The Den in Pattaya is a somewhat unique place. As a sort of men’s lounge staffed with women it falls somewhere between a regular old pub and a gentlemen’s club. Of course the famous gentlemen’s clubs of Pattaya have locking doors and more besides. The opaque doors at The Den Pattaya close. But they don’t conceal any adult activities.

This Pattaya bar is based on the previously reviewed Den in Bangkok. That place was quite unique in the city. The original location on Sukhumvit Soi 12 was quickly followed up by another in Patpong. That was the clear stand out as it was staffed by a number of university students and other part timers were quite attractive and in some cases very skilled in English.

Alas both Bangkok locations of The Den closed a while ago. Then this version of The Den opened in Pattaya. Superficially it looks like a similar lounge. But it isn’t quite up to the high standards set earlier in the country’s capital.

Location and decor

The Den is located on Soi Chaiyapoon near the intersection with Third Road. Although the street is loaded with massage parlors like Nui’s and even the Lolita’s blowjob bar it is rather quiet. That said “Soi Pothole” does come alive with the right combination of time, alcohol and people. The first time I ever visited The Den I witnessed a heavily tattooed Englishman vocally threatening the life of a ladyboy across the street who called out to him.

Both the exterior and interior of The Den in Pattaya look like the original setups in Bangkok. Everything is done up with red touches. The trademark Lion’s Head is there too. So is the shark tank though for whatever reason it doesn’t seem as impressive in Pattaya.

Overall that is the impression. It all looks like The Den but it doesn’t necessarily feel as it did up in Bangkok. Some of the materials are a little more worn. Things aren’t as organized. And the general feeling in the place just doesn’t match up to the old space.

Ladies on staff

One reason for that might be the limited number of ladies on staff at The Den Pattaya. Even on evening visits there never seems to be more than a half-dozen women working at The Den. For such a large lounge this seems a little out of character.

And while The Den in Patpong staffed a number of part times who were very attractive the lineup at the Pattaya location seems decidedly more average. That is not to deride the fine ladies who work at The Den Pattaya. I am simply making a point.

The women who do work at The Den in Pattaya range in looks and age. One or two women in their early twenties are joined by a few others who are closer to thirty if not older. None of the gals are totally unattractive. At the same time there are probably not any women on staff who would be considered stunning beauties by most men.

The women are friendly enough. They like to have a good time and play pool. And they warm up easily. But they can appear shy to new customers who enter the lounge for the first time. Drinks are of course the name of the game. So guys who supply lady drinks quickly become popular.

Conclusion

It is possible for a guy to meet a lady at The Den Pattaya and take her out of the bar. But the place is not setup with that as the prime goal like a go go bar. Instead it is a lounge meant to be a place where guys can go to relax with some ladies. That it is. But it is not up the level set by the original Den locations in Bangkok.

The Den is certainly not a bad place. Someone who had not been to the original lounges of the same time might even think the place is stellar. Yet there is so much other competition for the Baht in Pattaya. And in view of that The Den doesn’t really stand out. It is different than the beer bars and gentlemen’s clubs to some degree. But it doesn’t really offer anything to pull customers out of those places and into The Den.

Splash is a rather unique bar in Phnom Penh. While there are many businesses of the kind in the area, Splash is the only one with a movie theater inside. That’s because it took over the spot from a former backpacker hang out called Flicks where various films were played on a regular basis.

Street 130 has grown into a sort of extension of Street 136 over the last few years. As recently as 2012 there were only a small number of bars on the street. That included the misnamed “136 Bar” and a couple more. Now there are many bars on Street 130, including several owned by the team behind the previously reviewed Angry Birds.

There is a difference in atmosphere and feeling between the bars on the two streets. Those on 136 seem to have more of a local vibe. They also have a reputation for being a big more raunchy and in your face. Part of that comes from some of the bars that now feature things like table dancing. Yet some of these same bars have also been accused of things like bill padding. Over on 130 it’s a big more laid back.

Splash Bar

Splash Bar is located on the south side of Street 130 a few doors down from a popular noodle restaurant. The bar itself doesn’t seem to be nearly as popular. At most there may be a handful of guys inside at any given time.

I have never seen more than a few women working at Splash Bar. But that is not to say there are never more than a few women there. These things change all the time. In one memorable episode a few years ago, the entire staff of one particular bar walked off the job in unison. It was a literal case of “here today, gone tomorrow.”

As with any Phnom Penh hostess bar, there is a mix of women. At Splash they tend more toward the lower end of their twenties. And most are quite attractive. Some will barfine in the right conditions. Others will not. It’s up to them. When they do the standard ten dollar fee is in place. And the women themselves expect an extra forty dollars or more for their time.

