Ore no 26 is a Japanese owned massage parlor in Bangkok. It seems to be little known by Westerners though it is popular with Japanese and other Asian guys. They may appear to be by design. Everything from the name of the shop to its promotions are done in Japanese. But that really just reflects the management of the place. Farang guys are just as welcome inside as guys from the land of the rising sun.

The name “Ore no 26” basically means “my 26”. There are different ways to say “I” or “me” in Japanese. Some relate to levels of formality or intimacy. Ore is a word that guys can use with close friends. So the name is sort of like saying, “hey guys, welcome to my place on Soi 26.” At least that’s what I take away from it as a non-native speaker.

If I am correct it would make sense since the massage parlor is run by a rather jovial Japanese guy. He also seems to be in charge of a handful of other places with similar setups and reputations. He does plenty of promotion on his own online that is all in Japanese. But if he happens to be inside a place when non-Japanese punters show up he is quite welcoming and hospitable.

Ore no 26 massage

Ore no 26 is not exactly right out in the open. But it is not difficult to find either. As the name and the above would suggest the shop is located on Sukhumvit Soi 26. More precisely it is located inside the third small alley to the right when traveling south from Sukhumvit. The main obstacle to locating the place is spotting the sign in a sea of lights and words. The front of the shop isn’t all that big either. But Ore no 26 is there where all the maps say it is.

Inside the place has a rather small and somewhat cluttered lobby. A euphemistic real estate agent might describe it as “cozy” and “lived in”. There are comfortable chairs along the left side and a place in back for the receptionist to sit. The ladies on staff come out and line up against the right wall while customers sit in the chairs and look them over.

A wide variety of services are available. They are all detailed on a price list that is presented to customers. The cheapest service comes in the form of a twenty minute handjob course for 1000 Baht ($33 USD). The most expensive is a ninety minute full service massage for 2700 Baht ($89 USD). A standard 65 minute full service course runs 2500 Baht ($83 USD) which is around the standard for these kinds of places today.

Services and summary

There are several types of erotic massage parlors in Thailand including oily massage and soapy massage shops. But things can be classified further. In Bangkok there are some places that follow what could vaguely be described as an “East Asian” model. In these East Asian style places the staff tends to be closer to the Asian idea of beauty meaning taller, thinner and lighter skin. The service in these places also tends to be quite customer oriented. The women basically perform a service while the customers sit back and relax.

Another model could perhaps be described as more “western”. These places tend to staff women further from the idea of beauty common to Asia. The Tantra Massage shop is easy to find yet rather discreet. The place is conveniently located just off one of the largest roads in all of Thailand. And it has clear signage on the store front that cleary spells out “Tantra Massage II” in English. Yet the shop could easily be overlooked by those not seeking it out. In other words, it is unlikely that many would know what went on inside the shop simply by looking at the exterior. There’s nothing about the shop that screams “this is an erotic massage parlor”. For many visitors that is probably a positive.

Tantra Massage at Nana

As stated, the Tantra Massage II shop is quite easy to find. There are usually some gals hanging around outside to make things even easier. They’re a friendly and welcoming bunch who are always seem eagerto work. Yet tho their credit they don’t resort to screaming at guys who are simply walking by.

Kazy Kozy is one of the newest go go bars in Bangkok. Yet the Soi Cowboy agogo is already one of the most well known or perhaps even infamous bars in the city. That’s due mostly to its close relations with the Crazy House go go bar around the corner. Kazy Kozy joins Crazy House as some of the only bars in Bangkok with a full staff of full nude dancers.

The level of nudity in the Bangkok go go bars seems to fluctuate over the years. First women danced in dresses. Not long after it was common to see full nude dancers and even the insertion of things like bottles and ping pong balls. Then things went the other way and women started covering up. In recent years it has been easy enough to see topless dancers at places like Erotica. And there are also some fully nude women doing shower shows in bars like Butterflies and Billboard in Nana Plaza. But most of the women in most of the go go bars don’t wear less than a bikini these days.

Crazy House has long stood out as a place where fully nude dancing was the norm. And things rarely stopped there. It’s nothing to see lasses in their birthday suits interacting with customers in all sorts of ways inside of the Crazy House. The word was that Kazy Kozy would be more of the same once it got going. So of course I had to investigate.

Kazy Kozy on Soi Cowboy

I’ve heard that Kazy Kozy is some sort of Thai take on the phrase “crazy cozy”. I am not sure if that is true and it doesn’t make a lot of sense in any case. Unless of course they are using the word cozy as a euphemism like real estate agents who don’t want to admit that a place they’re selling is actually just cramped and small. And crazy in an ironic sense.

Kazy Kozy is located right on Soi Cowboy. It took over the space from the Old Dutch restaurant. Previously the rumor was that Crazy House was located just outside of Soi Cowboy because it had fully nude dancers. That never made much sense either as you could always find nudity and more on Soi Cowboy.

Whatever the case may be, Kazy Kozy does have a full entourage of nude ladies. Though unlike the old days at Crazy House, the gals don’t stay naked all the time. They’re more likely to drop their tops or get into their birthday suits only while on the stage. Then they get dressed again when it’s time to leave. A significant number don’t seem to get naked at all.

Kazy Kozy looks alright at first glance, but on further inspection it is very poorly designed. There is a large stage in the middle but the seating for customers consists of two rows of bench seating around the world. The back level is the only seating that is really usable however. The front row is close to the stage and the only area people have to walk. So sitting there is like inviting countless dancers, servers and customers to trample all over your feet.

Neither crazy nor cozy

To make matters worse, a large motorcycle is rather strangely fixed right in the middle of the stage. It is the full width of the the elevated area. So in order to get from one side of the stage to the other, the dancers are forced to crawl over the big bike. This might sound like something sexy. It isn’t.

