, it seems like most of the parlors are Thai owned, with older Thai women in charge of the recruiting.

I should probably mention that the shops are located in a busy neighborhood filled with tourists and passersby, which was enough to make even an experienced punter like me feel a tiny bit shy at times. It gets better at night, when there is less activity on the streets. All the parlors open before midday and close a couple hours after midnight. As a final tip, one of the better venues is Marigold Massage, which currently employs several slim women, and where happy endings seem to be fairly standard.

Hostess bars and more

Interspersed between the Thai massage parlors you will notice a few hostess bars, eerily similar to the ones in Cambodia. They are staffed by Turkish women, and cater to Turkish men, which means they are more or less off-limits to anyone who doesn’t speak Turkish. I stopped by one of these bars for a drink and I was warmly welcomed, but all I could obtain was for a lady to pour my beer. She became shy and left when she realized I didn’t speak her language. Meanwhile, there were a bunch of Turkish men drinking and fooling around with some ladies on the couch next to mine. I took a piss and moved on, sparing myself further embarrassment.

There is likely more to Batumi’s pay for play scene than just the Turkish quarters, but I don’t have enough first hand information at the moment to mention any other venue in particular. Long term visitors should be able to find out more on their own. Casinos, nightclubs and dating apps are probably a good place to start, and I’m pretty sure you could gain some intel from taxi drivers. The village of Gonio just outside Batumi is also, reportedly, a meeting point for prostitutes and their customers, tough I haven’t been there in person. The women are said to originate from Central Asia (Uzbekistan, etc.) and parts of Russia. Late May to early October is the best time to visit, as Batumi is very much a summer destination (winters can be freezing cold in Georgia).

Summary

If you do visit Batumi, be aware that some establishments are known run scams on tourists, including a sizable club on the Boulevard, close to the beach, currently going by the name of Garden Club and formerly known as Inferno. Steer clear of that place. I must also mention that prostitution is very much illegal in Georgia, and crackdowns at the hands of the police do occasionally happen. One of the most popular clubs in the city, known for housing short time rooms on the upper floor, was shut down in 2017, along with other four or five similar establishments.

Then again, I recently saw a lone policeman patrolling the street where most of the Thai massage parlors are located, and he looked bored more than anything else. Either the authorities in Batumi have little knowledge of what a Thai massage may entail beside a rub down, or they are looking the other way at this point in time. Make of that what you will, and remember that you are solely responsible for your own actions.

If I were the mayor of Batumi I wouldn’t be too concerned about the situation. From what I have seen, this city isn’t poised to replace Pattaya anytime soon, despite its location on the sea and the abundance of neon lights. Most foreign visitors at this time seem to be families with children.

However there can be no doubt that sex is on sale in Batumi. The pickings may be slim, but the offering is there. In a country as socially conservative as Georgia, that has to count for something. It will be interesting to see how things evolve.

Ponytails is one of the many go go bars in Angeles City. It is also one of the largest bars though the place never seems to get that much attention. The only reason I can find for that is the bar’s location up the road from the main Fields Ave “Walking Street” area. Because it staffs its share of attractive women as has some of the lowest prices for the area.

Another thing that makes Ponytails notable is its operating hours. Although Ponytails is just a short walk from the main Walking Street area, the bar opens at noon like many of the lesser known bars further up on Perimeter Road. This even makes the place stand out from other parts of the world like Pattaya where go go bars usually don’t get going until well after nightfall.

Ponytails go go bar

Ponytails opened in the early 2000’s, in what many consider to be the peak of the Angeles City bar scene. The go go bar is located on Fields Avenue a few doors down from the well known girl friendly Angeles Beach Club hotel. The bar’s building is large and easy to spot thanks to a big illuminated sign in front that reads Pony Tails.

As the layout inside and out vaguely suggests, the bar used to have a sort of country western theme. Nowadays it doesn’t have much of a theme at all. It’s a go go bar with several women working the stage in bikinis. The gals used to dance with nothing more than body paint covering their cans. But that ended after a series of raids put a damper on things.

Ladies and prices

There are usually a good number of ladies on stage and off at Ponytails. Of course there is always a variety of gals in any place like this. But larger and more aged ladies have become more common at some bars than others. Ponytails has always done a surprisingly good job at hiring a significant number of attractive ladies in their early twenties with fit bodies. At least on all of my visits over the years.

The mamasans at Ponytails are quite friendly too. These days its common to run into cold and aggressive managers in the bars. But I’ve always been greeted with a smile and a friendly welcome at Pony Tails. That is as true now as it was years ago when I first visited.

The dancers themselves are usually quite friendly too. Though some of them can be a but shy. This makes sense, as the bar doesn’t seem be nearly as popular as it used to be. So some of the newer employees that in rotate in simply don’t have a lot of experience interacting with foreign guys.

Ponytails has reasonable prices. They have gone up over the years, but they’re still not nearly as high as what some of the big Walking Street bars charge with their “models”. Drinks are less than a hundred pesos. Lady drinks are 200 Pesos ($3.85 USD). The barfine, or early work release, is 2500 Pesos ($48 USD).

Many repeat visitors and full timers in Angeles City decry the decline of the bar scene. Yet some others newer to the city proclaim its greatness. As usual, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Ponytails at least is much the same as it was when I first found the place years ago. It is still an above average bar with lower than usual prices. Three stars.

Narin Massage is a massage parlor in Ubon Ratchathani. There are of course countless massage parlors in Thailand. At some point, most of the shops start to blend in with one another. But there are shops that stand out from the pack. Especially in Ubon Ratchathani which is a fairly quiet place for a city of its size.

Narin Massage is notable for a few reasons. The first is that it is one of just a few Thai massage parlors in Ubon. The second is that it employs a very large number of women for a shop of its size. The third reason is that the women actually give thorough therapeutic massages. And perhaps most notable of all are the

Narin Massage in Ubon

Narin Thai Massage is easy to find. It is located on a main street across the road from the previously reviewed Palace soapy massage. During the day it is rather inconspicuous. But at night the shop is more visible thanks to lighting and the presence of numerous women seated out front.

The lobby at Narin is quite long and cluttered. The seats on both sides of the room are filled by Thai women in their twenties, thirties and perhaps forties. Few can speak much English besides the female manager. She has a decent enough grasp of the language to book sessions for farang.

Prices and staff

A one hour oil massage at Narin is 500 Baht ($16 USD). A two hour Thai massage is 300 Baht. But when a foreign guy shows up, they seem to just assume that he wants an oil massage. Probably that is because an oil massage is typically performed on a nude customer and is more likely to end happy. Although Thai guys make up the biggest customer base for adult entertainment in Thailand, Farang have a reputation for seeking out sensual services.