The Empire upstairs

Neither the women or the pricing scheme make Splash stand out from the pack. But the cinema located upstairs does. The most peculiar aspect of the place is that it still seems to be used by the general tourist crowd. Western women in vacation wear can be seem going up or down the stairs at times. And the hostesses in the bar below don’t bat an eye.

More to the point, the women in the bar also go up the stairs by request. They can join customers in watching a movie or television show there. And they seem quite happy to do so. Other than the moving images on screen, it is much like a hostess bar in the small theater. And it is not out of the ordinary for that to come complete with couple-like cuddling and more. Like I said, the place is unique.

The modern market in Phnom Penh apparently does not have room for two movie rooms. At least not as stand alone businesses. Yet just as one such place was closing another from the booming bar industry stepped in to pick up the slack. And that combination led to the creation of Splash. If it wasn’t for the theater the bar would be just another place. As it stands, it is definitely one of the more interesting bars in the city. Some bars sell coffee during the day. Others sell food. But Splash is the only place in town where you can watch Game of Thrones with your arm around a gal on staff. Three stars.

For years the content on this website consisted mainly of reviews of adult entertainment establishments mixed with occasional news and views all with an eye toward entertaining the readers. I reported on the opening of the Paradise soapland in Kawasaki almost two years ago. I have even done write ups on individual providers working at Paradise. Yet I have been remiss, as I have not yet provided a full review of the establishment itself. I will remedy that mistake today.

In fact Paradise is set up for people from other countries. Everything from the shop’s website to the signs inside the place are in English. The front desk and booking staff all speak English. And they even accept United States dollars for payment, which is a real rarity in Japan.

Location, price and procedure

Paradise is very easy to find with a large English sign. It’s just a short walk from Kawasaki Station. Kawsaki Station itself is just a short train ride from Tokyo. It only takes fifteen minutes to get from Haneda Airport to Kawasaki Station for example.

Sessions at Paradise can be booked in advance. The process is easy. They have English speaking staff manning the phone. They also have WeChat, Line, and Whatsapp accounts. Finally they have a live chat option on their webpage. The staff schedules are accurately listed on the site too, and updated in real time.

Paradise is a foreigner friendly soapland in the historic Yoshiwara district of Tokyo. A few years ago Paradise opened the first Japanese soapland oriented to foreigners in Kawasaki. That is just outside of the Tokyo city limits. The new Paradise in Yoshiwara is basically in the middle of the city.

Yoshiwara has a history going back many years. It was declared a red light district way back in the seventeenth century when Tokyo was still called Edo. In modern days Yoshiwara is a somewhat normal neighborhood complete with schools. But many soaplands continue to do business there.

As regular readers of this site know, most of the massive commercial sex industry in Japan is off limits to foreigners. A handful of soaplands in Yoshiwara accept foreigners on an individual basis and often with higher prices or restrictions.

Paradise Yoshiwara was specifically created with foreigners in mind. Everything from the shop’s website to the signage and rules inside are in English. In addition, the front desk staff speaks English. Some of the service providers do as well.

Location, price and procedure

Paradise is relatively easy to find in the grid structure of Yoshiwara’s blocks. It has a large English sign. And the location on Google maps is accurate. The immediate area is filled with soaplands. And each has a tout outside that tries to beckon in customers. Foreigners used to be totally ignored. Nowadays more touts appeal to gaijin to enter their shops.

Inside Paradise, there is a small counter to the right. Price lists and rules are there in English. And the desk is manned by an English speaking male. Customers pay for sessions up front. Rates start at 20,000 Yen ($180 USD) for a quick 30 minute session and go up from there. Sessions longer than one hour usually come with the kind of nuru nuru mat play that made Japanese soaplands famous.

There can be additional charges. But they are mostly negligible. For example, some of the women are in a higher class. They charge a little more for their time. This sort of thing is common in similar shops all over Asia. Even in the soapies of Thailand there are usually women in a “model class” who charge a premium.

After paying, customers go to a waiting room in the back. There are four leather chairs pointed towards a big screen TV that plays sexy introduction videos on loop. Bottoms is a long standing go go in the infamous P Burgos strip in the Makati section of Manila. The place stands out from the pack by being the only topless go go bar in the city. At this point it may even be the only one in the entire country.

The truth is that Bottoms isn’t the kind of “topless bar” you might expect. The phrase may conjure up visions of strip clubs in the United States where women walk around in nothing but panties. That isn’t the case at Bottoms. But strip clubs in the United States don’t have a bar fine system in place either. So it is different but not necessarily less of a place.