I don’t see a whole lot to like about Kazy Kozy. Or at least nothing that makes the place any more of a draw than other bars in the area, including the Crazy House itself. Drinks are on the expensive side at 180 Baht ($6 USD) a glass. Lady drinks are of course even more, especially when the gals order a double at 380 Baht ($13 USD). The barfine is 850 Baht ($28 USD). The gals are free to negotiate their own rates, but the mamasan pushes customers to pay the barfine and 3000 Baht compensation up front for short time.

And what about the ladies themselves? Obviously they are the main draw at this and any other go go bar in the country. There are definitely a lot of women working at Kazy Kozy. They range in appearance as you might expect. There are no overly large ladies that I saw. But there are many women working the bar who could be described as average looking at best. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder and one man’s beauty is another man’s beast. But my rather experienced eyes didn’t spy any ladies that would prompt guys to make a special trip. Especially with so many other bars around.

Nor did I see anything all that crazy. Certainly the place was a lot milder than Crazy House in terms of interactions between customers and the women working the bar. The only thing even slightly out of the norm for a bar of the sort are the periodic shows which seem to be a staple of the new approach. These involve things like watching two naked women dance slowly and pour hot wax on their bodies and tongues for an extended period of time. I guess this is a draw for some. But during one such show I saw at least half of the customers inside call for a bill and leave. One-and-half stars.

Daisy Dream is one of the newest massage parlors in Bangkok. Yet it is also one of the most notable. Almost instantly the place gained notoriety for the elaborate design and decoration that lines the interior of its otherwise unassuming building on Soi 33. But in the time since opening Daisy Dream has become more well known for staffing a large number of skilled lovely ladies who offer a luxury level of service.

Of course there is no shortage of massage parlors in Bangkok. Especially these days as it seems new places are opening all the time. Some entire streets are not lined with massage parlors on both sides. Yet it is quite easy for the places to all sort of blend in with one another. A guy may even forget where he was just a day or two before as many shops are nearly identical.

That is certainly not the case with Daisy Dream. I don’t think anyone could forget the place after a single visit. It really stands out from the crowd like few other places can. In that it joins the ranks of a handful of high end massage parlors that have opened in Bangkok in recent years. Yet it is not nearly the most expensive place in town. This just goes to show that that price doesn’t always reflect quality. In other words the best places aren’t always the most expensive. And vice versa.

Location and setting

As mentioned earlier Daisy Dream is located on Sukhumvit Soi 33. Traveling north from Sukuhmvit Road proper it is located at the end of the third short soi on the right. So it lies between the previously reviewed 7Heaven pink salon which is closer to Sukhumvit Road and Dozo Massage which is further up Soi 33. There is very clear signage on the strip that holds Daisy Dream so the shop is quite easy to see. In any even the side sois are very short and the shop can actually be spotted even from Soi 33 itself.

Entering the Daisy Dream stop is a bit like stepping into another world. The inside of the shop is very well appointed with an Asiatic decoration style that really has to be seen to be appreciated. Although it looks very good it is also somehow welcoming and comfortable. Nice private seating lines the wall while the multilingual female Thai manager welcomes customers from her station towards the end of the room. More on her later.

The rooms at Daisy Dream are just as nicely done as the main lobby. They are perhaps a bit more sparse but that is by design. Form must fit with function after all. A good example is the jacuzzi rooms which are organized with service in mind. Along with the bubbling bath they are fitted with purpose made inflatable mats for nuru massage.

Of course the decorations aren’t the draw for customers at a massage parlor. Though they can help set the scene they are just a backdrop for the staff and services that a place has to offer. Suffice it to say that Daisy Dream didn’t stop putting in work when it came to laying out the place. That is reflected in the women who work at the shop and the way they approach their clients and their work.

Nuru massage and more

Nuru massage has become popular all over the world. Originating in Japan the service basically consists of a skilled therapist sliding her body over and against a customers with the aid of a very slippery nuru lotion. Real nuru lotion is made from seaweed. And real nuru massage therapists are skilled at using it. These days there are a lot of people and shops claiming to provide nuru massage to pull in customers even though they use substandard gel and employ unskilled staff. At Daisy Dream the women know exactly what they are doing when it comes to nuru massage. And they use the authentic nuru gel as seen in Japan.

On top of the nuru massage the staff at Daisy Dream also offers a more traditional erotic massage. This service would be familiar to anyone who has been to an oily massage parlor in Thailand. The difference is the level of service and the surroundings which reflect it.

Ever session in a place like this can take on a life of its own. And rarely are any two sessions the same. But generally speaking the women bathe their customers from head to toe in a way that is erotic and alluring. As well placed touching gets things going sessions then usually proceed into oral followed by covered full service in multiple positions. There are several dozen women working at Daisy Dream overall. In fact the shop might have one of the largest staffs I have ever seen in a Thai place of this kind outside of the large soapy massage parlors. Of course all of the women do know show up simultaneously but rather filter in and out throughout the day as is the norm in many such places.

The prime time for the shop seems to be between 4 and 10 o’clock when it comes to staff. Between those hours it is normal to walk in and find more than thirty available women. Although the shop lobby is quite large and long the lineups actually stretch from one side to another. There are that many women working!

Although the place is popular it is never overrun with customers either. It is common to run into other guys in the lobby area. But I would never walk in and expect to be unable to find a seat. I definitely wouldn’t expect to walk in and be told that there were no women available either. The staff numbers then match up nicely with the actual customers base.

There are many women working at Daisy Dream so customers always have a choice of service providers. Yet there isn’t such an overabundance of women that the gals would go without customers and try to find work somewhere else either. This sort of balance is difficult to strike which can explain why so many Bangkok massage parlors these days may have only two or three gals on hand when a guy walks in off the street.