At Narin they usually team the next lady in line with whoever walks in. It seems like they might push the older and less popular ladies towards foreigners too. Of course customers can actually select their own service provider. But they have to take charge to do so. In any event, the older and perhaps less attractive ladies can actually give great massages.

Inside Narin Massage

Narin Massage is in a fairly large building. The private massage rooms are all located upstairs. Getting to them requires passing through an upper level with a hand made multi-lingual “no sex” sign on the wall. These signs don’t necessarily indicate anything as they can be found everywhere from the Z-Through Spa across town to 252 Massage in Phnom Penh.

The massage quarters at Narin are pretty big, and they’re generally better kept than the lobby. One of the rooms is very large and comes complete with a reclining chair, old television, massage table, and mattress on the ground. The ground mattress is used for Thai and oil massage.

Massage and more

As stated above, some of the ladies at Narin can give very good full body massages. They are thorough and skilled. And even in their oil massages they combine some aspects of Thai massage like stretching out various parts of the body. They are not mechanical and they don’t rush or skip through things. They give very good massages.

There isn’t much in the way of eroticism to the massages, even on the front side after the flip. But the women can quickly get into giving a happy ending by hand. And they don’t have to haggle or even ask before grabbing a fist full and going at it. Perhaps most notable is the hand finishes aren’t fast cranks to get the job done. Instead they are done with the same care and attention as the rest of the massages. So it’s a sort of “all over” therapy that almost seems incidental to the rest of the massage. In that way, the place is reminiscent of Mandarin Thaimassage in Berlin where the happy endings are included as a matter of fact.

I can’t say that every woman who works the shop provides a happy ending to every customer who walks in. Since such things are done unofficially, the only way to confirm such a hypothesis would be to have multiple guys go into the place and try massages with all the various women on staff. I can only report on what I have seen. There are at least some masseuses happy to lend a handjob for a tip of three to five hundred Baht, which is somewhat standard across Thailand.

Narin is an average Thai massage parlor in many ways. But because of its location and the ladies on staff, the place is notable in some ways. Even with a full service soapy parlor across the street. If Narin were in a city like Bangkok it wouldn’t stand out as much. But it is in Ubon where the streets are often quite quiet. Two-and-a-half stars.

Smooci and it’s “on demand escort” model really seems to be a success. The company launched in 2017. In the two years that have followed it has expanded around the globe. From its beginnings in Thailand, the site now has listings in cities as varied as Tokyo, Manila, London and Berlin. That list is set to get longer now with the addition of three new cities. Smooci is now launching in the Philippine cities of Angeles and Cebu. It is also opening in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

I can’t say that I am totally surprised about Smooci’s growth. I didn’t expect it to spread so far and so fast. But as soon as I heard of the website and its services I had a feeling it would catch on. Last year I compared Smooci to once popular escort directories. As it turned out, Smooci has since added even more to its coverage. It makes sense. The website basically allows escorts to advertise to a dedicated customer base. Customers can then browse through a streamlined website that includes everything from verified pictures to full lists of services and prices. The main draw for both sides is the ability to book immediate sessions in a clear and straightforward way.

Smooci in ASEAN

Smooci started out in Bangkok. Not long after it was operating in many other southeast Asian cities. The site now operates in Hong Kong, Macau, Manila, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. The addition of Angeles City, Cebu and Phnom Penh adds three more cities to that list that also includes places in East Asia and Europe. The truth is that it is no difficult task for a man to find a sex worker in most any of those cities. But that doesn’t get in the way of Smooci’s business model. Plenty of people obviously enjoy the ability to browse through escorts from the privacy of their own place. I am sure the verified pictures and reviews available to premium users also has a lot to do with the draw.

From what I have heard Smooci is also set to expand to Ho Chi Minh City and even Indonesia before the year ends. Clearly there is a big demand for their on demand model even or especially in parts of the world that have long been known to house a large number of sex workers. The internet is now involved in all aspects of daily life for billions of people. As time goes on that will only continue. Increasingly things related to sex and human sexuality are also going online. Smooci was at the forefront of connecting customers with escorts through the internet and it follows that they would continue to grow. But who knew they would grow so quickly and widely?

Smooci’s new discounts

Perhaps as a sign of their success or simply an enlightened business practice Smooci is now offering discounts to premium members. Those with premium accounts can receive discounts between three and fifteen dollars when they make a booking. The premium service is already inexpensive with short memberships costing as little as $9.99 USD. So there is potential for customers to actually have their premium account paid for when they book a session.

The Smooci site is of course totally free to use. But premium accounts do come with a lot of added features. Premium members can read verified comments left by other customers who have met the women listed on the site. Smooci actually verifies that the comments are accurate too. So there shouldn’t be any of the phony testimonials all too common among escort discussions online. Premium members can also chat with the escorts who are listed on the website. So premium members can quickly have their questions answered or even negotiate on prices.

Premium members at Smooci can also view verified photographs of the people who advertise on the website. Since so many pictures online are heavily edited this is a real innovation that is difficult to find elsewhere. Verified customers who have made bookings are able to tell whether photographs are accurate or not. The Smooci site than concentrates this feedback in one easy to see place. For many this could even be the main draw of the premium service the Smooci people provide.

Finally Smooci premium account holders are able to view offline escorts and make bookings as far as 24 hours in advance. This is something that regular casual users cannot do. Some popular escorts may become fully booked out as soon as they go online. Guys with premium memberships are able to get in touch with them beforehand to avoid that possibility. This too could be a major draw for a lot of customers who spend the money for a premium account. And that like the rise and expansion of Smooci is totally understandable for those of us who pay attention.

This interview with a Thai soapy massage worker is long overdue. As previously reported on this website soapy massage parlors are a big part of the commercial sex industry in Thailand. They are perhaps most frequently visited by locals with money and Asian businessmen while oily massage parlors and go go bars seem to be more popular for Westerners.

Interviews with prominent people in the sex industry such as porn stars and producers have waned in recent years. Some have even been taken down by request after the people being interviewed had changes of heart or came to regret whatever they said.

I continue to publish these question and answer sessions as I feel they are an important aspect of covering the commercial sex industry though today I focus more on anonymous interviews with sex workers directly engaged with customers such as blowjob bar workers. I am still open to interview porn stars and other visible people in the industry though if the opportunity presents itself.

Did you make a lot of money?

Not much. I make more money here.

What kind of bar was it?

At that bar they usually have sex or do blowjobs. I only went out with customers one or two times. It was my first work like this so I was scared. We did drink alcohol too.

How did you get into this kind of work?