P Burgos Street is a popular place. Some of the go go bars there are crowded most days of the week. Others seem to be empty most of the time. Prices are relatively high across the board. Yet people continue to come. It is one of the sure bets for foreigners. And Bottoms is the only place where you can surely see some skin.

Location and layout

Bottoms is located on the north side of P Burgos Street just a few steps away from the Oxford Suites. It is in the bottom of the building. So perhaps that is where the name comes from. Otherwise the place would more appropriately be called “tops.”

The bar is quite large. The floor extends well to the back with a stage at the far wall. A pathway down the middle is lined with large comfortable booths on both sides. This is where customers sit. The seats don’t always give the best view of the stage. But they do allow customers to get cozy with women in the bar.

Indeed that seems to be a major draw of the bar. And it makes sense. At many Western strip clubs the most a guy can do is look at a woman. In many it is not even possible to buy a drink for a dancer. At Bottoms and bars like it there are lady drinks. Customers can buy drinks for dancers. The dancers get a cut of the money. And they usually don’t mind getting close to customers who pay for the drinks.

There are at least two dozen women working Bottoms most nights. At times there can be many more. The numbers can be deceiving since some of the women are always tied up with customers. And others come and go from a changing room in the back. Still there is never a real shortage.

The ladies are for the most part attractive. And they tend to have some of the most endowed chests you will see anywhere in the Philippines. Bottoms is the longest running bar on P Burgos. And their eye for talent in staffing clearly has something to do with their success.

As mentioned the gals go topless or close to it. There was a time when you could see nude women in the bar. But back then it was somewhat common in other bars too. Nowadays the women wear things that are technically tops yet barely there. They may have tiny white tops that are untied as the women wear at Windmill in Pattaya. The women are generally a very friendly bunch. And the managers and wait staff are kind too. Of course the ladies aren’t as friendly as they used to be. In the past they were known to offer oral services in private booths. But otherwise things are more or less the same.

The barfine remains in effect though the prices seem to creep up every year. At least check the barfine at Bottoms was 4000 PHP ($76 USD). The women are mostly eager to leave the bar with customers. Van An is one of the many hot toc hair salons in Ho Chi Minh City. Located well outside of the beaten tourist path it serves a mainly local customer base. Prices are ambience reflect that of course. So it is a good example of what this kind of shop is normally like.

This is the sort of nondescript place that foreigners usually do not mention or even notice. Indeed many locals probably overlook the place too. Yet it remains in business with a regular stream of customers. And it even has listings on the local Vietnamese directories.

On the surface these kinds of places offer facial massages and hair washing. That’s why they are called hot toc goi dau. Literally this means cut hair shampoo. In reality and behind closed doors however these places are known for offering blow jobs with the aid of hair dryers.

Location and layout

Van An is located in District 2. It’s on the north end of a small road that connects two more major thoroughfares. There is plenty of traffic yet little in the way of traffic jams. There are all sorts of businesses around. Van An is marked by a sign and some minor neon lighting. Otherwise it blends in with the retailers around it.

The front doors are open to the street. Yet you cannot see into the place when passing by. So it is public and discreet at the same time. Unlike other hot toc shops such as Kim Yen, the doors are not normally locked. So customers can walk right inside.

Ladies at Van An

Beyond the doors there are no pretenses. Despite the services listed on the exterior there is no barber style hair cut setup at Van An. Instead there is a small makeshift lobby where two or three women sit and wait for customers. They wear the kinds of form fitting dresses that are standard in most businesses of the kind.

None of the women working at Van An are set to win any beauty pageants. But it is not a retirement home where women who can’t make it elsewhere are put out to pasture either. The gals in the shop are in the middle of the road. And in Vietnam that means they are comparatively on the attractive side considering their age and profession.

The women all appear to be in their thirties. They don’t have an obvious distaste for either their work or their customers. But they aren’t necessarily enamored with it all either. As is common in Vietnam they simply doing the work they are being paid for.

Service and summary

Customers are taken to a row of booths in the back of the shop. They have walls and doors yet there are not totally private. Sounds and such could theoretically be seen and heard from other booths as the walls do not go up to the ceilings. Yet that would require a rush of customers which seems highly unlikely.

Service is similar to other shops of the sort. Each woman has their own way of doing things. But typically the start by instructing their customers to drop trowel. That is followed by a quick clean up. Then they move their kit around to reveal a little skin and go to work. They stop after the logical conclusion.