Service providers on staff

The aforementioned Thai woman who runs the front end of the shop was formerly a mamasan over at the Ginza go go bar on Walking Street in Pattaya. Apparently she brought quite a few gals with her when she switched over to working at Daisy Dream. Those gals were joined by even more thanks to a rigorous recruitment drive by the shop. When the place first opened it had just a handful of women as may be expected. By now things have really changed.

Even in what might be considered off hours there are many women working at the shop. At noon when the doors first open for the day there are usually ten or more ladies there. So even when some are busy in the rooms with other customers I would never expect to walk in and not see several gals waiting for clients.

From what I have seen the ladies all look good too. I haven’t seen any elderly or vastly overweight women at Daisy Dream. Although it may seem strange to the unaccustomed the same simply cannot be said of many massage parlors in Bangkok and the rest of the country. Indeed all the gals I have seen at Daisy Dream are pretty and proportionate. Perhaps more importantly the gals all seem to be quite talented when it comes to their work.

Services and prices

There is a lot of discussion about people who observe and participate in the industry when it comes to prices at places like this. For years the standard at oily massage parlors was that an hour or so of full service cost around 2000 Baht. But those oily massage parlors were mostly just converted shop houses with mattresses and maybe a shower in the corner. So when nicer places with specially trained staff started appearing it only made sense that they would charge more. The biggest issue is that some of the mediocre or even run down shops took that as a sign that they too should increase their rates without improving their shops or service. Or expanding or training their staff.

As I wrote earlier the prices at Daisy Dream aren’t all that expensive especially when taking everything into consideration. For example they do offer a forty minute session for 2000 Baht ($65 USD). More notable and perhaps appealing is their 5,000 Baht ($162 USD) set that entails ninety minutes of nuru massage and more in a jacuzzi room with one of the ladies on staff. That is of course more than 2,000 Baht but much more is also involved. Even then the price is lower than some similar shops in the immediate area charge for even a basic session.

It is possible to splurge at Daisy Dream but even then the prices are quite reflective of the situation. Two hours of nuru massage and more in a jacuzzi room with two of the ladies on staff costs 10,000 Baht ($324 USD). That’s double the rate of the single lady 90 minute jacuzzi service but it also adds another service provider and extends the appointment by an extra thirty minutes.

I know all of this from inquiring directly with the shop. There is some sort of unspoken rule that keeps massage parlors in Bangkok from posting their prices or menus on their websites these days. But Daisy Dream has an account on the Line app under the ID daisydream_massage. Through that they are very responsive and able to reveal all the important details. The same as inside the shop.

No matter the amount of time or type of session booked the ladies who work at the place certainly know what they are doing. Obviously I haven’t spent one on one time with every gal who works at Daisy Dream. But you can get a general feel for a place by spending some time inside and interacting with the people who work there. It is possible to find a single standout service provider in any place. But when a shop staff multiple experts it usually means the staff as a whole is experienced and professional.

Conclusion

There are those who bemoan the state of the adult entertainment industry in Thailand. Or even around the world more generally. As someone who has reported on the scene regularly for nearly a decade and observed it for even longer I can appreciate what they are saying. Yet the fact that places like Daisy Dream continue to open in well known and easily accessible areas like Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Soi 33 shows that there is still a lot of life and vibrancy to be found.

The days of the three hundred Baht girlfriend experience are long gone for the most part. But there are now many things that simply didn’t exist in years gone by. I wouldn’t say there is a massive rise of luxury massage parlors in Bangkok or really anywhere else for that matter. But in the last few years a select few places have opened where it is obvious that the people involved really want to provide a top service in suitable surroundings. Daisy Dream is that kind of place. And yet it still manages to stand out from the pack further thanks to its design, large staff, pricing, and way of doing things.

The people behind this massage club obviously care as they continue to work to improve their shop. That’s seen in the way they expanded their staff in such a short time and quickly drew in a number of customers. It’s also seen in the way they respond to customer concerns and continually try to improve their place. In short it is what customer service is all about.

Daisy Dream is an extraordinary massage parlor in an ocean of mediocrity. Looking beyond its elaborate adornment and ornamentation it is easy to see a dedicated staff and management that wants customers to leave happy. It appears no expense was spared putting the place together. Yet the shop doesn’t try to extract every last Baht from its paying customers either. Daisy Dream is as well run as it is constructed. I give it five stars.

The bar scene in Phnom Penh continues to grow. Over the last few years it has grown at a pace even I struggle to keep up with. Every time I return to the city it seems like there are more hostess bars. And they are spread over a large area.

The main concentration of bars continue to be in the same places. Street 104 is limited in length But the bars now stretch for whole city blocks on Street 130, Street 136 and even Street 51. Then there are the other bars popping up away from the action. One is called the Filling Station.

The Filling Station in Phnom Penh is not to be confused with the famous restaurant of the same name located in the heart of Manila’s P Burgos red light district. As far as I can tell the only thing the two places have in common is that they both employ Filipina ladies.

The Filling Station

The Filling Station is easy to find assuming the address is known in advance. Otherwise I don’t imagine many people would accidently happen upon it. The bar is located on Street 282 which a side street in a rather quiet area.

The bar takes up what seems to have been a large villa at one point. Though it was all redone and fitted out to be a business. The place is clearly marked with a large sign out front. Although it is in a discrete location the place is no secret. It has been advertised for a while and many people talk about the place. I first heard of it a few years ago from a manager of another well known place.

Inside there is a large sort of dance floor area. To the left there is a proper bar. To the right there are comfortable booth style seats. And at the back there is an elevated stage area where live bands can and do play. It seems like a lot is possible though the place was very quite when I visited.

Around a dozen women work at the Filling Station. As mentioned above they hail from the Philippines. I wouldn’t say any of the gals are superstars in terms of either looks or personality. But they certainly aren’t ugly old hags either. Over all the place and its staff sort of remind me of the Filipino bars in Singapore’s Orchard Towers.