My auntie. She called my mom and asked about me. My mom needs money. I love my mom. I love my family. I have to take care of them.

Does your mom work?

What? My mom is old. I have to take care of her and my brother. I am the daughter. I love my family so much. I want them to be happy.

Okay. So you send most of your money home?

I send all of my money to my mom. I keep some for my room and my makeup only. I buy makeup and contacts and make my hair up. If I do not look beautiful I can’t get any customers.

Do you make more money here than you did at your previous job?

Yes of course. I make a lot more money here.

How much do you make?

I can make about 1000 Baht ($32 USD) from each customer. Some customers tip. Sometimes I go outside to meet customers. In one month I can get about 60,000 Baht ($1921 USD).

So you don’t have to work at 7 Eleven anymore.

Yes. That’s right. Haha.

How many customers do you get each day?

It is never the same. Some days I don’t get any customers. Some days I get two or three customers. One day I got seven customers.

How was that? It sounds like it could be difficult.

It was good. I got a lot of money that day. I sent the money to my mom the next day. She was so happy.

Is it difficult to have sex with that many guys in one day?

No. I use KY.

Does the sex with customers feel good?

What? I don’t think about this. This is my work. I just make money for my family.

Where do most of your customers come from?

Here there are many foreigners. I have customers from Europe, Germany, France and Arab.

What do you with the customers?

Hey you already know. We take a bath then we make love.

Do you like your job? How long do you think you will work here?

It is okay. I like to help my family. I will build a house for my family and pay for my brother’s school. If I get married someday I might stop work. But one guy loves me now. He told me he will marry me but he won’t make me stop work.

Will you marry him?

Yes I want to. I told him to go meet my family. I am waiting for him now.

Hera’s Massage is a popular erotic massage parlor on Sukhumvit Soi 33 in Bangkok. The place doesn’t necessarily stand out, though it is known by a large number of guys. The shop is on a street that some refer to as “Soi Japan.” The same strip is also home to other well known erotic massage parlors like Mitu Massage and Dozo.

To be honest, I am not sure totally sure why Hera’s Massage is so popular. As far as I can tell it doesn’t really stand out from any of its many competitors. The only feature I see that makes the place unique at all is its somewhat higher-than-normal price.

Sure Hera’s is less expensive than places like Doki Doki and the previously mentioned Mitu. But it doesn’t offer the same level of service as those places. Instead, Hera’s is like an oily massage parlor with a premium price tag.

Hera’s Massage in Bangkok

As stated, Hera’s is located on Soi 33. It is about 200 meters up from Sukhumvit Road on the right hand side. There are a few signs in front of the shop that are easy to see from the road. But the place is not totally obvious in a way that everyone walking by would know what goes on inside.

Through the glass doors the place has a large white lobby. There are some couches against the exterior wall and a desk to the right. The female manager has a basic menu which shows the various services available. The most standard is probably the 60 minute session which costs 2400 Baht ($78 USD). This is three to four hundred more than most Bangkok oily massage parlors charge. On the other hand it is 600 Baht less than an hour at Doki Doki.

The available women on staff are called to lineup when a customer comes in. Supposedly there are a lot of ladies at Hera’s. But I have never seen more than five gals lined up at the same time in the shop. Most are decidedly average in looks, though their uniforms do looks nice. They tend more toward a light skin look and a few have had obvious nose jobs. Under their uniforms, many have tattoos and obvious signs of previous pregnancies.

At Hera’s massage payment has to be rendered before the service. It is paid at the desk up front. Then the service provider takes the customer up a flight of stairs to one of several rooms. The rooms are private enough though they have glass windows as seen in Saigon massage parlors like Minh Minh Tam. The windows are quickly covered up once people are in their rooms however.

Sensual service and summary

Each room at Hera’s has a bed with a sheet, a mirror on the wall, and a moderately sized bath tub. The tubs seem to be kept rather clean. And the rooms in general are not too bad. But the sheets may not be the most hygienic bed coverings around as they are frequently stained. This is actually not uncommon in oily massage parlors but one might expect more due to the location and higher price tag.

At any place with multiple providers on staff there will be variation in the way things are done. One session can also vary from the next depending on the people involved and the way they interact. These are just basic facts. Oily massage parlors are quite common in some parts of Thailand. Not to be confused with traditional or “legitimate” Thai massage shops, the oilies offer erotic massage with happy ending. In some cases, they don’t even bother with the actual massage at all.

No matter how the pricing is done however, the typical rate is right around 2000 Baht ($65 USD) for an hour long session with full service.

Some shops might charge 2100 or even more for an hour. And you might even see some that still charge 1800, though they are increasingly rare. Typically the ladies get 1500 Baht for their work, and the house keeps the rest. So anything over 1500 Baht normally goes to the shop. It used to be that guys always paid on the way out. But these days a lot of shops want guys to pay up front.

A full service session normally starts with both the lady and the customers showering. From there the lady normally gives the guy a blowjob. Then they have sex with a condom. Some ladies will do more or less depending on any number of things. And shops are more explicit than others about what exactly they offer. But this is the most basic explanation of what a session in an oily is like.

The smaller 24/1 contains to the famous Cherry Massage along with several other oily parlors including CamCam, Angel 26, Sweet Mango and more. Soi 26 is home to the legendary Snow White, Dream Heaven and others. These are just a few of the many oily massage parlors in Bangkok.

Oily massage parlors can also be found in other parts of Thailand. But they aren’t as common. Shops like Mossa Hue in Chiang Mai could vaguely be described as oily massage parlors. What is a barfine or “bar fine”? It is a simple enough question. And the answer can be simplified too. But there really is more to it than just a single line definition of the type you would expect to see in a dictionary.

After covering the commercial sex industry all over the world, I realize that there are some basic concepts that I have not explained. For those who are well versed in the pay for play scene, this sort of thing can seem like second nature. But for many people around the world, phrased like “barfining a woman” may seem out of the norm. So I will tell you what exactly a barfine is here.

What is a barfine?

Basically, a barfine is a payment given to a bar to release a woman on staff from work early. In fact, barfines are also referred to as “early work release” or EWR in some parts of the Philippines. In other places it is called an exit fee or salida. No matter the name, the general idea is that a customer gives a bar money in order to make up for lost income.

For example, let’s say a bar pays a gal they employ a base salary of $300 USD per month. Then they set a barfine at $10 USD. If the lady wants to leave work early one day to go out with a customer, the bar receives $10 to make up for the $10 in daily salary they paid out.

Of course in practice, things don’t always work out so logically. There are places with barfines in place that don’t even pay salaries. There are also places that charge barfines for customers who want to have sex with women on premises. In those cases, the gals don’t even leave the place. So obviously the bar doesn’t lose any money. The owners just want to get a cut of the action. Or they charge for something like cleaning or use of a private room.