The house fee at Van An is 150,000 Dong. And the typical tip is 50,000. That comes out to a total of 200,000 VND ($8.56 USD). This is what the vast majority of customers pay at this shop and some others like it. There is no special fee for foreigners. Yet in some shops now well known by foreigners fees of 400,000 or 500,000 are now commonly requested.

Van An is easy to miss. And for locals who live, work or play in Saigon it must be just as easy to forget. That is because it is like so many other similar shops in the city. There is nothing to make it stand out from the pack. But that may very well be by design. As they say in Japan, “the stake that sticks up gets hammered down.” For this run of the mill men’s hot toc a two-and-a-half star rating seems most fitting.

Today I am proud to present an interview with Macy Nihongo. This is the latest in my long string of interviews with people in the sex industry. Hello. I normally start by asking the same thing. How old are you and where are you from?

Hi. I’m 36 years old. I’m from Thailand but I’m half-Japanese, half-Thai.

What was your first sexual experience?

For sure you need to like this way of work to fully enjoy and grow in this industry and have a brand with followers to earn good money.

I don’t see negative things about it. I never had any bad experiences in my business. I know some girls care of the opinions of others. I just didn’t have bad feedback maybe that’s why I feel good about it.

Do your family and friends know about your work?

Yes they know about my work. Maybe that’s why I don’t have any problem what other people think because my family and friends know and they support me in my carrier; always wish me well. I have my friends who are on my marketing team and photographers so it helps me a lot to be where I am right now.

Are you ever recognized by fans in the streets? If so, what is that like?

Ha ha! Yes, many times. Always a very nice experience. They are very happy to see me not only online. Some people are shy to say “hi,” so they send me messages on social media. Last time even the tuk tuk driver in Chiang Mai who drove me to airport said he is my fan, but sadly I didn’t get a free trip. Ha ha.

What is the most popular scene you have done so far?

I follow the needs of my fans. On my Twitter and my OnlyFans, the most popular video is called “anal sex in the kitchen.” More than one million people saw this video. So yeah I think it’s the most popular so far.

What do you think about prostitution in Thailand?

I don’t have any specific opinion about this. I know it exist in every place on the world. Thailand is a tourist spot. I also know about go go bars and the like.

I’m doing different business and to be honest not many girls wanna put effort to earn money on this way because it’s long term process not one night job and money. I have friends who shift from escorting and bar job to porn business and so far they are very happy. They don’t need to go out with random guys. How long do you continue to do porn? Do we have anything special to look forward to?

You never know exactly what you are going to get when you walk into a soapland. Even after reading reviews of a place you can still be surprised for better or worse. I was pleasantly surprised when I met Stacy at Paradise soapland in Yoshiwara. She is a real performer in a petite package.

I am not sure about how the classes are determined. I don’t think it has anything to do with quality. Because in my opinion Stacy is probably the best service provider at the shop.

There are two things main things to know about fuzoku in Japan. One is that most of it is off limits to foreigners. The other is that pictures used for advertising are usually heavily edited. Paradise is actually oriented to foreigners though. And Stacy’s profile is faithful to the actual woman.

Lan Massage is a brand new Japanese style soapland massage parlor in the Phrom Phong section of Bangkok. While Bangkok is a large city known for its many massage parlors the truth is that most venues of the sort are difficult to distinguish from one another. Lan Massage is an exception. The place is a real standout that offers some of the best service to be found anywhere.

It almost seems to me as if Lan Masage appeared out of nowhere. It seemed to have popped up overnight a few weeks ago. Almost instantly it was on my radar. Obviously opening a shop takes planning and work. What I know is that the shop opened one day and instantly drew my attention.

Some people wonder how massage parlors in crowded markets like Bangkok can make money. Especially when they are in out of the way places. But places with good service or something else special about them can get very popular. Lan Massage is unique in some aspects. And it is also in a very easy to find and convenient location. I have no doubt that it will become quite popular in the very near future. This review should help explain why.

Location and layout of Lan Massage

Lan Massage is located on Sukhumvit Soi 22. It is at the end of the first side alley on the right when traveling south from Sukhumvit Boulevard. The place doesn’t really stand out. But it is easy to find if you are actually looking for it. There is a big purple and white sign out front with a large kanji and the word “Lan” spelled out in English.

The shop is entered through two darkly tinted glass doors. Inside it is very clean and smelling of a newly constructed shop. Although the lobby is small the place doesn’t feel crowded like some other Soi 22 massage parlors do. There is a desk at one side staffed by a lovely multilingual lady. On the other side there is a small comfortable couch.