Staff, prices and summary

The Orchard Tower bar comparison applies to the prices too which seem to be flexible to put it mildly. Draft beers for customers cost 2 dollars which is higher than some hostess bars but not out of the norm for the area. The lady drink prices are where things get questionable. A lady drink at the Filling Station supposedly costs $4.50. But some of the gals have a habit of ordering two drinks or “a double” for themselves when a customer orders one. Then they bring over a receipt to have signed. It wouldn’t be difficult for a customer with his guard down to sign off on an extra drink without knowing it. And no matter the price all receipts have a ten percent “service charge” attached to them.

I understand that women traveling from the Philippines to another country would aim to make money. But there is more than one way to do that. I don’t know how much management is involved in the business on the floor. But whoever is in charge of it hasn’t made the best decisions if bringing in and retaining customers is the goal.

More than one person has reported being ripped off at the bar. A Japanese punter says he was charged $600 in a single night with lots of unexpected fees. Kiss 3 Massage is one of the many specialty massage parlors operating on Sukhumvit Soi 22 in Bangkok. At this point there are around a dozen of these sorts of shops in a small alley. The lobby at Kiss 3 is small and elongated with a bar at the end of the room. Booking sessions is as easy as calling ahead or simply walking into the shop. The prices vary depending on the services rendered and the rooms used. But the rates are more or less on par with what all the similar shops in the area charge.

The cheapest option is a 30 minute body to body massage with a handjob for 1200 Baht ($40 USD). The most expensive is a two hour full service session in a VIP Jacuzzi room for 2800 ($92 USD). Several other options are available at prices in between. The shop also serves couples and single women and can probably cater a package to meet any reasonable request.

Staff and services

There are a handful of woman at Kiss 3 Massage at any given time. After gaining thousands of followers and being asked for more content she decided to jump into porn.

Interviews with people in the sex industry have always been a part of this website. I will continue to do them as long as there are interesting people to talk to. Aria’s story is certainly fascinating. So fresh off the heels of my interview with European porn star Sylvia Sucker I am pleased to present this question and answer session with Aria Khaide.

Thanks for agreeing to do this interview. How old are you and where are you from?

I’m 30, and from New Jersey. Born and raised!

Would you say you were a sexual person before you got into porn?

I was a very sexual person. By my mid-20s my number was already 175 and I only started at 18… I also believe in self exploration.

What was your first sexual experience?

With a woman, my girlfriend, going down on me around age 14. She was a few years older. Then my first experience with a man was age 18 on Halloween dressed like a slutty cop in a car backseat.

When did you first see porn?

Probably pretty young when channel surfing and saw some explicit stuff on HBO or one of those channels. I was never really a porn watcher until in high school or college.

How did you get into doing porn yourself?

Started posting amateur stuff then got a bug following on Fetlife and my husband told me in should go for it! So about a year ago I jumped in with 2 feet!

What advice would you have for women who want to get into porn?

Invest in your brand. Be FSC tested at all times. May not be cheap but it sets a standard. Create a brand and vision with what you want to be and do, and shoot that content as much as you can with professional and reliable talent. Be confident and okay with setting boundaries to always be comfortable with what you do. Go into it because you love it and want to do it. Positive energy not just for the money. Most of all have fun and embrace your slut!

What’s the worst experience you’ve had in the industry? What is the best?

Luckily enough I am very picky with who I work with so I haven’t had too many bad experiences. However, flakiness and cancellations are horrible in this industry. I pride myself on being reliable and professional and many don’t reciprocate that. There are so many great experiences; to be able to meet and work with so many amazing people! I’ve had the honor of shooting with Sarah Vandella, Lauren Phillips, Isiah Maxwell, Mick Blue, Johnny Sins and so many more!

How long do you plan on making videos?

For as long as I can! I have high hopes and goals for Aria Khaide and want to be a household porn name!

What kind of panties do you wear on a normal day?

None usually or thongs.

What’s the wildest sexual experience you’ve had?

I’m never a fan of this question because who defines what wild is really? My husband and I have had lots of public sex especially in front of jealous vanilla friends that we like to enlighten.

What do you think about prostitution?

Hmm that’s a loaded question. I believe that your body is your own. There’s prostitution like escorting and then there’s forced prostitution. I personally do not escort or do “private sessions” however for those that do it safely and legally then that’s their choice. Sex trafficking has been tied to sex work which is not the case so it’s really important to separate the two when having this kind of conversation.

The novel coronavirus has had an incredible impact on the entire world. There are many places to get information on the virus. There is plenty of misinformation out there too. In fact there is so much talk about Covid-19 online and off that I have considered avoiding the issue on this website entirely in order to offer a sort of respite to readers. But as I have been reporting on the commercial sex industry around the world for close to eight years it does seem appropriate to mention the impact the coronavirus is having on this particular aspect of the world economy.

Of course this is an ongoing and developing story. But I can write about what I know at the moment. Understandably the sex industry hasn’t been given a lot of coverage in the midst of the worldwide health crisis. But there are many people involved in the industry and they don’t simply disappear when something like this happens.

Sex workers and corona

So far studies seem to show that the novel coronavorus is most easily spread by close contact with infected people. That means that sex workers and their customers would be at particular risk of contracting Covid-19. I am not aware of any cases directly connected to sex work but it seems logical to assume that it certainly could happen.

Early on the rise of Covid-19 seemed to effect Chinese sex workers the most. As far back as early February sex workers of Chinese decent were bemoaning a major drop in business all around the world. A lot of it had more to do with fear that facts. One example of this is the sex worker of Chinese heritage who hadn’t been to China in almost a decade. Despite her lack of travel to the mainland she says her business still plummeted.

In New Zealand, some Chinese sex workers say they were pretending to be Japanese or Korean and offering major discounts to secure business. Apparently it didn’t help. One woman told the New Zealand Herald that business fell by fifty percent even after cutting her in half to $90 NZD a session. A spokesperson for the New Zealand Sex Workers Collective called these “extremely worrying times for sex workers.” That was over a month ago. Things can only be worse now.