Now that you know what a barfine actually is, let me explain some of the specifics. There are local peculiarities to barfines in various parts of the world. In some cases, barfines are exactly what they are purport to be. In other places, they’re clearly just a way for a place to make money. Prices and procedures vary from one place to another too.

Barfines in Thailand

Barfines are charged at most bars with women in Thailand. In beer bars they are usually between 300 and 500 Baht. In go go bars, prices can range from 600 to 3000 Baht depending on the city, the bar, and in some cases the “class” of the woman.

Barfines are paid up front in Thailand. In some cases they are negotiable or change. For example, some Pattaya go go bars charge a higher barfine before midnight or some other time. They do this to keep more women in the bars, thus giving them more potential to bring in customers and make money on drinks.

Some Pattaya go go bars also have different barfines for short time and long time. They charge less to guys who just want to spend two hours with a girl from the bar. Theoretically, the ladies will return to the bar afterward. Long time bar fines are higher, these bars say, because the women leave for the entire night. These sorts of tiered barfines are much less common in go go bars in Chiang Mai and Bangkok.

Barfines can occasionally be found at other establishments in Thailand. But they aren’t always as common. For example, some of the blowjob bars like Lolita’s in Bangkok set very high barfines because they prefer that the ladies work full shifts. Others like Wood Bar have a less expensive barfine as it is more routine for the ladies they employ to go out with customers.

Hostess Bar barfines

Bar fines exist in Cambodia too. Hostess bars in Phnom Penh charge barfines ranging from $6 to $15 dollars. The barfines are usually set and don’t fluctuate according to the time of day or anything else. Some places will even negotiate over barfines or simply wave them entirely for guys who spend a lot of money on drinks. A few of the KTV places in Cambodia also levy a fee on guys who want to leave with a lady on staff.

The hostess bars of Ho Chi Minh City sometimes have barfines, but it is now less common than it used to be. After a number of places were raided and closed years ago, many new bars have opened without any kind of barfine or work release. The ladies just work for drinks and tips. And if they do want to meet a guy outside of the bar, they simply wait until after they finish their shift. There are exceptions. An increasing number of bars around the Bui Vien backpacker strip have an unofficial barfine system in place, though the rates are negotiable and often include payment for the ladies.

Salidas in Latin America

Some places in Latin America have a salida system in place. Customers pay a fee to the bar if they want to leave with a lady on staff. This used to be common at several bars in Sosua, but that was before major changes that took place a few years ago. Nowadays most ladies there freelance, or work on their own.

Salidas are still paid in other areas though. That includes bars like Lalo’s International in Bogota, strip clubs with women who have sex with customers like Fase II in Medellin, and strip clubs in the Dominican cities of Puerto Plata and Santiago.

Early Work Release in the Philippines

Barfines are common at go go bars all across the Philippines. But they differ from one city to the next. For whatever reason, bars in different cities have adopted their own barfine models. And they usually stick to them.

As stated above, barfines are often referred to as “early work release” at go go bars in Angeles City. Apparently this is aimed at adapting to local regulations. Although they are sometimes higher, the barfines at go go bars in Manila do not include payment for the ladies. So on P Burgos Street and in the EDSA Entertainment Complex, customers pay barfines at the bars then give the women they take out their own money later.

Day and Night Bar Complex is one of two major adult entertainment centers in Udon Thani. Located just a short jaunt from the large Central shopping mall complex and several hotels, the place is obvious and easy to find. The open air center is lined with beer bars staffed by women who drink with customers and often times leave the bars with guys willing to pony up some dough.

Beer bars are common in most any part of Thailand that sees its share of farang. The existence of these establishments is often in direct proportion to the number of westerners that can be found. So cities like Pattaya are filled with beer bars while less visited town like Ubon Ratchathani have none.

Day and Night in Udon

The Day and Night bar complex is located just north of the guest friendly Pannarai Hotel on Soi Samphan Thamit. There is a large sign in English near the entrance of the bar. The large arched roof over the complex is reminiscent of the modern Nana Entertainment Complex in Bangkok. But inside the place feels a lot more like the beer bar complex around the Loi Kroh Boxing Stadium in Chiang Mai.

The interior of the Day and Night complex is large and spacious with bars on both sides. The place extends back quite a distance from the road. There are around twenty beer bars inside Day and Night. They have names like G Spot, Fifty Fifty, Chill Out Club, Ohh La La, Enjoy and Lucky.

Day and Night officially opens at noon. While some of the bars open their doors at the time the place doesn’t really get going until closer to dusk. Ladies can be found in the bars starting in the early afternoon but the majority show up later in the day. Yet the place still draws in people while the sun in shining thanks to a sizeable expat community and things like pool tables that are free to use. Of course the women are still the main draw.

Women, drink prices and barfines

As stated, beer bars are common across Thailand. They tend to be among the most economical of the adult entertainment venues. In Udon Thani that is even more the case. Drinks and lady drinks alike are reasonably priced. But at just 300 Baht ($10 USD), the barfines at the beer bars in Udon Thani are probably the cheapest to be found anywhere in the country.

The women don’t ask for an arm and a leg either. Although there are some women who only work for lady drinks and tips, most gals at Day and Night seem eager to go out with guys who ask for short or long time sessions. The typical rates expected are 1000 Baht ($33 USD) for short time and 2000 Baht for an overnight. This puts the prices on par with those of the infamous Soi 6 in Pattaya in terms of short sessions. For long time sessions these are some of the lowest prices in the country.

In some cases, barfines aren’t paid at all. That’s because some guys simply wait for the bars to close at midnight before taking a lady elsewhere. A few of the bars keep going after officially closing hours however. Sometimes they pull down their gates part way, though you can still see what goes on inside.

There are many women working the bars of Day and Night Complex. They range in looks. The majority are probably in their twenties and slim, but there are all sorts of gals to be found. Some are quite large and a few quite aged. There are also several ladyboys mixed in with the staff at some of the bars. But generally speaking the ladies at Day and Night are no older or less attractive on average than the gals found in the beer bars of Bangkok or Pattaya. Huff Post is another website that you may or not agree with. Started by Arianna Huffington, the site is widely considered to be an American liberal outlet. For our purposes the site is valuable because it gives significant coverage to sex work and related issues all around the world. Even I read the site regularly. If I didn’t, I would have missed out on the opening of the first ever brothel for people who don’t like human touch. What a loss that would have been!