Several private rooms can be found upstairs. At first glance they appear a little small but they are actually just the right size for the job. Each has a full firm bed along with a tiled wet area that perfectly fits a nuru massage mat. The place is quiet inside too. The Lan Massage rooms most remind me of the rooms at the Paradise soapland in Yoshiwara. The fact that Paradise is actually in Japan really says something.

Overall Lan offers a nice respite from the heat and clamor of Bangkok. It feels like a private and out of the way place even though it just a short walk from the main Sukhumvit thoroughfare. The place is well organized for a shop of its kind and booking a session is a real breeze.

Staff and prices

The menu at Lan Massage is mercifully uncomplicated which again helps the place stand out. There are just two options spelled out in plain English. A 60 minute massage is 3300 Baht ($108 USD). A 90 minute massage costing 3900 Baht ($127 USD) is an even better value.

Although it is not spelled out specifically the service at Lan is basically that offered in the famous soaplands of Japan. That means customers get a thorough nuru nuru massage on a genuine purpose built inflatable mat using real Japanese gel. The women are well skilled and deliver from beginning to end. In Japan they say the customer is god. At Lan Massage it certainly feels like it.

For years most adult massage parlors in Bangkok offered a brief massage followed by full service if indeed they offered a massage at all. And service beyond that was often mediocre or lacking all together. The appearance of a select few new soapland shops in Bangkok really changes things. And when it comes to service Lan Massage is really at the top of its game.

Customers are shown a lineup in person when they enter. The available women come out and make a greeting wearing nice and moderately revealing clothing. There are several women on staff at all times. They range in looks from average to very attractive. All have proportional bodies and good attitudes. A couple are absolutely stacked. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder I don’t imagine there are many men in this world who find staff members like Parery or Naya unattractive.

Nuru massage and more

Several years ago few people outside of Japan had ever heard of a nuru massage. Now the practice is increasingly common and popular. Over the last few years more and more shops have started adding “nuru massage service” to their menus in Bangkok. Yet most of service providers in those shops are not really skilled or trained in the practice. So they can only go through the motions. At the real Japanese style shops the women truly know what they are doing. And at Lan they know as good as anyone.

Providers like the aforementioned Parery are absolute experts. At this point it is easy for me to become somewhat jaded. At times I can even find things like nuru massage to be boring or mediocre. That is certainly not the case here. The nuru massages delivered at Lan Massage are absolutely fantastic and cover the full body from top to bottom in ways some could only imagine.

The providers don’t appear to be shy either. Extended body to body sliding is standard procedure. So is Asian style service like the cat bath and extended rimming. On top of that all the standard services are also provided as expected. That means oral and full service are done as a regular aspect of a session. And they are also done well.

On top of all of this the providers at Lan Massage are not selfish or standoffish. They offer as many shots as possible in the time allotted. I don’t have the vigor that I used to but I have to say that the service providers at Lan Massage invigorated me to a state that made me feel like a young man again. At least until it was time for me to go back through the tinted doors and into the the streets of Bangkok to join everyone else in the heat. I am unable to find any flaws in Lan Massage. So I would remiss if I did not give it five stars.

Rose Bar is perhaps the most well known hostess bar in all of Phnom Penh. It was the original on Street 104. That short street is now lined with girlie bars from one end to the other. Yet Rose Bar continues to evolved and maintain its popularity.

At the same time, there are those who seem to avoid the bar for one reason or another. There can be no doubt that Rose Bar draws in its share of customers though. On any given night numerous men can be found inside cavorting with the even more numerous women.

When it was starting out Rose Bar was a rather simple place. The main thing that set the bar apart was its location. Today it is one of the largest hostess bars in the city. It extends far back into a pool room. And there is an additional “VIP space” upstairs.

Location and layout

Rose Bar is located on the south side of Street 104. With the large sign and lights out front it is basically impossible to miss. On top of that many tuk tuk drivers who specialize in serving foreigners know exactly where the bar is located. This must lead to at least some of the traffic that goes into the bar.

Yet while Rose Bar is a popular place it never seems to be overly crowded. There are always at least a few hostesses free to interact with customers. That is not the case in some other bars which only have a handful of women around.

The bar itself is very long and lined with high back padded stools. There are raised tables with wooden chairs along the wall. Back in the pool room there is some additional seating. Then there are the cushioned couches up in the VIP room. So there is a lot of space.