Dancers working in strip clubs are also losing big. Many seem to be avoiding clubs all together where the clubs are even open at all. When people are told to keep their distance from others it hardly makes sense for punters to visit places where women do lap dances or give blowjobs after their shows. On the other than those who do their work behind a camera may see this crisis as a boon.

Adult performers and porn

On Twitter I have noticed a lot of corona virus related posts coming from porn stars and adult cam models. They range from temporary corona virus stay at home sales to messages urging a coming together of adult performers to weather the storm.

I can only image that adult cam sites will see a boost in visitors and perhaps even broadcasters as more people are asked to stay home. Yesterday the New York Post reported that business is booming for cam girls. That seems right though as things progress some may be more reticent to part with their hard earned cash.

It’s not all about money though. PornHub is offering free premium accounts to people under quarantine in Italy. The famous Japanese porn company Soft on Demand is offering 200 of its titles free of charge until March 31. That apparently led to the SOD website crashing so after the announcement. But it’s the thought that counts. Luckily Soft on Demand titles are still available on the English-language website R18 though they do come at a cost.

Bar closures in Thailand

People in the adult entertainment industry in Thailand have been complaining of low customer numbers since the beginning of the year 2020. To some extent this is to be expected. But the novel coronavirus has definitely had a major impact. Especially in February and March. Now things could get worse for those in the industry as a nationwide bar closure may take effect.

Months into the novel coronavirus outbreak a Covid-19 outbreak management committee in Thailand is being asked to consider closing all entertainment outlets including go go bars. There is no word if massage parlors will be shuttered assuming the closure goes through. According to the Bangkok Post, the idea is being proposed by the deputy prime minister and public health minister.

Readers may be familiar with the latter as he infamously suggested “fucking farang” should be kicked out of the country for not wearing masks in early February. In March a tweet went out from an account under the same minister’s name warning Thais to watch out as “many farang dress dirty and don’t shower“. That Twitter account was deleted soon after.

Bar or massage parlor closures may become somewhat of a moot point if travel bans continue to increase. Except for perhaps the sizeable number of people from around the world who live or work in Thailand full time. There is also a large local customer base in Thailand that would be effected. Most of all there are untold thousands of sex workers in Thailand and their families who rely on their income.

Adult entertainment in Europe

As I am writing this most entertainment related businesses are already closed across countries like Italy, Spain and France. That does include many adult entertainment and sex industry hot spots. The German FKK Artemis in Berlin has announced that it will remain closed until April 9. It is not alone. Wellcum in Austria has closed its doors until May 1.

Many of these shut downs are self imposed. But in some areas the closures are government enforced as “non-essential” businesses are ordered closed. For example Sexy Sauna Erotic Club in Prague has been ordered closed for thirty days by decree of the Czech government. I don’t have any special insight into these things but it seems to me more closures are probably coming.

How about China?

As most know by now, Covid-19 first emerged in China. The city of Wuhan was locked down and many things were closed across China. What was shuttered ranged from crossings between Mainland China and Hong Kong to the casinos in Macau. Some closures have been reversed since then. Others remain in place.

In mid-March there were reports that workplaces and factories planned to reopen in Wuhan itself. In some other parts of China things got going earlier. At least officially. On February 20, casinos in Macau were allowed to reopen though many tables were closed in an attempt to keep distance between people. Some of Macau’s famous sex saunas were reportedly open for business too. A person on staff says Rio reopened around the same time but was very quiet.

Meanwhile, in Japan

Japan is certainly not immune from Covid-19. Some people have resorted to panic buying things like toilet paper and masks. Others have started working at home. The Japanese government has asked people to maintain distance from crowds and follow basic hygiene recommendations. But so far there hasn’t been any major lockdown enforced on the population.

Fuzoku businesses remain open in the land of the rising sun. But delivery health places like Tokyo Style are taking precautions by disinfecting their offices, requiring staff to wear masks, and measuring staff body temperatures. The foreigner friendly soapland Paradise in Yoshiwara is asking customers to wash their hands and use mouthwash upon entering the shop too.

On a lighter note there are reports of a male sex toy shortage in Japan. Several days ago Japanese twitter user kumahakumakuma7 uploaded a picture of a sign posted on a sex shop that reads “Due to the novel coronavirus, our supply of adult goods is low. Our next shipment is not expected until at least late April, so please make your purchase soon”.

Along with the picture came a caption: “Coronavirus, this is unforgivable! There are some lines you just don’t cross!” So even the sex toy shops are being hit hard. At least those stuck at home with nothing but their hands still have access to online onahole outlets like Kanojo Toys and Toy Demon. So all is not lost.

Update March 16, 2020: The prime minister of Thailand has rejected the call to close entertainment facilities. The mayor of Angeles City has ordered all bars in the city to close. Amsterdam has shuttered its famed red light districts.

Update March 17, 2020: The prime minister of Thailand has ordered all entertainment facilities in Bangkok including go go bars and massage parlors to close. The local government has closed all the bars and massage parlors in Pattaya. The government of Cambodia has ordered the closure of KTVs across the country.

Gold Coast Spa is a large and elaborate men’s sauna in Phnom Penh. Although it is located in the heart of the city’s development boom it can be startling to see such a massive male massage parlor spring up in what was recently a rather sleepy city.

Perhaps more surprising is the fact that Gold Coast Spa looks and operates a lot like some of Macau’s famous sex saunas or perhaps more accurately the spa at Alexis in Jakarta. In a city where venues from cafes to small massage shops are regularly inspected on suspicion of impropriety one may wonder how such a large and prominent place can so openly exist.

About Gold Coast Spa

Gold Coast Spa is located on the riverside road that leads to the Aeon 1 shopping mall. The place is just a short distance from the previously reviewed Wonderland KTV. The area is home to a lot of development and several Chinese owned and oriented businesses.