Jerry Barnett is an advocate of free speech in the UK. I first found his work when he published a book called Porn Panic. That book is worth a read, and so is Mister Barnett’s site. It’s updated regularly, and a lot of the content covers the way censorship in many forms intertwines with an ongoing war on sex work and human sexuality in general.

I have been paying attention to Doctor Ley since I read his book The Myth of Sex Addiction in 2012. Doctor Ley has a lot of interesting and relevant things to say about sex. Often, he seems like a lone voice in the wilderness. But his material is no less right on the money, at least in most cases. Doctor Ley frequently writes at Psychology Today. A lot of his material there pertains to sex, non-monogamy, porn and popular misconceptions about sex addiction. It is certainly worth a look, as are the good doctor’s books.

And that’s the list for this year. Of course I still keep up with the active sites from previous years. I imagine that at least some of you do too. As times goes on I will keep looking for more relevant information regarding the commercial sex industry around the world. But the actual name of the shop is only displayed in the Thai language.

There is nothing that makes Chai Ya Prek obviously stand out from other shops including some just steps away. It is the women on staff that would draw anyone into this place, and probably most others like it. At any given time there can be between two and five women on staff. Yet only one or two are usually found seated out front.

Staff and services

At many shops with multiple women on staff there is a range in looks. But at Chai Ya Prek it can be extreme. It’s not out of the norm to find two wrinkled women approaching fifty years of age alongside two other attractive gals in their early twenties. The ladies seem to know who to approach too. For instance one might call out to a younger and better looking lady when a certified “handsome man” come strolling by the shop.

Inside the shop has a small lobby with a few chairs. Beyond there there is a small yet long room to the right with mattresses along the floor. Yet the place doesn’t compare with any of the more direct erotic establishments in the city and the asking prices can be high for the area. One-and-a-half stars.

Soapy massage parlors can be found all over Thailand. They employ women who wash customers from head to toe. On top of that, they usually offer customers oral and full service sex as a matter of course. In some places, the ladies also cover their bodies with soapy suds and slide all over their customers to add to the eroticism.

Thai soapy massage parlors are at least to some degree like the soaplands of Japan. But the soapies in Thailand tend to be bigger and more elaborate. They are also known for having “fishbowls” where the women on staff sit and wait to be selected by customers. The Japanese soaplands are perhaps more known for their service. But the soapy massage parlors tend to be larger and more elaborate, with some even resembling five star hotels.

For whatever reason, farang in Thailand seem to prefer go go bars and oily parlors to the soapies. Soapy massage parlors in Thailand are among the most popular adult entertainment venues for Thai guys and other Asian visitors. They have a reputation for hiring more attractive women and being more service minded. Some guys even go to these places for business meetings. That’s certainly one way to seal a deal.

How soapy massage parlors work

As stated soapy massage parlors usually have a “fishbowl” filled with the women on staff. These are basically large area with bench seating. The term fishbowl comes from the glass windows that separate the ladies from the customers. But some modern soaplands don’t have any glass partition. And some also have alternative seating areas outside of the fishbowls.

After customers walk in, they normally sit down in one a number of comfortable chairs. Many soapies even have wait staff and full drink menus. So guys can hang around and have a drink while they look over the ladies and perhaps have a chat with one of the male managers. The managers know the prices. And they should know something about the ladies too, though some of these “papasans” are clearly much more knowledgeable and helpful than others.

Prices at Thai soapy massage parlors can vary from 1300 Baht all the way up into the tens of thousands. The normal rate is usually around 2000 Baht ($65 USD). Higher rates are usually charged for women called “models”. The highest rates are usually reserved for actual working models and actresses. In addition, a few soapies in Thailand have a “foreigner tax” in place, which means charge farang more than Thai customers.

After paying, customers are lead to the private rooms. Soapy massage parlors have large rooms that contain big beds, bath tubs, and televisions. Some are nicer than others, but they all serve the same purpose.

These days, a standard soapy massage session starts with a bath. The provider and customer undress and get into a tub. The provider washes the customers body, then washes herself. The better women usually give a bit of a blowjob during the bath, or at least do a bit of erotic tugging. Next things move to the bed. There guys typically get a blowjob followed by full intercourse in multiple positions. Then there is another bath before the session ends.

Ladies and extra services

With so many soapy massage parlors in Thailand, there’s no way to characterize all the soapy massage staff members. Generally speaking the women are in their twenties and attractive. They tend to have lighter skin and quite a few have had nose or breast enhancements. Some are thinner or better looking than others. In some places less attractive, larger and older ladies can also be found. It really varies from one place to the next.

Some of the older ladies can be more skilled than others. It’s also true that some ladies will do more than others. Sometimes this comes down to the shop and other times it comes down to the individual providers. For example, there are soapies where blowjobs are usually done with a condom. Yet some of the ladies inside will provide oral without cover in particular cases.

Things like a cum in mouth finish are rare. Unprotected intercourse is also very rare, though there are at least some women who do it from time to time. Anal is almost never offered in any soapy massage parlor. And things like deepthroating aren’t very common either.

The body to body soapy slide that soapy massage parlors are known for are actually somewhat rare too. In most soapies this service simply isn’t provided anymore. The places where it is standard have their own special wet areas for the soapy slide. And they usually have inflatable mats to slide around on too. Other places just do a quick dip then get on with the sex.

There are also sideliners who work in some Thai soapy massage parlors. These gals show up at the parlors on their own accord. They usually sit away from the fishbowl and the official staff. The sideliners aren’t normally known for being skilled service providers. But they are sometimes more attractive than some of the soapy veterans. So they can be popular. Sideliners do full service but they are very unlikely to do soapy slides or anything else that’s considered “special”.

Soapy massage parlor locations

Soapy massage parlors can be found in almost every major city in Thailand. As the capital and largest city, Bangkok is home to more soapies than any other part of Thailand. But soapies can also be found around the country, even some of the sleepy centers of Isaan.

Pattaya is home to a number of soapy massage parlors. They are among the biggest and most accepting venues in the city, with some even going out of their way to cater to female customers and couples. Sabai Dee and Sabai Room both offer soapy body to body slides along with everything else. The slightly newer Honey Massage also offers the soapy slide and full service, though at slightly higher rates. Rasputin doesn’t provide mat play as a matter or course but it employs arguably better looking women.

Chiang Mai has a handful of soapy massage parlors. Sayuri Complex is one of the oldest soaplands in the city. It is also one of the most popular. They employ several women but the rooms are frankly a little worn and weird. The more centrally located Celebrities Shower Massage charges less yet has somewhat nicer facilities.

Udon Thani is home to two soapy massage parlors. Oscar is a big soapy parlor in a worn down building. But it staffs several attractive women who bring in their share of customers. The eighth floor of the Grand Naga Hotel is home to another soapy massage that bills itself as a model club. The good looking women who work their charge 2000 Baht ($65 USD) per session.