Rose Bar also has a high number of women who can speak English. In some cases this can be explained by their long work histories. But Rose Bar also has a lot of women in their early twenties on staff. That includes at least one gal who has a habit of going around without a bra. Although rare for women under fifty in modern Cambodia, I doubt her wardrobe many complaints from male clientele.

Prices and summary

Not long ago the prices in Phnom Penh were very low all across the board. Many have heard tales of the famous bars with oral sex samples on offer for a dollar each. Or blowjobs that came along with beers. Those days are well and gone. Prices are still relatively low in comparison to some parts of the world. But they are much higher than they used to be.

In addition there is also a lot of variance in prices these days. There is no uniform lady drink price. Some bars charge more than others for drinks and for barfines. The market has truly emerged in Phnom Penh. And its obvious in more than just the bars.

Prices at Rose Bar are relatively reasonable. The bar doesn’t charge exorbitant rates on anything despite its popularity. So a beer still goes for a couple of bucks. And a lady drink still costs three dollars and change. The barfine at Rose Bar is $10 USD. Most women at Rose Bar are keen to leave with customers too. They of course expect additional compensation for their time.

Rose Bar is one of the longest running hostess bars in Phnom Penh. It draws in a lot of tourists and temporary visitors. But it also has a coterie of regular clients. Maintaining that sort of thing requires a certain touch. I give it two-and-a-half stars.

Atami is a soapy massage parlor in Ubon Ratchatani, Thailand. While Ubon is probably not on the radar of most foreigners who visit or even live in Thailand, it is one of the bigger cities in the country. With something like 200,000 people in the metro area Ubon is considered one of the “big four” of the Isaan region.

A number of women have left Ubon over the years to work bars and massage parlors in other parts of the country like Bangkok, Pattaya and even Chiang Mai. Still many have stayed put. Some of them work in the same kinds of venues in their hometown.

Objectively Ubon Ratchatani does not look like much more than a provincial center. And in some ways that it is true. But it is also a city with things going on including some adult entertainment that is not always up front and obvious. Atami is not the only soapy massage parlor in town either as I will explain in future posts and reviews.

Location and lobby

Atami is located on a street that is just one block over from the main Chayangkun thoroughfare. It would not be seen to people traveling on the main road that dissects the city. But it is prominent and easy to find on its own road. The outside of the building is even decorated with large pictures of bikini-clad women.

There is a fairly large parking lot at Atami that usually contains several vehicles. A sign for the parlor perches over the entrance where a security guard greets customers. It is all reminiscent of the previously reviewed Sayuri Massage complex in Chiang Mai that I covered a few years ago.

Inside there lobby opens up to a fairly large room with low ceilings. On one end there is a typical fishbowl set up but without the glass. Women sit on bleacher seats where they can be easily seen. Several plush chairs and couches are available for customers.

There are several male managers on staff and they are all quite friendly and welcoming. At least one can speak enough English to explain service and carry on a little conversation. Few others at Atami can speak English. Most customers are probably Thai. Though farangs and other foreigners do show up at the parlor with regularity.

Layout and rooms

As stated Atami is clearly the biggest soapy massage parlor in Ubon Ratchatani. Since Long Beach closed a while back many would also say it is the best soapy in town. I would agree with that assessment. The place is not gigantic but it is quite large and well appointed for an area like Ubon.

Since there is no glass in the viewing area at Atami the women can walk right out into the lobby when they are selected. They then guide customers down a long hall lined with stone style walls. It is all quite fitting for the venue.

The rooms at Atami are quite large. In fact they are some of the biggest I have ever seen since authorities shut down The Lord in Bangkok. This doesn’t add much of anything to the service. But it is worth noting as it helps describe the overall environment.

Each room has a large bed and a flat screen television on the wall that has a cable connection as well as a Japanese porn channel on infinite loop. The baths used are big round whirlpool style tubs that are large enough for a couple of people. Each room also contains a couch though they are harder than the rocks featured on the walls in the hallway.

Women at Atami

There are perhaps two dozen women working with customers at Atami overall. That does not include the dozens of others who work behind the scenes. Atami is open during the day but only a handful of women come in early. After nightfall there can be as many as twenty two women on call.

The prices at Atami depend on the level or “class” of woman providing the services. There seems to be little rhyme or reason to the pricing scheme as even the women who work at Atami are unable to explain why one women charges more than another.

The charge is 1500, 1700 or 2000 Baht ($48, 55 or 65) per session depending on the woman. Prices are given up front. And customers are expected to pay up front at the cashier after they select a woman. Drinks are also offered at quite reasonable prices considering the venue.