I don’t know who owns Gold Coast Spa. But the place must have cost a lot of money to construct. It is large and obvious with plenty of signs. Through a set of large glass doors there is a long lobby with a big front desk at the back. The lobby is staffed by a team of multilingual local men and women who help direct customers through the facility. Customers first stop at the desk to get a numbered wrist band which tracks expenditures inside. Final bills are settled at the same desk as customers depart.

Through a set of doors to the right there are full lounge and spa facilities. This even includes a full buffet after 6:00 PM. There are also attendants on hand that do what could be called regular or mainstream massages. Unlike the Macau saunas there are no ladies dedicated solely to “third leg” massages in the spa and sauna area. But there are ladies from various countries up on the top floor who do full service. Customers interested only in them can enter an elevator in the lobby that leads straight to the private rooms up there.

Staff, services and summary

In the spa the staff is made up of Chinese and Cambodians. On the top floor female Cambodian managers organize use of the rooms and some older local ladies clean up the place. But the service providers are all from different areas.

After customers enter one of the private suites for a “special massage” the available service providers file in with a manager. There are probably two dozen gals or more working the position. They are purported to come from China, Russia and Vietnam. The Russian women could in fact be from any of the CIS Countries though most would probably not care to make such a distinction.

The service providers are in their twenties and wear revealing gowns and dresses. None are overweight or into middle age. Beauty is ultimately in the eye of the beholder though I imagine most men would consider the gals to be between average and attractive in terms of looks.

Each room has a bathroom with shower and a large bed. The gals carry kits and have their own way of doing things. But Chinese sauna style service is common. That means things like hot water and ice can be implemented by the providers as they go about doing their work. Sessions last quite a while and can include massages along with multiple “main events”.

The gals don’t receive any direct payments themselves. Instead customers show their wrist bands at the front desk where they are told their bill. At any place like this with multiple services available the prices can vary. The cheapest sessions involving full service would come to guys who go straight to the top floor for a session with a Vietnamese gals and then back down to the front desk. In those cases they would pay about $118 US. Others pay more or less depending on what they do and who they do it with. Three stars.

I have learned that the Club Nevada go go bar on Soi Post Office in Pattaya closed on February 29, 2020. While this could easily be written off as just another bar failure in Thailand I believe it has more significance. Club Nevada hasn’t been a very popular bar for quite a while. But the club has been around for many years. So it’s closure it quite notable even in an overall downward economy.

I have reported on the sex industry in Thailand and around the world for close to a decade. But I am not a historian. I cannot tell exactly when Club Nevada opened. But I am quite sure that Club Nevada was one of the longest running go go bars in Pattaya. It was probably even one of the longest running in the country. Now it is gone.

Agogos in Pattaya

No matter what anyone says Pattaya’s existence is based around its go go bars. Even as some have tried to transform the town into a family holiday destination Walking Street is still the main attraction. The reason people go to Walking Street is to see the go go bars and all the related spectacle. Without that the city would surely draw in fewer people.

The entire history of Pattaya is bound up with go go bars. The city transformed from a sleepy fishing town into a renown tourist destination over a period of years. That all started when soldiers from the war in nearby Vietnam started taking their allotted rest and relaxation in Pattaya’s beaches. The town started to form into an international destination as word of mouth spread from veterans returning to their home countries.

Club Nevada go go bar

As stated above Club Nevada was definitely not the most popular go go bar in Pattaya. It was located on Soi 13/2 which is commonly referred to as Soi Post Office. Walking Street and to a lesser extent LK Metro are the hot spots for agogo bars these days. But there are go go bars all around town. It does seem that bars away from the main areas draw in less customers.

Club Nevada was a rock and roll bar. It even said so on the sign. Someone once even said Nevada reminded them of a biker bar. I can see where they were coming from. Everything from the interior to the vibe and the music had that sort of feel. But in fact it was just an old school go go bar. In some ways it almost seemed to be frozen in time. For years a draft beer was 55 Baht ($1.70 USD). Lady drinks were 100 ($3.30 USD). The barfine was 700 Baht ($22 USD) and the gals usually wanted 1300 Baht ($41 USD) more for themselves.

There were a handful of dancers who worked Club Nevada. Sometimes they did double duty and did things like fetch drinks for customers. They would also often strip down into their birthday suits and dance when customers came in. Nevada was never known for employing stunners. But I distinctly remember spending time with a dancer with a rock hard stomach and nipples like pencil erasers the last time I visited. She also invited me upstairs for a session. The rooms up there were another feature that stuck out just like the aforementioned ladies boobnobs.

Club Nevada opened early in the afternoon. One gal would usually work the stage while others tried to work the customers. The place had a laid back and friendly feeling. That kind of intimacy was made easier by the small staff and lack of crowds. The music was never so loud that you couldn’t hold a conversation either.

I am not sure what finally drove Club Nevada out of business. But the news did take me aback. Did the downturn in the world economy have an impact? It is quite possible. People in Pattaya were already complaining of lower tourist numbers before the Novel Coronavirus was labeled a global pandemic. The impact of Covid-19 has now brought much of the world economy to a halt. But I don’t have any special knowledge or insight into the closure of Club Nevada. I can only tell you one thing. While all the bars of Pattaya have closed down temporarily Club Nevada has already closed its doors for good.

I have covered Japanese adult video since this website first went online almost a decade ago. Since then I have also received countless questions about the Japanese porn industry from people all over the world. I have tried to answer many myself but I have also reached out to experts. Now I have presented 20 questions about Japanese porn to the guy behind the amazing ZENRA website. If anyone knows about Japanese porn, it’s him.