Even Ubon Ratchathani has a couple of soapies. Long Beach closed some time ago, but there are still two big soapy complexes in town. Palace is a big place with a meager 1300 Baht asking rate. The place has seen better days and there are only a couple of ladies on staff. But they provide the expected service. Atami Soapy Massage is much bigger and more popular. The place is also nicer too since it was refurbished.

Ultimately no city can compare to Bangkok when it comes to soapy massage. Even after some legendary venues like Ocean and The Lord have been shuttered, the city is still home to a large number of soapies. Many are concentrated around Huay Kwang, but others are scattered all over.

Poseidon is one of the biggest and most well known soapy massage parlors in Thailand. Their facilities are very large, and they have a tiered staff system. The models sitting up on the third floor charge several thousand Baht for service, and they stay busy constantly. La Belle in the Phetchaburi area staffs some of the best looking babes of any soapy. They also have some of the nicest rooms around since The Lord closed its doors. Emannuelle is one of the places that puts a premium price on foreigners. They charge farang an extra 1000 Baht on top of their already high prices.

There are many more soapy massage parlors in Thailand. Some are in the cities mentioned above. Others are in different parts of the country like Ubon Thani and Phuket. I will continue to review soapy massage parlors in Thailand as time goes on. But for now, this should give you a good idea of where these places are located and what they’re like inside.

Depending on whom you ask, the Republic of Georgia may be either a European or an Asian country. In my informed opinion it’s a mixture of both, with European influences clearly being stronger. Some will disagree.

What’s not up for debate is that Georgia is one of the most conservative societies to be found on either continent. Women are expected to be (or at least look like) virgins upon marriage. Foreign guys are often denied entry to night clubs. There just isn’t a whole lot of extra-marital action going on in Georgia, doubly so for outsiders.

Still, a small adult entertainment scene exists in the country, employing foreign women. There are prostitutes in Georgia like anywhere else — just not local girls. The lonely traveler who should come to resent the frigid nature of Georgian womanhood may be able to find solace in the arms of a Turkish or Thai woman, against adequate remuneration.

A few weeks ago I reported on prostitution in the seaside resort of Batumi. Today I will write what I know about sexual services in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia and by most measures the only major city in the country. As usual, I write to inform and entertain but do not advocate that anyone do anything in particular with the information herein.

Prostitutes in Tbilisi

Thai massage parlors are ubiquitous in Tbilisi. As long as you are staying in the city center, you can walk in any direction and sooner or later you will stumble upon one. They tend to be very visible, with colorful neon lights blinking in the otherwise dimly lit streets of the city. Some are just honest to goodness massage joints, without any extras. Others specialize in happy endings.

Unlike in Batumi, the Thai masseuses in Tbilisi are hesitant to discuss the subject in advance. This is perhaps due to the much larger and more granular police presence. Prostitution is illegal in Georgia. Trial and error is the name of the game. An hour-long massage is only 70 GEL ($25 USD), so you won’t be gambling away your life savings or anything. Counter-intuitively, the parlors in the Old Town — the main tourist district — are less likely to provide extras than those in other parts of the city. I hit the jackpot in a venue at walking distance from the Opera House, but I won’t give out the address out of consideration for the girls working there.

Turkish massage parlors can also be found in different areas of Tbilisi. They tend to be more reliable than their Thai counterparts in terms of extra services. They often have a lone woman standing outside of the shop on the sidewalk, trying to get the attention of male passersby. If you are ever catcalled by a Caucasian woman on the streets of Tbilisi, you can safely assume that she is not Georgian, but rather you wandered into the vicinity of a Turkish massage shop. As mentioned there are many such places scattered around, but if one were to seek them out, a good place to start would be Tbilisi’s own Turkish neighborhood, on the eastern side of the Mtkvari river and in the northern part of the city.

Strip clubs and sex saunas in Tbilisi

Tourists and visitors that stay near the Old Town, on the opposite side of the river, are more likely to take notice of two prominent strip clubs called Angels and X.O.. The latter is supposed to mean “hugs and kisses“. One night I was able to catch a glimpse of a lady working at Angels as she took a break from the stage, and she was the stereotypical East European babe: tall, blonde, and full of silicon.

Fans of artificially enhanced breasts and pouty lips may be tempted to venture into either venue, in which case they will find out for themselves how much a lap dance with Barbie costs in Tbilisi. As for me, I believe some questions are better left unanswered and I never quite found the motivation to stop by either club. The bulky Georgian bouncers may have also played a role.

Also in the tourist district, further south, are some fairly large and picturesque sulphur bathhouses. They are referred to as “royal baths” on some maps and they are visited by tourists and locals alike. I have come across a webpage in English (written by a foreign woman, apparently) hinting at the fact that some of those bathhouses may be fronts for prostitution. However my limited experience contradicts those claims, which may or may not be exaggerated — similar to how prostitution in Cambodia is sometimes over-scandalized by some Western women for dramatic effect.

Said article mentions a place called Hotel Lady, which is supposed to come with pink-painted walls, be on top of a bathhouse and provide prostitutes to male customers, the rendezvous taking place in the bathhouse itself. Despite my best efforts I was not able to locate Hotel Lady anywhere in Tbilisi, so it was either shuttered or it changed name. The description seems a little too vivid for it to be a fabrication. Another possibility is that I really suck at locating places… which is why I’m dropping the name here all the same, in case some readers have better luck than me.

Since I still wanted to go to a bathhouse and see what the fuss is about, but without any reliable info to help me, I ended up visiting a place called Queens Bath. The name was ambiguous enough, I reasoned, and there were dodgy Georgian guys hanging around the front door, which I took as another good sign. Unfortunately I wasn’t treated to any kind of sexual activity. Whether or not the saunas in Tbilisi should be of any interest to horny travelers is still a mystery to me, but this article wouldn’t feel complete if I didn’t mention those rumors. A persistent man with time and money to spare could theoretically visit every bathhouse in Tbilisi and get to the bottom of this.

Sex in Georgia: Myth or reality?

This concludes my underwhelming report on prostitution (or lack thereof) in Tbilisi. There may be more to the scene, but I doubt it. In any event, this is all I have been able to unearth after one month in the city, with no other language than English to aid me in my quest. All things considered, there may be more on offer in Batumi compared to the capital, although it’s a close call. Neither locale is awash with options. Georgia as a whole is as far from a “pussy paradise” as I have ever seen. With that said, there are certainly a few options around for the male traveler longing for female company, all of which I have detailed in my twin reports on Batumi and Tbilisi.