Services at Atami are like those in most any Thai soapy massage. That means customers are undressed then washed in the bath. That is followed by a romp in the bed which typically includes fairly good oral and full service. After that there is a shorter bath before things draw to a close.

A session at Atami is supposed to run one hour. And indeed that is usually delivered if customers want it. But in reality things usually wind down naturally after services are rendered ad the final bathing ritual is performed.

To their credit the women who work at Atami do not ask for tips. Though they certainly do appreciate them when given. Although the women can have several customers each day that is not guaranteed. And they don’t receive the full amount customer pay either.

Atami is the predominant soapy massage parlor in Ubon Ratchasima. In a city of the size it really stands out even if many local residents may not even know of its existence. There isn’t much coverage of the place that I can find in any language. But that is no fault of Atami or the people who work there. Three-and-half stars.

Female sex tourism is a real phenomenon. It only follows that the practice would exist in Pattaya. Known by many names including “Thailand’s sin city” the seaside town is most famous for its adult entertainment. And that entertainment is no longer confined to men.

As I pointed out in my recent post on sexual services for women and couples in Pattaya, there are several shops open to females in Pattaya. But all of of those places are also staffed by women. Other places where women are frequent customers include bars staffed by men who most would commonly refer to as gigolos.

Although some people seem to think the idea of female tourism is just a fantasy, I can confirm that it does indeed exist. I have been to places where men offer sexual services to women. And I have talked to both the men who do the work and the women who hire them. Today I present some of my findings.

Female sex tourists in Pattaya

Female sex tourists who visit Pattaya may not be as easily identifiable as men who travel to the city mainly for sex. That is not to stereotype either group. All sorts of people all over the world pay for sex at some time or another. In Pattaya it happens countless times every single day of the year.

But we’ve all spotted guys who are obviously out to spend some money on sex. Sometimes they loudly vocalize it themselves. It’s not that uncommon to see a group of guys talking about a past or upcoming conquest at a coffee shop or restaurant in Pattaya. Female sex tourists I’ve found in Pattaya tend to go about things much differently.

There isn’t really a standard for female sex tourism in Pattaya. But many of the women who pay for sex in Pattaya only view it as an incidental part of their time in town. They may go see a show or do some shopping during the day. Then they may call up a friend or two and go check out a boy bar at night. Or they may not. They don’t seem to orient around service providers in that way that so many men do.

With all the talk of turning Pattaya into a family friendly resort over the last few years, people aren’t likely to view women they see around town as clients for sex workers. But some definitely are. The average female sex tourist in Pattaya seems to just be the average tourist who slips into a bar or soapy massage parlor a time or two. Except when they’re not tourists at all. Or at least not international tourists. Because some Thai women also visit adult venues in Pattaya and pay for sexual services too!

Boyztown

Boyztown is an L-shaped alley that juts off of Soi 13/4. It is the oldest of three areas in Pattaya filled with “boy bars”. Most people just refer to these as “gay areas”. But in at least one of the popular Boyztown bars female customers outnumber male customers by a wide margin.

There are only a handful of bars in Boyztown. Most seem to be pretty large though I confess that I have only ever been inside of two places there. And in the first instance I was dragged in by a friend years ago.

More recently I visited by request. And I have to admit that what I found was quite interesting. I don’t have a gay bone in my body and I plan to keep it that way. But I am not homophobic either. Besides that Boyztown is actually very subdued with none of the aggressive antics you find in ladyboy bar areas like Soi 6/1.

Boyz Boyz Boyz

Boyz Boyz Boyz is the largest and most popular bar in Boyztown. It is like a hybrid between a go go bar and a showplace. The entrance is marked by two large statues of golden guys with semi erect penises. Inside a square stage sits against one side of the room. Numerous booth and stool style seats surround the stage on the other three sides.

It may surprise many to know that Boyz Boyz Boyz gets many more female customers than males. In a recent visit even I was shocked to see that women outnumbered men in the audience at a rate of six-to-one. And apparently this is no aberration. I’m told that women are more common in the bar than men.

But who are these ladies? On a recent visit I saw several groups of women. All appeared to be in their twenties or thirties. None were overweight or unattractive. Some were from South Korea. Others were from Vietnam. There were also a couple of Thai ladies inside. A small group of twenty-something year old Russian women who entered the bar at one point must be regulars or big spenders as they were recognized and greeted warmly by most of the staff.

A guy on staff at Boyz Boyz Boyz told me that he is barfined by women almost every night of the week. A waiter with a hairstyle straight out of a Flock of Seagulls video confirmed. The guy in question reportedly has had customers from all over including the countries listed above as well as Cambodia, Japan and France.