I first mentioned ZENRA in a list of the best porn way back in 2016. ZENRA has been the best source for subtitled Japanese porn at least since then. Now it is even better thanks to a major overhaul that made the side easier to navigate and generally just better to look at. I have spent untold hours going through the archives there. The addition of new videos all the time ensures that I will keep visiting in the future too. Eventually I even did an interview with the owner of ZENRA but the questions there were more focused on his part in the business.

Now I present you with 20 questions and answers about Japanese porn. Some of these questions came from readers. Others reflect things I’ve read or picked up from various sources. But all of the answers will be of interest to anyone who is interested in Japanese AV, fuzoku and the adult entertainment industry in Japan.

Years ago a Japanese AV producer claimed that 1 out of every 200 Japanese women had done porn. Do you think that was true?

Not even remotely close. The actual number is way, way less. Just look at new JAV releases in any given year and see how many actual new faces are there. Perhaps 1 out of every 200 Japanese women who also work in the sex industry have done porn, but nothing beyond that.

What is the status of the Japanese porn industry at the moment? How often are videos being filmed and released? Are revenues steady, growing or in decline?

Shooting even during this current worldwide situation is still going on. I’ve heard bukkake shoots have been limited though for obvious reasons. Per revenues, some studios are making more and others less. Most agree that the era of huge money (pre-tubes) is long gone.

When was the height of the Japanese adult video industry reached? How many videos were being released monthly during that time?

Early to mid 2000’s was the Golden Era of JAV. This is the time when studios had the most creative freedom (and compared to the west, they still have tons now) and were making insane amounts of money. You had multiple studios pushing out big group/orgy titles each month. Now we’re down to maybe three studios that still will regularly release big group movies.

Do Japanese consumers purchase more porn on physical discs or downloads these days? How about streaming?

Nowadays, VOD reigns supreme. People still buy physical and often in big cities at least it’s during those many JAV star meet-and-greet events. They’re easier to carry out in Japan due to the size of the country.

How many hard copies of each AV release are pressed up on average?

I’m not sure off-hand. If I had to guess anywhere from several hundred to several thousand. A smaller studio once told me selling 300 copies of a title physically in the first few months of its release is
considered “OK”.

Who is the biggest AV porn star in Japan right now?

In terms of newer faces, Eimi Fukada may be it. She actually debuted a few years ago, but took time off for plastic surgery and has been on fire since. There’s quite a few other popular actresses as well, but who’s who in JAV is one of my weak points. I’m more focused on what studios make rather than who’s in them.

Maria Ozawa was one of the biggest AV stars in the US for years. She is also very popular in Indonesia and the Philippines. Is she the biggest international star to come out of Japanese AV?

I don’t think she was even that popular in Japan and hasn’t performed in close to a decade. The biggest international star to come out of JAV is probably Marica Hase.

Do you think tube sites and free porn have had as big an impact on Japanese porn as they have on the American porn industry?

Bigger because the JAV industry is horrible at enforcing their copyright. We help out at times, but as the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water…

How interested are Japanese porn companies in reaching out to the rest of the world? Obviously we now have sites like R18 but otherwise it doesn’t seem like a lot of attention is given to places like the US and UK with large porn markets.

They all want to expand, but few have the will, the time, and the communication abilities necessary to do so. There’s also the fact that most everybody hates mosaic (including studios and fans in Japan).
There’s big hurdles in getting foreigners who normally don’t watch JAV to start enjoying JAV.

Do Japanese porn companies see any revenue out of countries where AV has become very popular such as China, Taiwan, Indonesia and Thailand?

Taiwan has a big JAV presence. They have events that JAV stars fly out to appear in so I am going to assume that yes, at least there, revenue is quite substantial. Taiwan also happens to be one of the few other Asian countries where porn isn’t outlawed (though there seems to be a dire lack of Taiwan-produced content).

How much do AV stars make per video?

A well-known name’s agency may receive $4-5KUSD for a day’s work (2 sex scenes, 2-3 other scenes) with the JAV star receiving half.

A lot of people ask me how to get into Japanese porn. Occasionally I will see a few black guys or a westerner. Some videos are also based around Korean, Thai or “hafu” models too. How many foreigners are actually involved in Japanese AV?

If we’re talking in production and distribution (hello!), a few dozen at most.

A lot of AV stars do general sex work in Japan. They often show up in soaplands, strip clubs and other fuzoku shops. Is this a case of porn stars doing prostitution, or prostitutes moving into porn? Can they work in both areas simultaneously?

Pretty much every single JAV star got started doing sex work before doing JAV. The whole “I’m a real college student who decided to star in a porno” is fiction. These girls have at least done a little bit of out-call delivery work before making the leap. Some JAV stars will also work at brothels during their careers; sometimes they will be public about this and other times it’s done secretly. I don’t recall the URL offhand, but there’s a Japanese language BBS that consists of entries ‘outing’ JAV stars working at brothels under different names.

In the West, Japanese AV has become known for its “weird” videos featuring all sorts of various themes. I’ve seen everything from sex game show videos to grannie gangbangs in onsens. How common are these kinds of videos in Japan? How popular are they?

They’re not too common nor too popular in Japan. Not many studios produce the weird stuff; maybe more than western studios, but not as much as you may think. Just like foreigners, most Japanese enjoy pretty women having sex on camera. The biggest studios here mainly produce vanilla content.

How do most female AV stars end their careers? What do most of them go on to do?

Most JAV stars simply stop and move on with their lives. Some may have big retirement movies. Some may openly announce a retirement plus temporarily working at a big brothel like Tora. Some will open up snack bars and make appearance at hostess club for awhile, but that’s about it. A small number now, however, are pivoting into being social media personalities.

I have one last question. The Japan Contents Review Center and its predecessors were originally a voluntary organization. That being the case, what would happen if a Japanese porn studio simply ignored them and released videos without their censorship or approval?

If they don’t submit to Ethics companies, DMM and other big sites and stores won’t sell them. That’s about it. So doing something like opening your own paysite, selling on smaller sites/platforms is still fine even if you “self-inspect” your work for mosaic.