The clock has struck midnight and yet another year is upon us. Rockit Reports first went online in 2011. It is now 2020. They say time flies when you’re having fun. There have been ups and downs, but I continue to write here with the same motivations I started with. I hope to entertain readers with information about the commercial sex industry around the world.

I’ve been wishing regular readers of this website a happy new year for five of those years. In addition, I usually take the opportunity to give an update on this website and its plans going forward. This year I will do a more general update on the state of sex industry journalism. While this website has not changed much over the years, the environment it operates in surely has.

The sex industry and the internet

When this website was first launched there were few like it. In some ways there still aren’t many websites that are like Rockit Reports. But there are now plenty of websites covering the various aspects of the sex industry.

Don’t get me wrong. Sex has been a topic of discussion from the first days people used the internet. We all know that sex sells. And that sex is on the minds of a lot of people. The desire to watch porn famously influenced the adoption of VCRs and the VHS format.

But original reporting on specific aspects of the sex industry in an organized way was uncommon even a few years ago. Those who did write about the industry were usually on the margins and published through their own websites. Rockit Reports was no exception.

Early on some of the reports posted here caught on with readers and were quickly spread around the internet. That showed just how many people were interested in the subject. I figured that would be the case. The urge to shine light on things like blowjob bars was part of the reason I started this website. I found the subject absolutely intriguing. I figured others would too.

How sex industry reporting went mainstream

Quite a few mainstream sources have picked up information on this website and then reported it to a wider audience. In some cases they linked back or at least gave credit for the reporting. In other instances they didn’t. I was even offered opportunities to talk about the commercial sex industry on television networks with international range. No matter the outlet, the information was almost always presented in a sensational manner. It’s almost as if there are adults in this day and age who still can’t believe women exchange sexual services for money.

That is nothing new. Sensationalist reporting has been around almost as long as mass media. The major changes have come on the internet. There has been a sort of mainstreaming of reporting on the commercial sex industry. It is now possible to find out about brothels in exotic locations on some of the biggest websites in the world.

These days you can find untold numbers of sex shops on mainstream websites. Nuru massage parlors in Bangkok are pinpointed on Apple Maps and Google Maps. In the latter case they even come complete with user reviews. Go go bars in Pattaya and Red light districts in Amsterdam are featured on Trip Advisor with user comments. Algorithms and input from the general public has created a virtual database of sex industry information online.

I don’t expect Yahoo news to start running reviews of soaplands in Tokyo anytime soon. But I’m not surprised when I find information on those kinds of places and even more risque material on other mainstream websites like Facebook and Quora. That is the way things have been going for a while now.

Rockit is still reporting

Despite everything that has happened over the years, Rockit Reports continues to publish at least one new post per week. The publishing schedule has increased at times. But not a single week has gone by since late 2011 without at least one new post appearing on this website. It hasn’t always been easy. But it has always been done.

A few years ago a number of new sites sprung up with similar subjects. Some went as far as to pull content directly from this website. One did a great imitation of the layout and format. Another simply copied text directly from Rockit Reports without any indication of the original source. Then there were the webpages written by people who obviously had little to no actual experience with the subjects at hand.

The rise of such sites along with changes in the way sex industry venues were treated by mainstream websites and search engines may have had an influence on the visibility of this website. There were times in past years when traffic dipped or declined. But with time things have always turned around. That was true again last year. The number of people visiting the site dropped off in the middle of the year. Not long after it was stable and back to the higher levels seen in earlier years. So obviously people are still interested in what is being written here.

That is one of the biggest reasons I continue to press on with my work. I plan to continue reporting on the same regular schedule in the year ahead. I will write about new venues in places that have been covered here in the past. I also have my sights on some new areas that have not yet been covered here. I hope that readers will continue to visit the site and comment on the posts. I appreciate your time and your support.

Wonderland is a somewhat high end KTV in Phnom Penh. The area across the water from Diamond Island has been developing quickly since the first Aeon mall opened there in 2014. Now there are several high rise apartment buildings along with nightclubs, karaoke clubs, restaurants, massage parlors and plenty of Chinese businesses.

KTVs or karaoke clubs have been a staple of the adult entertainment scene throughout Asia for many years. While there are plenty of “family KTVs” where friends can gather to drink and have a good time, the karaoke clubs staffed by women are more prominent and well known. Wonderland fits the latter description.

I cannot be certain, but I believe that Wonderland popped up in 2016 when the local development was really starting to kick off. From the outside the place doesn’t look like much. Except for the signage and business suit wearing greeters who stand outside, it appears to be just another building. But inside the place is quite ostentatious and staffed by some very attractive ladies.

Wonderland KTV

Wonderland is located somewhere between the Russian embassy and bars like Bottoms Up. It’s pretty easy to find. The area is fairly quiet at night, at least in the streets. And these days these sorts of establishments can be instantly and easily pinpointed on maps in any modern smartphone.

As stated there are several guys in black suits who wait for customers to pull up outside. The executive level service starts from there as they open doors and even carry umbrellas when it rains. Of course all of this comes with a price, but it’s not always as high as one might expect when they first step inside of the place.

Through the doors there is a large and rather extravagant lobby. Some may even consider it to be well over the top in terms of decor and design. To the right of the door there is a full stage where a live band plays music to no one in particular. In front of that stage there are many lounge styles seats where several dozen women with immaculate hair, makeup and colorful cocktail dresses wait for customers to arrive.

Staff, prices and fees

The many women who work at Wonderland range in age from twenty to maybe thirty. Most appear to be on the lower end of that scale. There are many Cambodian women. But there are also Vietnamese and Thai ladies working at Wonderland. Most of them are attractive with some looking better than others. But even average ladies can look great when done up with effort.

As is common at similar venues in Cambodia, the staff at Wonderland is multilingual. Most of the customers appear to be Chinese or local. But other guys visit, including the occasional Westerner. Khmer, English, Vietnamese, Thai, Mandarin, and some other Chinese dialects can be heard at the place with some regularity. At least one lady working Wonderland also speaks French. Booking a room is thus not much for trouble for most people who enter.

Prices are rather clear for a KTV, but that is not necessarily saying much. There is a basic hourly room fee. But spending more than $100 USD eliminates that fee completely. Drinks are sold by the bottle for liquor or by 12 bottles when it comes to beer. To put things in perspective, twelve bottles of Corona costs about $70. Premium liquor can cost a lot more. Some snacks are provided, but other food comes with a fee. Unlike some KTVs, Wonderland isn’t out to scam anyone. They are upfront with the prices. They collect the total at the end. A visit can cost anywhere from a hundred to a few thousand dollars.