I most recently visited the bar at 10 PM with a local lady who knows a guy inside. We found that a show begins at 10:30 every night. By the time it started I had already seen a group of attractive Korean women come in, sit down, and take out a group of guys from the stage. I don’t know where they were headed. But I do know that the barfine at Boyz Boyz Boyz is 1000 Baht ($32 USD) and it includes optional use of a short time room across the street.

The guys usually get 3000 Baht ($97 USD) or more from the ladies who take them out. Though the guy mentioned above did say he prefers Koreans because “they smell good and give me 10,000 Baht” ($324 US). Asked about Chinese women, he said “I get more of them, but they don’t smell good or give a lot of money.” I will probably end up posting the full transcript of my interview with him at some point in the future. I have to admit it was very enlightening.

The shows at Boyztown are basically just choreographed danced routines. Most involve guys in pants or costumes. Though during one number, dancers do sport fake oversized boners under long white towels. At the end of the show one guy pretends to masturbate as a machine of some short shoots water out of his fake dong all over unsuspecting women in the front row. People laugh and scream as waiters come around with a box of tissues for cleanup.

After the show ends the multilingual master of ceremonies gets on the microphone and encourages patrons to “pick who you like” from a few dozen guys standing on stage in their street clothes. Guys join women and a few men who call them down from stage over drinks. After that many head out into the night. I don’t know exactly what they all get up to. But I can take a guess based on my own knowledge and experience. I am sure you can too.

Number 1 Bar is a bar on Sukhumvit Soi 10 in Bangkok. I don’t normally review basic beer bars. But Number 1 Bar stands out from the crowd for a few reasons. One is that it took over the space of another special kind of bar that was reviewed here in the past.

In the first year that this site was online I posted a review of The Lollipop 1. It was one of the many Bangkok blowjob bars open at the time. The sister shop on the other side of Sukhumvit closed up shop around the same time. The Lollipop 1 eventually followed suit as I reported here almost a year ago.

Some readers have left comments here saying that The Lollipop 1 reopened under a new name. So I had to go by to investigate. As it turns out another bar called Number 1 has taken the place of The Lollipop 1. It is similar to the old shop. But is certainly not just the same old place with a new name.

Location and layout

Number 1 Bar is located just steps from the girl friendly Paradiso Suites hotel. It is in a small square shaped alley connected to Sukhumvit Soi 10. It is at most a two minute walk from the main Sukhumvit thoroughfare.

Outside the bar looks a lot like the Lollipop 1 used to. Though it has taken on more of the characteristics of a beer bar. The square bar is there on the left side. It is staffed by two older gals including one who is quite busty. The pool table is still there too. And most of the staff hangs around it.

The right side of the ground floor used to rather empty and cavernous. It has been converted into a regular Thai massage place. The women outside who wear massage uniforms do Thai massage, foot massage and other similar services inside.

The left side of the building has been turned into something resembling a low rent residential apartment. But the rooms upstairs containing beds and bathrooms are used for more than just places for people to sleep at night. They’re basically short time quarters for customers who want to spend private time with any of the bar girls. It’s sort of like a Soi 6 Pattaya bar in that regard.

Staff, service and prices

There about eight women working the combined massage shop and bar most nights. As stated above two are usually behind the bar. The others are younger and more attractive. Most are in their twenties and from various parts of the Isaan region. One or two are quite pretty. Others would probably be described as average by most men.

The gals at the bar are up for playing pool, drinking and listening to the music that plays at a reasonable level. So it is like any other beer bar. But the massage girls also do massages. And the others all seem open to going to the short time rooms with customers. So it is not just a regular bar after all.

Nor is the place a BJ bar like the old Lollipop was. In fact some of the gals aren’t even willing to do any kind of lip service at all even though they do full service for the right price. Speaking of that oil massages are 500 Baht ($16 USD) over in the massage parlor side. The bar fine for the other side of the building is 600 Baht ($20 USD). And the ladies who go to those rooms expect a tip of as much as 2000 Baht ($65 USD) for their time. These rates are similar to those in the nearby go go bars. So they are somewhat high considering the venue.

Number 1 Bar is definitely not the number one bar in Bangkok. But it is not the worst bar in the city either. With rooms on standby it is at least a bit more unique than a lot of other open air beer bars. With that in mind I give the place two stars. If the rates were a bit lower I might have rated it a bit higher.

In the earliest days of this site I put together an about page that explained what I was setting out to do. It might not have been the clearest document ever written. But it did more or less explain my goal in starting to publish my writings online.