There are many go go bars in Pattaya. Walking Street and the surrounding area is home to what may be the most famous concentration of go go bars in the world. The Dollhouse just off of Walking Street is one of the best go go bars in the area at least in terms of what is on display.

It easy to get lost in the crowd of agogos in Pattaya. Especially when new bars open all the time as old places fade into the darkness. There is always a bar for sale and money to be made. So things will probably continue this way for sometime. I just do my best to navigate the ever changing field of bars and report on my findings here.

The Dollhouse Pattaya

The Dollhouse is located near the intersection of Soi 14 and Soi 15 a few steps away from Walking Street. Soi 14 and 15 actually cross over each other in the sort of road layout that is maybe more common in Thailand than anywhere else. The Dollhouse is in the space where they meet. So it is actually possible to enter the bar from either street.

The ground floor of the bar houses the main Dollhouse go go bar. It is a very spacious spot. There is an elevated stage area with some poles and seats with plenty of room between them. The place is almost cavernous and even though there are always dancers around it can almost look empty at times. But the reason for that is probably because the most action actually takes place upstairs in an area called The Dollhouse XXX.

The Dollhouse XXX Lounge

There is a clearly marked staircase inside of The Dollhouse that leads to the lounge upstairs. It is next to one of the entrances so it is possible to simply walk inside and straight up the XXX Lounge. Many people do exactly that and for good reason.

Years ago the go go bars could be pretty wild places. Things have slowed down and become a lot tamer in most bars. But there are still some like The Windmill where things are a lot like they used to be. The lounge upstairs at The Dollhouse also fits in that old school style category.

That is not to say that the Lounge is old by any means. It is one of the better designed and furnished go go bars in Pattaya. It is spacious with soft booth style seats lining the walls. There are multiple raised stages with poles. Each stage has more seats around it. The main draw isn’t the design however. It is the women.

The gals upstairs in The Lounge dance in the nude. And unlike some of the other nude bars around the women dancing in the Lounge are almost universally hot. There always seems to be a handful of attractive women with very nice bodies working the poles. Others can be found around the lounge spending time with customers. Things can always change from one day to the next. And beauty is ultimately in the eye of the beholder. But even my experienced eyes have been surprised at some of the bodies on show upstairs in the Dollhouse.

The Dollhouse doesn’t have the lowest prices in Pattaya by any means. But with a draft beer going for 110 Baht ($3.65 USD) the rates aren’t exactly out of control either. The barfines at The Dollhouse range from 800 to 1500 Baht ($26 – 50 USD) depending on the lady. Of course go go bars are not really cheap places. They haven’t been for some time. But they are a unique type of venue that remains popular. It is not difficult to see why. Especially when they’re filled with sexy gals in the buff. Three-and-a-half stars.

When doing research on the sex industry and experiencing life in general I come across a lot of woman. Many of them are in their birthday suits or otherwise exposed to some degree. Cozy Bar is probably the most well known hostess bar in Siem Reap. While the city is home to a large amount of adult entertainment venues most of them are aimed at locals and to some degree Asians from other countries. There are just three hostess bars in the city that are oriented more to tourists and westerners in general.

Besides being the most obvious hostess bar in town Cozy Bar is also notable for other reasons. One is that the place stays open around the clock. Siem Reap can be a rather sleepy place. But this bar’s slogan is “Siem Reap never sleep”. Another perhaps more notable feature of this bar is the fully functioning tattoo studio upstairs. I can’t tell you much about that studio except to say that it exists.

Cozy Bar is located on 2 Thnou Street near the Old Market and just around the corner from the city’s famous Pub Street. The bar has a big red neon sign over the entrance that is easy to see. It can be entertaining watching male tourists wandering towards the place until their female companions notice and drag them back into reality. Others don’t seem to mind as there are times when you do find western women inside enjoying a drink. Overall the place is quite welcoming. And the fact that it is fully open to the street on both sides ensures that nothing much that would be described as naughty goes on inside.

The bar has a rather full drink menu with all the liquor and beers you would expect in an establishment of this kind. The prices are very fair. A bottle of beer is just a couple of dollars. Draft beers are of course even less. Lady drinks can be purchased for the women in the bar. They cost an additional fifty cents over the normal price. Many of the gals are happy with just a can of Coca Cola. Food can ordered from nearby eateries without leaving the bar. There is a pool table on the back side of the bar that is free to play. A good sound system plays music from Youtube at a reasonable volume. Customers can select songs at the computer.

Staff and summary

The number of women working at Cozy Bar varies depending on the time of day and indeterminate other factors. Suffice it to say that there are normally just a few gals around in the heat of mid-day. And they tend to be more average and closer to middle age. As night falls more women generally start to show up. By ten or eleven there may be ten to twenty women in the bar including at least a few attractive ladies in their early twenties.

Cozy Bar is like most of the hostess bars in Phnom Penh. The women are mainly there to drink with customers and make some money. Some will leave the bar with some men and go somewhere private for more fun and compensation. Others will not no matter who asks. All sorts of things come into play that would be beyond the scope of this review. Basically the women choose what they want to do and ultimately this is a bar not a brothel. When viewing things that way it all starts to make more sense.

When women do agree to leave the bar customers must pay a barfine as is usual in these kinds of places. The barfine is ten US dollars which is the going rate across the country these days. The women themselves decide what amount of money they require above that. There is no set fee. But guys typically pay anywhere from twenty to a hundred dollars these days.

Cozy Bar is a laid back and friendly bar that is easy to walk into. Prices are reasonable and the ladies are friendly. It’s not Baccara in Bangkok but it doesn’t try to be either. If this bar was located in Phnom Penh it would be decidedly average. In Siem Reap it is a cut above the competition. So I give the place a deserved three-and-a-half stars.