Of course the set fees are the only expenses at this or other KTVs like it. At Wonderland, there is usually a waiter or manager that comes to each room. On top of that there are at least two female attendants who run the karaoke setup, pour drinks and generally tend to customers. They can also join the festivities if invited. On top of that customers can invite as many ladies from the lobby inside as they would like. All of the attendants and ladies expect tips at the end of the session. There are no set rates, but guys usually give ten dollars or more to each attendant in the room. The same goes for the room manager. The ladies usually get a minimum of $50 for their company, and often much more than that.

Adventures in and out of Wonderland

I don’t know if there are any set rules at Wonderland when it comes to what goes on inside the rooms. If you asked you might hear that the places simply provides private rooms for singing. Of course a lot more than that happens. The ladies who provide company and sing are a lot like the women who work in the hostess bars. It’s not uncommon for guys to get close to them. Some light petting definitely isn’t out of the norm either. When the drinks really get flowing things could go further, and from what I’ve seen they sometimes do.

Despite this, things are in the main fairly mild compared to what goes on in some adult oriented bars and karaoke clubs throughout Asia. Cambodia is still a somewhat conservative place even though it doesn’t always appear that way. Especially inside of elaborate venues such as Wonderland. Guys meet working women and semi-pros in all sorts of places from restaurants to KTVs. But the intimate activity is for the most part done outside of those venues and behind closed doors.

There are no barfines at Wonderland. The business doesn’t participate in any private transactions made between the women who work there and the guys who patronize the place. But the women do go elsewhere with their clients on a regular basis. Normally they make their own arrangements. Then the ladies either leave with the guys at closing time or meet them somewhere else after their shift ends. Again there are no set rates as the ladies are free to negotiate their own compensation. But generally speaking the ladies who meet guys outside of the club for sex want a minimum of $200 USD.

Wonderland is a good example of a what the higher end KTV clubs in Cambodia are like. It’s not an inexpensive place by any means, but it’s hardly the priciest place in town. I’ve been told that a new blowjob bar is set to open in Bangkok in early 2020. This is more than a rumor. The new shop has already been constructed and fitted out. The signs are even up outside. Now it is just a matter of waiting for the place to open its doors.

Blowjob bars have long been a topic of interest on this website. I started writing about these suck shops many years ago when Rockit Reports began. The majority of the BJ in the world are located in Japan, Thailand and Vietnam.

In Vietnam the BJ bars mainly take two forms. First there are a handful of regular bars with special areas where the ladies suck customers for cash. I have reviewed every blowjob bar in Bangkok. The latest update to that coverage came when Som’s closed and relocated to the new Duangporn Heaven shop a few streets over. Before that I wrote about the end of the Lollipop before reviewing the new Number One Bar that took its place.

The new BJ bar opening in Bangkok will be the first totally new place in years. Except that it is not entirely new. Like many other similar shops this place has it rooms in another venue or two with a similar business model.

I don’t know the full details but I’ve been told that this new shop is being run by a gal who once worked at another blowjob bar nearby. That place was actually opened by a former employee of another similar shop located across Sukhumvit Road. So the new place is more deeply rooted than superficial appearances may imply.

The newest addition to the Bangkok BJ bar scene is called Tokyo 女学園 (Tokyo Jogakuen). It is right next door to the previously reviewed Hera’s massage parlor on Sukhumvit Soi 33. As the name and location suggest this will probably be a Japanese-style shop. Though I haven’t seen any indication that people from other places will be denied entry. The place already looks ready to go from the street. But it appears it will open in late January or early February. Time will tell.

Smooci and it’s “on demand escort” model really seems to be a success. The company launched in 2017. In the two years that have followed it has expanded around the globe. From its beginnings in Thailand, the site now has listings in cities as varied as Tokyo, Manila, London and Berlin. That list is set to get longer now with the addition of three new cities. I can’t say that I am totally surprised about Smooci’s growth. I didn’t expect it to spread so far and so fast. But as soon as I heard of the website and its services I had a feeling it would catch on. Last year I compared Smooci to once popular escort directories. As it turned out, Smooci has since added even more to its coverage. It makes sense. The website basically allows escorts to advertise to a dedicated customer base. Customers can then browse through a streamlined website that includes everything from verified pictures to full lists of services and prices. The main draw for both sides is the ability to book immediate sessions in a clear and straightforward way.

Smooci started out in Bangkok. Not long after it was operating in many other southeast Asian cities. The site now operates in Hong Kong, Macau, Manila, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. The addition of Angeles City, Cebu and Phnom Penh adds three more cities to that list that also includes places in East Asia and Europe. The truth is that it is no difficult task for a man to find a sex worker in most any of those cities. But that doesn’t get in the way of Smooci’s business model. Plenty of people obviously enjoy the ability to browse through escorts from the privacy of their own place. I am sure the verified pictures and reviews available to premium users also has a lot to do with the draw.

From what I have heard Smooci is also set to expand to Ho Chi Minh City and even Indonesia before the year ends. Clearly there is a big demand for their on demand model even or especially in parts of the world that have long been known to house a large number of sex workers. The internet is now involved in all aspects of daily life for billions of people. As time goes on that will only continue. Increasingly things related to sex and human sexuality are also going online. Smooci was at the forefront of connecting customers with escorts through the internet and it follows that they would continue to grow. But who knew they would grow so quickly and widely?

Smooci’s new discounts

Perhaps as a sign of their success or simply an enlightened business practice Smooci is now offering discounts to premium members. Those with premium accounts can receive discounts between three and fifteen dollars when they make a booking. The premium service is already inexpensive with short memberships costing as little as $9.99 USD. The Smooci site is of course totally free to use. But premium accounts do come with a lot of added features. So there shouldn’t be any of the phony testimonials all too common among escort discussions online. Premium members can also chat with the escorts who are listed on the website. So premium members can quickly have their questions answered or even negotiate on prices.

Premium members at Smooci can also view verified photographs of the people who advertise on the website. Since so many pictures online are heavily edited this is a real innovation that is difficult to find elsewhere. Verified customers who have made bookings are able to tell whether photographs are accurate or not. The Smooci site than concentrates this feedback in one easy to see place. For many this could even be the main draw of the premium service the Smooci people provide.

Finally Smooci premium account holders are able to view offline escorts and make bookings as far as 24 hours in advance. This is something that regular casual users cannot do. Some popular escorts may become fully booked out as soon as they go online. Guys with premium memberships are able to get in touch with them beforehand to avoid that possibility. This too could be a major draw for a lot of customers who spend the money for a premium account. And that like the rise and expansion of Smooci is totally understandable for those of us who pay attention.
